Will Pendry fare any better?

Keldar

Waterboy
From what I've read so far, he's not exactly Mr. Imaginative or Johnny Excitement as far as Offensive Coordination is concerned.

He hasn't worked any magic on the scabs in the O-line yet.

Thoughts????

I'm thinking that we go to Cinncinati and loose by 25. Capers and the rest of the staff is fired and we begin the re-rebuiding process.

Pendry was fired by Capers after the 1997 season at Carolina. Although, it was never confirmed, there was speculation that Panthers owner Jerry Richardson made Capers fire Pendry, who was under fire because his offense was too conservative and unimaginative

awesome

He's being promoted because he's conservative like Capers. Don't expect fireworks.

Cappers & Pendry are now infused and a package deal. any failure going forward & both will be held accountable, satisfactory results obtained via firing or retention :)

Will he do better? I think so, it's hard not to do better than 14 points in two weeks. I think he is going to have a really basic, ball control, simple route running, smash mouth offense. He has no choice. He can't put together a complex offense in the next two weeks. Nobody could.

If he can simplify things he may have a shot. The team needs to get back to the basics. Capers and Pendry are going to have a lot of sleepless nights as they toss out the old playbook and put together a new one. I never expect us to go more than 3 wide and routinely run two to three tight ends.

When he was in Buffalo his Offense was 6th and 11th his two years there.
Both years made playoffs.

Norv Turner had great offenses in Dallas. He's still trying to recapture some of that magic. It's hard to predict a coach's performance from different teams and years. Admittedly, there isn't much else to look at.

Yeah, but Capers wasn't the head coach there? :hmmm:

I don't care if we play "conservative" or "air it out" as long as we move the ball. Palmer was the wrong person for Capers philosophy. The two didn't need to work together. Having Palmer handle a run oriented conservative offense would be like using Tony Gonzalez as primarily a blocking TE. It just isn't the right fit.

I don't want to see Palmer as our next head coach, so I am happy with this firing. If this move doesn't work, Capers will be gone and we can start a new regime next year or the year after that.

Agreed on both. Palmer and Capers were oil and water. Pendry and Capers are peanut butter and jelly. If you can swallow it, it's effective. If Pendry plays too conservative then both we will see a new coaching staff next season. This is all on Capers now. It's been his defense and now it's his offense. If we fail (and unfortunately I believe we will) then Capers will have nobody to blame but himself.

I'm preparing myself for a new 4-5 year plan beginning this offseason.

I hate to say it but you might be right, I just don't want it to happen but I can see it coming. I still can't get over us having 6 TE's on the active roster, we could have at least held on to miller.

Bruener, Murphy, Rivers. Who else?

With the lack of harmony between Capers and Palmer being one of the Texans MANY problems, I would think that replacing Palmer with Pendry would make things better.

How much better, I don't know. We're about to find out.

I will say, though, that I'm not looking forward to our new offense. I'm a child of the run-and-shoot, and so LESS finesse is not what I'm looking for.

So the guy that coaches one of the worst offensive lines in the league is now in charge of your whole offense?

I used to really hate your team but now kinda feel sorry for you guys. I mean our offense isn't exactly potent either but at least there's a little light at the end of the tunnel, yesterdays game notwithstanding.

The offense will be the same cause Pendry will only be able to do what Capers wants him to and that is to run the ball. Unless Capers get smart and tries to save his job by opening the offense, nothing will change.

I dont think it is a RE - building process. It would still just be building, to re-build would mean you would have to be built in the past, and without a winning record on the books, I dont think that fits this team. Cincy it hot right now, the only way to get back going is with a W at this point. Before the season started we hated having the bye in week 3, right now its the best thing for the team. I still have hope, what I lack is confidence in the team and coaching.

It will be as better as the 99 Carolina Panthers...oh wait nvm :brickwall

...my thoughts exactly!!!

When Don Criqui NFL Genius can spot when you going to pass and when you run you know your offense SUCKS.

1 thing to remember they accused Jimmy Johnson of having a vanilla offense and having no imagination on offense in Dallas BUT they won games and moved down field with consistency.....imagination shamgination, I want a consistent ofense that makes use of the players we have a QB with a great arm, a solid RB and an amazing WR who can make a difference IF he gets the ball

Was wondering how long before Charley said hey we could get same offense from "Offense for Dummies" book :texans:
