Maybe we should trade up and get one. There's supposed to be a killer punter in the draft this year.

So your solution is to draft a punter? Thats the ludicrous part. Why the eff would you waste one of your 8 draft picks on a punter? How about you get one of the 30+ undrafted punters OR go out and get one of the unemployed ones?

We did NOT get a comp pick for losing DROB. We got a pick from the leftovers they handed out.
Yeah, we should model our organization after the raiders. They have been doing a great job at it thus far.

I will say though, special teams were horrid this year. Offense started buried deep in their own territory, opposition started with favorable field position...I wouldn't be opposed to drafting a punter with anything past 5th rounder.

No, I'm saying the formula gave out 21 picks for lost free agents to other teams. The formula requires that 32 picks be given out each year, so the 11 remaining go to teams by draft order. The Texans pick 11th, so they got the 11th left over compensatory pick, which is the last pick in the draft.

In the 9 years the Texans have been in the league, there are three teams with fewer regular season wins (Oakland, Cleveland and Detroit). I'm thinking that modeling yourself after any of those three should not be a topic of discussion.
One could argue they actually got worse since Lechler got on the team. They reached the SB in 2000, then again in 2003, then in the cellar until today.
Im not saying they got worse with Lechler, Im just making a point. I would be ok with drafting a punter if we didnt have so many glaring holes in so many other positions. If we drafted a punter over a DL, LB, CB, S, WR, or even a second LB, CB, S, and WR then we would be making a grave mistake.
too many holes + not enough draft picks = no luxury to waste on a punter.
I guess we do hold the popular mr. irrelevant pick.....
