The Texans made the wrong move. The mood of the team, reflects the Head Coach. Although mos of the blame will go to Palmer, when have you ever seen a Palmer offense be "Run Oriented'??? Simply, the O-coordinator calls the plays, but the Head Coach develops his philosophy to winning. Capers Offense has historically been a drag. Last season, when Dominck Davis (no offense to Davis, love him!!) was on the shelf, the Offense took off! This was once the Texans had no choice to air it out, ending up in better numbers for Carr, Johnson, and a host of WR's, and more wins. Upon Dom's return, more rushing yards, but the airgame finally touched ground! Hmmm? That's Caper's philosophy, not Palmers. If you look at our personel, similar to the Eagles. Big, strong T.O.-type wr in Johnson, westbrook-type back in Davis, and a supporting cast that couldn't start anywhere else in the league. What do the Eagles do............Air it out. Westbrook never runs up the middle. T.O. never takes quick pitch out catches. Wrong guy got fired! Now really watch this offense Stink!!!!

I was in the stands, talking back to a Pittsburg fan gloating about their first score and wanted to know what we were going to do about it. Here was the dialog;pittbull said:
ME on our first possession, first down: "They are going to run left on the first play, demonstrating our vaunted zone blocking...." (and we did for about 3 yards!)
Pittsburg Fan: "What are you guys going to do now... same thing to the right?
ME : "Oh no, we are TOO CLEVER for you Yankees... our brilliant Coach Palmer is going to run the exact SAME PLAY to the same side, knowing that you would think that..." (and we did, for no gain)
Pittsburg Fan: "Well that didn't work, it is 3rd and 7, so what are you guys going to do now... run a screen to the right side?
ME : "Oh no, we are TOO CLEVER for you Yankees because we got you right were we want you. No, instead our brilliant Coach Palmer is going to run PLAY action to the same side as the first two plays (because we have established the RUN) and then Carr is going to bootleg right and dump off to DD or the tight end for a first down!!! However, if we come out in shotgun formation, Carr is going to drop back and just panic" (and we did)
The right guy got FIRED for two reasons;
a) even a guy like me that only played high school football could call what plays we were going to run...
b) if you Fire Capers then you would have promoted Palmer to HEAD COACH???
The right guy got fired... and if we still suck the NEXT "right guy" will be fired. And if we still suck, it won't matter because the only way there will be fan in the stands by the end of the season is to lower the price of beer like the used to do in the Superdome with the Aints in the bag days.
Remember... the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result. Palmer was clearly insane!

There is no reason why andre johnson should not be getting the ball 10 to 15 times a game. I'm glad he's gone. Maybe Capers will be next because he is totally ineffective. Along with our offensive line that could possibly be the worst in NFL history. I'm glad to see this organization wake up and make the moves they need to make to be a winner. Palmer is just one of many changes that need to be made.

This is the most entertaining thread I have read all year!
Thank you, to all of you, who have posted comments that are not only very honest and objective, but have also contained great humor.
When I saw the "Keep Chris Palmer!!!" thread title, I laughed out loud for several seconds. After three years of the "Fire Chris Palmer!!!" thread titles, it was refreshing to see that someone had the wisdom to instinctively create the first of what I hope will be many "Keep Chris Palmer!!!" thread titles.
This is awesome.
And to be honest, I don't know what in the heck is going on. I don't know if it's Palmer or if it's Capers, or what. It is so confusing right now because it looks like Palmer did sort of OK last year. He wasn't brilliant or anything, don't get me wrong. And then this year, all of a sudden, it's just a big train wreck and it's Palmer's fault? The playcalling looked like two coaches were taking turns calling plays: I get to call a three TE set and run the ball for one yard. Ok, now I get to spread the field with four WRs and pass the ball. Ok, now I get to put the jumbo package in there and run the ball. Ok, now I get to put two WRs and two RBs in and do a cool play-action pass.
Does anybody else see that? It just looked like two coaches trying to alternate playcalling and prove that each one was right or something.
Time will tell. If Capers really is the main culprit, Inspector McNair will sniff him out soon enough. 7 or 8 losses down the road, nonetheless...

The training camp before last, the Chronicle had an article stating that Dre was spending so much time in front of the football gun (or cannon or whatever it's called) his hands were sore even after he got home from practices.
He had a great year after that camp; he didn't have near the drops. This year he's dropping them again.
Dre is a proven hard worker, but I think his dissatisfaction with the system (as he stated in the Chronicle) may have affected his attitude. He may also have been affected by the work ethic of many of his teammates.
I think this is an illustration of how bad results, a system players don't buy into, poor coaching, and/or no player leadership can combine to be a cancer to a football team.

I don't know if it is a coaching thing, but either he is not seeing his receivers or his perception of what is open needs to be adjusted because they aren't as locked down as he seems to think they are. Step back around and look around the league and you will see guys making accurate throws into almost perfect coverage. Sometimes to make plays that is what the QB has to do.
No he doesn't suck, but like every other Texan right now, he better not be saying it isn't on his back because they all need to improve right now.

They should keep sandbagging until we've dropped, Capers and Casserly too they are the Ambiguously BAD duo.
Casserly is as much to blame as Palmer in my mind, probably more. And Capers sure hasn't done anything to ever get my vote.
