UFL draft and free agency

First pick is Texas A&M QB Jerrod Johnson by the Hartford Colonials.

Second is Florida CB Reynaldo Hill by the Omaha Nighthawks.

Third is Fresno State QB Ryan Colburn by the Sacramento Mountain Lions.

Fourth is Utah DE Martail Burnett by the Virgina Destroyers.

Fifth is Furman OT Joel Bell by the Las Vegas Locos.

This concludes the first round (of 10) of the very first UFL draft :D. Have only heard of about 3 of the above five players, pretty sure the next 9 rounds will be full of virtual unknowns...but it will definitely be interesting to see if these 5 UFL teams are able to find any gems.

NFL teams will probably watching UFL players to see if they have any talent to offer their rosters.

Definitely, will be interesting to see what happens with Mark Herzlich, he just got drafted by the Omaha Nighthawks. I remember someone being really high on him in this forum, but he had bone cancer and his value plummeted.

I watched this video on him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ihz42IPSvJw I hope he shows all the teams that passed on him what a big mistake it was skipping him, and hell, if he can ever get close to the level he was playing at before the cancer, I wouldn't be surprised if some NFL team finally gave him a chance.
 
texas a&m with a #1 overall and #2 overall in the two drafts... not too shabby....

in all seriousness though, the UFL is a great place for some of these guys to land and get paid/coached by former NFL personnel while also playing alot more than they would on a practice squad
 
The product itself is not so bad either. The quality of football is still there because you see alot of older players who really aren't has beens but guys that couldn't get the contract they wanted to continue to play in the NFL due to their age. It's not like scab football or anything.

I agree, and the quality jumped quite a bit when you compare the second season to the first. Hopefully in year 3 the product on the field will be even better. I like that they are going younger too, drafting young players who have talent but may have been overlooked. Some of them might end be in the NFL in a few years.
 
I like how they don't mind being a league that is used to show the NFL what it's got. They aren't competing with the NFL but rather working with them and in the meantime creating a good football product that is about football and no other gimmicks.

Yeah, will definitely be tuning in again this season...provided they get a TV contract. I'm interested in seeing how QBs like Jeremiah Masoli & Jerrod Johnson develop in the UFL.

I haven't watched the UFL, but it sounds like fun. I have no idea who to root for as none of these teams are near me or anywhere I have lived. I suppose I could find some washed up Texans or go with Jerrod Johnson, since I'm an Aggie. But I never liked Jerrod, and I think he's an awful QB.

I have a team nearby me, the Sacramento Mountain Lions, but I don't support them (no hate against the team, just hate Sacramento in general). The team I follow is the Omaha Nighthawks, have similar colors to the Raiders, a pretty good logo, and best of all a rabid fanbase. I'm hoping that fanbase will still be there as they move into their second year in the league.

The UFL bled a ton of $ its first two seasons, and they'll definitely lose some more in the third, but I'm hoping they find a way to stick around. If they can get a better TV deal than the one they had with Versus, and get a few more teams for their fourth season, they should be able to do well in the future.

I remember reading their biggest target cities for next year are Portland, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, & Los Angeles. San Antonio was supposed to be the 5th team instead of the Omaha Nighthawks, but talks broke down back then. I head over to the UFL Access forums to stay up to date, and last time I was there I remember reading talks with San Antonio had resumed.

You live in Portland? If so, that is pretty awesome. I think Portland could definitely support a football team, and judging by how well they've supported their Timbers once they entered the MLS, they will probably have one of the best fans in the league.

Did some more research, and apparently another city that is in contention is Chattanogga, Tennessee...what the **** :mcnugget:. I'm hoping they stick to larger/more recognizable cities...but if they feel a team their could be successful, more power to them.

Well, west of Seattle in about 2 days, but Portland's definitely within driving range.
