Cribs: Locked Out Edition (David Anderson)

We really need to ship Kubiaks slow little buddy to another team and get us a Bro who can seperate from the DB. Besides, DAs "comic routine" is starting to really drag.

What with all the hate for D.A.? I've always liked the guy. Granted he's small, but the dude is tough as hell and makes some clutch receptions over the middle when needed. He may not get a lot of playing time, but how much of that is his fault? He's a gamer and has heart. That goes a long ways with me.

Haha that was great. David Anderson. A fan favorite doing what he does best. Making light of the situation and getting some laughs!

Yep. It's not as if we're counting on him to be our 2nd or 3rd wide receiver. He's a special teams guy and occasionally gets on the field on offense. He's good at the role he plays.

I thought NFL players were overpaid and should be able to do just fine during a lockout. I mean, that Aerobed was pretty sweet, but he still had a crappy couch. I mean, couldn't he at least afford a fold-out couch or something? Maybe he wasted on his money on hookers and blow .....

i've always liked him too. i just think he needs a real ****ing camera. and not something that makes a video look like it was recorded on a goddamn polaroid.

and the video would have been funnier if they replaced all the audio with a four and a half minute fart sound. not because dave wasn't funny, but because farts are hilarious.

But it's a couch, that doubles, as a couch. :kitten:

Agreed.

With the game on the line, I trust him to make the catch far more than I do JJ.

DIs guy has future in Houston Sports radio

Sadly no future in da NFL : I

umm... Most, if not all, of your posts make me want to :choke:

It's not just that I disagree, but also the writing style if you can call it that. I have a feeling you may be the source of "Where do babby come from?" and regularly speak out in the real world like a walking "I can has cheezburger" post.

Here's the thing about DA. He's one of the least physically gifted guys in the league. He makes the absolute most of his abilities and then gets a little more than he should out of them by being money every time the ball is thrown his direction. He runs great routes and he takes the big hit, gets small and gets the 5-7 yards when you need 4.9-6.9 yards. Would I want him as my feature receiver? Of course not. After AD/KW/OD, is there another guy you trust to catch the ball in traffic with someone hunting for his head?

I seriously don't know how you can root against the guy, or even say anything negative. Truth be told, he's probably not much more naturally talented than some of the people on this board, he just worked a hell of a lot harder than any of us and that's why he's in the league.

Mike

Anderson has no value on special teams. Doesn't make big plays. And he's not that funny. How does he remain on the team?

I see all of the hate Jacoby gets, and he's made 10X the plays Anderson has. I don't get it.

Couldn't agree more. Even when Studdard was still on the team, perhaps the most blatant example of Kubiak cronyism ?

I agree and disagree.

Anderson has returned punts. He doesn't pick up big yardage often but he has sure hands and is pretty reliable. Special teams wise and receiving wise.

I agree that he's not funny.

5 career returns for 26 total yards and one muff. That's "reliable"? I'm thinking "incompetent" is a more apt adjective.

In 61 career games, Anderson has 3 TDs. Again, no value on special teams as returner or on coverage teams. Why is Anderson on this team? Or in the league, for that matter?

The Texans matched the three-year, $4.5 million offer sheet receiver David Anderson got from the Denver Broncos last week.
If the Texans had not matched the offer, they would have received a seventh-round pick for Anderson, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2006 draft out of Colorado State.

The Texans had an opportunity to in effect move DA a couple years ago and recover their initial investment, however Kubiak decided against it ?

Fair catches don't count as returns so in actuality he has fielded more than 5 punts. He has good hands.

Also, he is reliable in the sense that he shows up to practice, doesn't cause trouble, knows the plays, makes some good catches when called upon.

He's a guy you can put on the field and he isn't going to embarrass you.

But besides that your comparing his level of scrutiny to jacoby is absurd. According to kubiak jacoby is 2b. For the most part da has been a fifth receiver for us. While you're at it why not try to protect the Brian Cushing bashing and explain how Stanford Keglar is who folks should complain about.

DA is not irreplaceable and he's not a catch and run guy, but he has made some good catches for us when called upon. Not sure what more you want out of the fifth receiver.

Show up to practice and know the plays? That's Anderson's strong points? That makes him worth of a NFL roster?

Anderson gets all kinds of love. Look at how many threads he has. Your mentioning Keglar is the first this year. Keglar is probably hanging on to a roster spot by his fingernails. Anderson is probably locked in (for the 6th season) because he's a Kubiak guy.

A receiver on the back end of the roster should help on special teams. As a returner, or gunner, or something. Anderson does none of those things. He's a legacy on this team, and his legacy is the team jokester.

This is really for all the people who say we shouldn't be looking to upgrade the offense.

Our WR corps should be good enough and deep enough and talented enough so that this guy doesn't make the team.

I like him. He's a great story. He's a hard worker. But the fact that he's on the team is something of an indictment, I think.

David Anderson is a great 3rd down reciever and is glue hands when Schaub throws to him, Jacoby has muffed so many punts I amazed he is still on the team

See what I mean?

Sad isn't it.

JT, you and I have a different definition of the word great.

BTW, I would get rid of both JJ and DA and sign a true #2 WR with some of the $$$$ saved. Can you say yes to a 3rd rder for Steve Smith. LOL

shows up to practice as in he's never injured, I've never heard of him missing team planes. From all accounts I've heard that he shows up and works hard.

And I'm not saying that Anderson should be on the team. All I'm saying is that he hasn't been as critical to our success as 2nd round pick jacoby jones.

As far as him doing things on special teams, he has fielded punts. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of teams that don't have their fourth and fifth receiver playing on special teams. Even if you replace him there is no guarantee that player would be a special teams guy.

All I'm saying is that he hasn't been as critical to our success as 2nd round pick jacoby jones.
Huh? So because Jacoby has had a more important role, he deserves more scrutiny and negativity? Despite the fact that Anderson made twice the amount ($1.5 mil to $750K) as Jones? It's comical that Anderson gets props and Jones gets jeers.

Sigh.

Jacoby was a second round pick. Da was picked in the seventh. You want to talk about money. . .who has made more over the time they've both been here. When jacoby is re-signed you don't think he'll get more than Anderson.

You are smarter than that. You know good and well that a fifth receiver picked in the seventh round is not going to receive even close to the level of scrutiny that a second round receiver that is supposedly part of the starting lineup.

Are you serious with this?

Saying Anderson sucks is one thing, but saying he should receive the sane level or more scrutiny than jacoby is absurd.

Jones was selected in the 3rd round of the 2007 draft. Anderson was selected in the 7th round of the 2006 draft. Jones may very well make more $$$ in 2011 than Anderson. Anderson may be making his cash on the minor league comedy circuit. What's a fact is that Anderson made more money than Jones in 2010. And over his career.

Sigh.

A sign your offense is pretty good:

Fans bicker over backup swing tackles and 4th/5th WRs. Sure nice not having to debate starting tackles and QBs.

Jacoby Jones hasn't had near the bad drops or goof-up moments that he's made out to have had. He's gotten a bad rap around here.

I've shown stats on here in the past, from NFL.com's player stats pages, that shows Jacoby Jones ran circles around David Anderson in almost every category. And in one maybe two categories, they're almost even.

When it comes to big play capabilities, Jacoby is a better option than Anderson. When Anderson catches the ball, he has something like .5 YAC (exaggerating for effect). He just gets nailed pretty quick after having caught the ball. Jacoby, when he catches the ball, is seemingly always in a dead sprint and isn't stopping--He's catching the ball in stride and continuing moving downfield.

I won't be hacked off if Jacoby Jones is gone. We're bigger than Jacoby Jones, in terms of being able to replace him with someone like Dorin Dickerson. But if we stack up Jacoby and David side-by-side and you have to choose which guy to throw to, to make a play or possibly a TD, I'm choosing Jacoby Jones. He can be electric.

DA only has 81 catches in 61 games. 50 of them for first downs. That and the fact that he does what the coaches ask of him is why he's still on the team. You can make the argument that he shouldn't be on the team, I guess, but I seriously doubt another 7th round pick will get as many chances or make as much of that opportunity than DA has. It happens, but not regularly. Rod Smith and Marques Colston don't just pop up in the 7th round for every team, every year. Most times, they bust. Sometimes you get lucky and end up with a guy like DA. When you hit the really long odds, you get a Rod Smith or Colston.

When you put them side by side and want a big play, yes. When you want that precise route run to the sticks and sure hands for the first down, you take DA. JJ's the guy that makes the spectacular happen and muffs the routine. DA's the guy that masters the routine to the point of boredom and can't do anything spectacular.

I've seen passes bounce off David's hands too.

I'd rather take the chance on Jacoby for one pass that we need a big play out of, rather than expecting David Anderson to get a 3rd and 15 or even a TD when we need one.

I agree with your last two sentences. One guy's strength is the other guy's kryptonite and vice-versa. I just know I've celebrated a lot more Jacoby Jones touchdowns than I have David Anderson touchdowns. And points wins games, not just being a clutch guy on a 3rd down play. I've also seen Jacoby slide down belly-first onto the ground and scoop up a poorly thrown, low pass from Matt for a huge 3rd down conversion, too.

If I have to pick, I pick Jacoby.

Anderson is a role player who runs the underneath route. Comparing him to Jacoby is a bit apples-to-oranges.

I remember Zierlein writing an article last year about how Anderson's route helped to open up Andre. I searched for it today, but couldn't find it.

I have noticed though that Anderson is not utilized as much by Dennison as he was by Kyle Shanahan. That could be Dennison's preference, or the fact that we actually have a running game now.

That's a great tactic. Ignoring the major point made.

Your initial assertion that Anderson should receive more criticism than jacoby is crazy. Period. The end.

Defenders are staying shallow, to watch out for Arian Foster, and that means there's not that little 5-yard route for DA anymore. IIRC, he got pounded a couple of times last season.

I think he's easily an odd man out, but people love his attitude and his grit. I do, too, but sometimes teams just outgrow guys. My .02....

I would agree except da has never been an integral part if the offense. I dont think the emergence if foster has anything to do with David anderson's lack of success.

I also don't think that it's going to be easy to get him off the team. He doesn't wow you, but he has made some good catches for us. If it's fourth down and I have to have a completion or it's game over I'm rolling with da over dorin Dickerson or whatever other end of the bench wr the texans may have on their roster.
