Lions Better Than Texans?

Exascor

Veteran
Well...they should be. The Texans entered the league in 2002 by picking their "veterans" in an expansion draft. Teams don't exactly put their top talent in expansion drafts. They put players that have high cap values or just not very good players. Few quality free agents want to play for expansion teams because they usually aren't successful for a long time. We received a few extra draft picks but not really enough to "stock a team" with starters from the draft after only 4 drafts.

We have had an expected poor record in our first 3 seasons. The thought is that we should be one of the worst teams for a few seasons, get high draft picks and solidify our team with quality. We were one of the worst teams over those 3 seasons with a 16-32 record. We haven't had the 1st pick since the expansion year draft. Only one team was worse than us in EACH of the 3 seasons we've played. You guessed it...Detroit.

Detroit has a 14-34 record over the past 3 seasons. They've drafted ahead of us each season. They have drafted a combined 7 draft spots higher in the first rounds alone. Detroits team was already estabished. Their draft picks have had veterans that have been with the team for years. Their QB had an established o-line to begin playing with.

Detroit is a great measuring stick for where our team is and where it should be. Detroit SHOULD be better than us. They haven't been since we've been in the league but...this year, with one game in played, they have us beat. They are clearly the best team of the 2. Joey managed to get 167yds and has a 95 passer rating against last season's 25th best defense. Carr had a horrible outing managing only 70 yds with a 12 passer rating against last season's 31st worst defense. As you can see, Harrington is clearly better than Carr and Detroit is a monster!

Seriously though, I feel that Detroit is a good team to keep an eye on. They are closer to a sister expansion team than the Browns. We have in the past and should continue to mirroring them in the standings. The AFC and AFC South is hands down tougher than the NFC and NFC North but it should still be close.

Go Texans! Go Lions!

Disclaimer: This post was posted because I LOVE GEEKS. Just a little razzing since I saw Joey 95 > Carr 12. There's a little sarcasm and some word twisting but I feel the bulk of it is true. All in good fun.

OK took me a second to see the sarcasm there.

As long as we agree...

Lions = better offensive line, Bunch of talented WRs.
Lions = play in weaker NFC
First game Lions played against pathetic defense and didn't score very much.

Texans = poor pass protection, One established WR.
Texans = play in tough AFC
First game Texans play against the 2nd best Defense in the NFL.

Carr > Harrington

But the Lions will be fine. They play in the weakest divison in the weakest Confence. If they can't win there, they can't win anywhere.

Nice, whatever.
I've already went through how much turnover the Lions have had.

The Lions would have had the #2 pick in that draft if The Texans didn't come into expansion. The Lions weren't picking #2 because they were any good.
The Lions had alot of OLD players, it was the last remains of the 90's Barry Sanders Lions, Millen tried to do a quick reload until they drafted Joey and decided to blow it up and start over.

The expansion team argument really doesn't mean anything to me, except that the Lions were as bad as an expansion team.

"but but, expansion team!" Yeah, that is getting tired.

I've had this argument before, I really don't care for it anymore. I warned you guys about your offseason, I warned you about how I thought the team got worse. All I got in response were insults and Joey Bashing (as if he has had it so much better until now). Whatever, I don't care. From now on, that little comparison next to my name is all I am going to say.

If you don't think it is fair, blame your general manager.

Wasn't intended to get you mad Ihategeeks-just a jab in return for your custom title. I've never felt you were a disrespectful fan or anything like that. I actually like the Lions and hope they pull out of their 21 year slump of not winning a playoff game this season. Being in the pitiful NFC North might be the medicine they need this year. I can see them 6-0 in the division. 3 or 4 more wins and here come the playoffs. :woot:

Well, 14 year slump (1991). Sadly enough, the win came against the Dallas Cowboys.

LOL your acting like the season is over. Or like we have even seen enough of this season to make a judgement, that the Texans are indeed worse. We don't know that yet.

We are playing the #1 & #2 defenses to start off the season. I already had these games projected as losses before the season began. It would be nice if we won them, but I was realistic.

What is funny is if we beat the Steelers this week everyone in the media and on this message board will make an about face.

lol, now that I think of it, what did the Texans do over the off-season? Why didn't they draft some o-line stud instead of Travis Johnson?

I am not sure if you are being sacastic about this but Buffalo was the number 2 defense in the league last year.

Yeah, that makes them the 31st worst. Don't worry, it threw me off too for a second.
