Texans are guaranteed 2nd place now!

Texans34Life

I BLEED TEXANS!
With Collins retiring, I highly doubt rookie Locker or Rusty Smith will help that Titans offense this upcoming season and especially against us. :hurrah:

I doubt the Jags are passing us up, so we at least have 2nd place (just don't f' it up Kubiak).

This division is for the taking.....just have to pass up Manning and his crew!

Even Kuharsky says Collins' retirement isn't good for the Titans:

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/25164/collins-retirement-not-good-for-titans

Kerry Collins always hovered. In the worst-case scenario, the Titans surely expected they could get him back to man the fort while Jake Locker took a crash course in NFL quarterbacking.

Who knows what the worst-case scenario is now, after Collins announced his retirement.

Matt Hasselbeck's value just went up. If the Titans don’t land him, who are the possibilities?

The list isn’t a good one. It’s headlined by Marc Bulger, Trent Edwards, Matt Leinart and Matt Moore.

Locker needs a full training camp to have a chance to be effective if he’s the team’s best option come its opener.

None of the scenarios beyond Hasselbeck look very good, and he could have much better options.

Against us, I'll allow it since it's a tradition against Houston teams. But I'll take the odds of those 2 playing against the rest of the league.

nothing is guaranteed

Remember that @tenn game last year happend its like Collins tore us up its like our team gave up during that game

When both locker and gabbert look like HOFers against us, I'm kicking your ass.

LOL!

I understand the OP's point overall, that the titans will suck this year, but Collins didn't make them a better team. Wonderlic had a much better winning percentage than Collins did behind center. Without going back to look at the stats I'd guess the titans went with the running game more with Wonderlic than they did with Collins. No idea as to why though.

Heck, as much as I dislike Wonderlic since he's been in the league I'd rather Collins be starting. Revenge against Houston? Who knows, but Wonderlic had our number.

That was last year. And this upcoming year, no Collins. So hopefully Wade has fixed our squad well enough to defeat either Locker or good ole' Rusty.

How could anyone doubt the Jags when Del Rio has gone beyond proven that he's a better HC that Kubiak and can lead his team further? The Jags have never had a great team, but they have proven that they could over achieve with some sub par teams. I don't get this attitude that the Texans are a better franchise when clearly they haven't been. Sure we may look better on paper, but coaching has always been better over there.

You really think the Jags can beat us? I know I'm putting faith in Wade, but at least I think he can clean up the secondary to give us a fighting chance against them.

We are Texans fans, conditioned to know that they will suck until proven otherwise...and still waiting for that proof, btw. :hmmm:

Im pretty sure Tebow's Broncos smoked our asses in Denver. Facing a rookie QB doesnt mean we will win.

Im pretty sure Tebow's Broncos smoked our asses in Denver. Facing a rookie QB doesnt mean we will win.

yep. The Texans have never been in a position where they can afford to look past any opponent, even those with rookie QBs.

I've watched backup QBs do more damage to the Texans than starters.

Fitzpatrick of the Bills, but he was playing as the Rams' THIRD string QB a few years ago and he zapped us real good when he had to come in for an injured Marc Bulger. Remember THAT ****? #furious.

Collins was an easy guy to beat, IMO. Much easier than Radio. Radio would just pump fake and run around the edge and burn us for 15 yards a pop. And then there's his Option Run play with Chris Johnson that our Texans couldn't stop a few years back on MNF. #bewildered

Rusty Smith looked OK as the season wore on for him. And Jake Locker might just surprise people, too. And if they get Kevin Kolb (pure speculation by one poster, but possible) then i don't think the Titans are an easy W for us.

Jags? Until MJD is gone, I can't pencil them as a W for us. Plus, Jack Del Rio has just enough grit to trick Kubiak a few times every meeting between us, and our guy--Kubiak--has just enough Aw Shucks! moments to make the Jags a difficult matchup every time. Jack Del Rio instills in his team that they must HATE and DESTROY their opponents. Gary? LOL.

I don't know if I've been conditioned then.......

I'm always optimistic about this team.. but I don't underestimate the Titans or the Jags either.

Collins retired..... big deal. Now watch them bring Kolb in, or at least someone they can consider a veteran QB once FA starts. There's no way they'll go into the season with Locker & Rusty as the only QBs on their roster.

Heck they may even keep Vince... who knows.

I don't see how "probably getting second place" is worth get excited over, nor is it news worthy.

No matter who plays QB for the Tacks, opposing Ds will be stacking the box until it is proven that their QB, whoever that may be, can get that ball out. A new QB with who knows what offensive scheme they plan to run (even if the same as last year), is unlikely to be adequately prepared to play in a synced fashion once this lockout is lifted..........just not enough time for too many facets to be worked out and to come together any time soon......................Tick Tack, Tick Tack, Tick Tack...............

hey, this is looking pretty good. We can go 8-8 and still be in second place in the division. hahahahahaha

Just might describe our D also.

But the pundits have always proclaimed that playing D is more instinctive.

:coffee:

Kevin Kolb to the Titans. You heard it here first.

No way. They just drafted Locker with their first rounder this year. They would have to give up their 1st rounder next year plus other picks. Not even Bud is dumb enough to spend first round picks 2 years in a row on QBs.

Hasselbeck, maybe (in fact, this would be my prediction). Perhaps even Matt Leinart, but the Titans did not use the #8 overall pick on Jake Locker only to turn around and trade for Kevin Kolb 3-4 months later.

Texans Defense allowed almost any QB to become a super star - It's that bad :brickwall:

I would hope that the defense this year won't give up a score in the last 50 seconds of the game

Tex, you beat me to the punch yet again. I was going to post almost the same thing. As I've said before: Del Rio is one of the most underrated coaches in the NFL. The man can coach. Even with very little talent.

And, he's been bluntly, and publicly put on notice by the owner of the Jags: Playoffs, or else. So his back will be against the wall. Del Rio is a street fighter and will come out swinging HARD.

Del Rio, if he gets fired, is going to make one HELL of a good d-coord for somebody. Dude is vile. And isn't afraid to be known for it.

Then he'll use his stardom from building up somebody's defense to catapult him right back into a HC job somewhere.

How is it that Del Rio gets a pass on the talent that has been acquired in Jacksonville

But Kubiak gets drug over a broken glass for the talent in Houston?

I don't get what you're asking.

I think kubiak has had more resources than del rio has.

I don't think the Jags have done all that poorly.

Garrard kicks our ass twice-per-year and yet other teams find a way to shut him down and make him look silly. MJD beats us over the head twice-per-year by grinding out clock-killing runs at just the right spots.

Del Rio is a capitalist. He loves to capitalize off of the other team's inability to focus and play hard for four quarters. We found the ability to beat Del Rio in the last damn game, which amazingly also dropped us several spots in the draft. It's incredible how much we're snake-bitten by the other three AFC South teams.

They're adding better WRs now. No more experiments like Matt Jones. They've added some real talent on the d-line, too.

Gary gets drug over the coals for being Gary. He needs no comparison to any other coach out there. We damn sure were not playing for a playoff berth in the last reg season game like the Jags were.

Del Rio has taken his team to the playoffs and almost did it again. That's rare air when you think about the long-term dominance of the Colts. It means Del Rio has found a way, twice, to sneak into the playoffs. Our guy can only DREAM to have two such shots like Del Rio has had.

But our guys are the best. I forgot. Slaton is better than he was in 2008. Kubiak gets unfairly judged. It's one social injustice after another, I suppose. One day, we'll get a double rainbow and we'll forget these hardships.

I don't get what you're asking.

I know, right?

The only indictment on Del Rio is that he let the Texans keep him out of the playoffs. That had to suck.

Whooo Hoooo!!!!!

2nd place

Come on people lets set our goals a whole lot higher than this. I know some fans (Seems like most fans) are happy going to the games experiencing the game day feeling and drinking alot of alcohol. (This is required after watching a decade of Texans football. (Using TO's wrong/Playing 2 qtrs of football/outsmarting the other team by trying to pass against a team that you set a franchise record running against in week 1 etc....)

But imagine a SB trophy in Houston and how much it would help this cities morale.

You're not paying attention. It means we're on the right track.

hey, this is looking pretty good. We can go 8-8 and still be in second place in the division. hahahahahaha

Re-read what you just wrote.

Del Rio doesn't get a pass on his piss-poor drafts. But he DOES get a hell of a lot of credit for USING THOSE PISS POOR DRAFTS to actually COACH those players up. Dude can COACH.

Kubiak SHOULD be raked over broken glass BECAUSE he has managed to put together one of the most talented teams in all of sports...yet has done nothing with it.

Get it?

GP, that is exactly what's going to happen. Word for word, you nailed it: He won't be able to get a head coaching job immediately because he'll be dealing with the fallout from getting fired in Jacksonville.

But, he will turn someone's defense into a freaking MONSTER, then will eventually get another head coaching job down the line. Dude can coach his leather-jacket-wearing-ass off.

Unless we get the wildcard, all second place gets you is a worse draft pick, and the next season you play the Steelers/Ravens and the Chargers/Chiefs instead of the Browns/Bengals and Raiders/Broncos. Might switch Raiders for Chiefs but you get the picture. Being close only makes it harder to actually get there.

Really? so everyone getting weaker is our "plan"?

Honestly, I would rather our division get stronger and we dominate than get weaker and slide through.

I would take an appearance however it comes....... but just as I said about voting in a black pres. (before Obama got in there) Wouldn't it be better to get a GOOD black president in there than just some schmuck that happens to be black?

Same thing, Id rather our team be GOOD and get there then be eliminated looking the same as they do (again, I love my Texans, Ill take it how we get it but...... I would rather have a glimmer of hope they could go all the way... I couldn't have that hope above just love for my team, if they got there simply because they suck LESS.)

Sure by this calculation they would still have to beat the colts for number one... but PM is not a God and in most cases I think they sit at number 1 ONLY because they suck less.... sure it would be nice to stay at #1 but its less of a victory when it is gained only because all 4 teams cant finish tied at 4th.

Also, I agree, nothing is guarantied, even against a rookie with this team. I have had that mindset before.....:smiliepalm:..... never again.

I used to think the same way. But 5 years After Kubiak... You've got to think something else is the problem, it can't be GK.

Seriously though, The Packers played a 0.488 schedule in 2010. Bears, Lions, & Vikings.....

The NFL season is too short. If you're battling & digging out wins every week, you're going home after the first week of the play-offs, when you are playing a really good team (unless it's the AFC West Champion).

The teams that get to work on their game, live practice every Sunday, those are the ones who can execute their game plans in the play-offs.

Patriots have been beating on the Jets, Dolphins, & Bills for years. It's only recently that the Jets were even considered decent (9-7 in 2008, 9-7 in 2009... )

The Colts have been moping the floor with the Titans, Texans & Jaguars.....

The Steelers have been scrimmaging the Browns, & Bengals.... every now & then being challenged by the offensively challenged Ravens.
