When do you think the regular season will start?

It wouldn't bother me to get my dough back for those dogturd practice games but I really don't want to miss any regular season games.
 
Players get paid game checks, so I doubt we'll be missing any regular season games. They are talking big now, but when missing a ridiculously large paycheck looks like a reality, I bet a deal gets done. IMO, most NFL players are far, far from rocket scientists. They tend to live far beyond their means (as hard as that is for us to fathom) and they'll need the money.
 
I don't think we'll miss any regular season games. I think we'll miss the first preseason game at most.

From a barganing standpoint everything changes once the season starts. Owner's will demand and get anything they want once the players lose checks and disassemble themselves.

The end wont be near until you hear a quote from a "name player" that is anti-union / pro owner. We will miss at least 1-2 weeks.

I honestly don't believe we'll have football this year.
The players and the union were preparing for this for 2 years since the owners opted out.
IMO, a lot rides on whether the court forces the owners to set aside a good chunk of the TV money if there is no season. I believe the courts will do that and that puts the owners in a bind. If the courts let the owners keep all that money, the players will cave.

I honestly don't believe the majority of players heeded the warnings to watch their finances and prepare for this. I also hope and pray that both sides will understand the "irreperable harm" that will be done to both sides if they do lose an entire season over this. Look how bad it hurt the MLB and for how long. Some say MLB still hasn't fully recovered and I know quite a few people that refuse to watch baseball because of the strikes. No pun intended.

Now that it is in the courts, I don't see a CBA getting done.

There's the Lockout Injunction now in the 8th court of appeals
The TV network litigation with Judge Doty in MN. If it goes the players way (likely) then expect more appeals by the owners
The Anitrust triple damages issue
The National Labor Relations Board Investigation.

Except the players weren't saving money for it. There have been tons of reports of players taking out loans to pay off expenses in this interim. If they need loans now, when they normally would not be paid, they certainly don't have any real savings to speak. If they are taking out loans now, they certainly don't have money for September.

The Peyton Mannings of the world don't have an issue. It is the mid level guys who are living WAY above their means who are in dire straits. It all comes down to financial planning. MC Hammer once made $30 million and went broke the next year.

I bet you dollars to donuts, the owners are better financial planners than the players.
 
I suppose it has a lot to do with how much "talking" they actually do starting next week. They ***** and whine about wanting to get it done by negotiating, but only have these stupid 1-2 day sessions. It's hyprocritical and totally ridiculous that it has unfolded like it has. I'm going to say something my Mom would say....they should both be ashamed of themselves.

Very little to no progress has been made, so no predictions from me. But it doesn't look good
 
I would not mind missing the first two preseason games at home. That way I can get my money back since they don't even play the starters much at all those games.
They can play the last 2 preseason games on the road and be ready for the season opener against the Colts at Reliant.
 
I'd almost guarantee we won't play week 1. The schedule is set in a way that all the teams that play each other in week one share the same bye-week, so that game will be moved to the bye-week. And no one really cares about the pre-season, so really we're looking at week 2 as the earliest start date.

I think that game will be missed, since the week one game is moved, it will be the first game that determines "who blinks first".

No one will blink, and we move to Game 3. This will be the earliest we will start the season.:scarygirl:
 
1. 8th Circuit screws over the Judge Nelson ruling, making the owners moan with ecstasy and squeal with sheer delight. This means the lockout stays in effect. Which means IF the owners have enough money set aside, and IF the other court rules they can keep all or most of it, then the players are screwed which means...

2. The players have to decide if they want to sit out the season or sign a deal they don't want to sign. Which means...

3. They'll either (a) sign it, but with intentions to fight a new fight later on down the road or (b) try to sit out, but then see most players revolt and demand that they sign a deal so they can get paid once again. In either case, a deal will get signed IMO.

4. This means they will sign the deal as close to the deadline as they can, which means...

5. No camp, no preseason games, and pretty much the first FOUR regulars season games looking like total crap as they all try to get in sync with rookies, new coaching staffs, etc. This means the teams with the least amount of turnover from 2010 to 2011 might have a better chance than those who are trying new schemes, new players at key positions (QB), etc.

The Texans won't suffer on defense because we were already pretty freaking bad last year as it stands...which means we got no place to go but UP. Our offense is fully assembled and ready to go.

We'll have football, but not until the midnight hour approaches.

In theory I understand, but still, if they avoid some of the tough games, they wont prove anything even if they make it to the playoffs (take most of the seasons under Kubiak, - a few losses and we look like contenders, in the W/L column at least)

I would rather have our first playoff appearance not be marred with an asterisk of a shorter season.

I would guess 2 or 3 missed preseasons, which will still be hell, Madden barely scratches the itch for offseason, let alone when my internal clock knows I should be watching the games.
 
IF the Players association has a fund for the financially incompetent, and can tide them through the "no check" times, the players may be able to keep their united front. If not the owners win and the players knuckle under again. This is what the owners expect, and are waiting to happen.

The owners got the t.v. companies to underwrite their expenses, but how do the players have any right to this money if they haven't played games to earn it?

yep. This is my perspective, as well. If the players get a cut of that tv money, then they can bunker down like the owners and there is a real threat to the 2011 season.

In a players v. owners discussion, I tend to lean a little toward players.

However, in a players v. owners v. fans discussion, where fans represent the 2011 season, then I lean 100% toward fans. Screw the players and owners both if they cancel any regular season games.

If this happens i will be DONE with the NFL. i work 90 hours a week and still live pay check to pay check, if we miss 2011 i hope that the NFL disappears and these guys come back down to earth quick and realize they were getting paid A LOT to play a damn game, nothing more.

I'm beginning to care less and less. I'm hopeful something will get done, but as others have pointed out, if the players get screwed and sign something anyway, all that means is we'll be going through this again in a few years.
 
I think as long as owners are offering them deals that aren't really negotiable then it will remained locked. While some people point to a few players here and there being in financial trouble (like those stories don't come out every year) my guess is that most of the players are going to be okay with sitting out for much of the year if they feel that the deal is a screw job.

With absolutely none of the litigation settled yet (And no particularly close end in site legally) we are looking at a long nasty battle. Sucks.

I hear ya, Norg--but I don't wanna miss anybody. If we're going to the playoffs before I die, I want to see it earned and beyond question.
