Preseason Schedule Announced

Ryan

THIS YEAR
Via Houston Texans Facebook

‎"2011 NFL preseason schedule was just released. Texans host the Jets on Monday Night Football, August 15. They host the Saints in the 2nd week of preseason, and then wrap up at San Francisco 49ers and then at Minnesota Vikings.
"

So what happened to playing the Cowboys every year. I need a reason to go to that stadium I am paying for w/o buying "Cowboy" tickets.

Good, now the players know when to cave in so they can miss 3/4ths of the preseason and all of the training camps! One step closer to an agreement!

Hopefully when they release the regular season schedule it won't be as much of a farce as this thing is.

No Bucs? Change is good!!! Maybe a different result for the season too!

That was the first thing I was looking for when the schedule was announced....thank goodness no more Bucs in the preseason....and gwallia I believe you are right.

Looks like we are slashing our ties with the Cowboys this year, and moving towards more split practices/game with the Saints.

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans have released their 2011 preseason game schedule.

The following information is from a press release sent out Tuesday afternoon.

Specific dates, times and television participants of all preseason games will be released at a later date, according to the release. The NFL will release the Texans 2011 regular season schedule later this month.

==================

HOUSTON TEXANS V S. NEW YORK JETS - AUG. 15 (HOME GAME)

The Houston Texans 2011 preseason schedule will begin on prime time in front of a national audience with an ESPN Monday Night Football matchup against the New York Jets at Reliant Stadium on August 15. Kickoff at 7 p.m.

==================

HOUSTON TEXANS VS. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - AUG. 19-21 (HOME GAME)

Houston will then take on the Saints for the fourth straight year and fifth time ever in the preseason. The preseason series is even at 2-2, with the Texans last winning 31-27 in New Orleans in 2008. The Texans and Saints will also square off in the regular season in New Orleans, marking the sixth time Houston will face an opponent during the preseason and regular season.

==================

HOUSTON TEXANS VS. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - AUG. 26-28

The preseason road schedule opens with a trip to San Francisco for the first-ever preseason meeting against the 49ers. Houston last visited San Francisco in the 2005 regular season finale and the teams last met in the 2009 regular season, with Houston coming out on top, 24-21.

==================

HOUSTON TEXANS VS. MINNESOTA VIKINGS - SEPT. 1-3

Houston closes out the 2011 preseason in Minnesota against the Vikings. The teams have met only once in the preseason, a Monday Night Football affair in 2009 in Reliant Stadium. All three meetings between the two teams (two regular season games) have been decided by seven points or less.

The Vikings preseason schedule had to have the 1st 2 games scheduled out of town because the roof repair of the Metrodome would not be complete. As I understand it, the contract calls for "substantial completion" by August 1. Many think that this "deadline" was a pipe dream. Others are skeptical that the contractors can produce a playable stadium before the opening day of the regular season. I read somewhere that the NFL had to force the Texans to play their last game in Minnesota, because other teams refused to schedule play in the Metrodome. The Texans may be presented with a last minute venue change. Who knows?

Just found the article I was referring to.:

Vikings Needed Help To Get Pre-Season Opponents

The Minnesota Vikings now, officially, have something in common with the 31 other teams in the National Football League. As we've heard from the recent stadium legislation, the Vikings no longer want to play any more football games at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

Which is good, because it turns out that none of the other 31 teams want to play football games at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, either.

Lester Bagley, the Minnesota Vikings' Vice President of Public Affairs and Stadium Development, was a guest of Mike Florio's on Pro Football Talk's PFT Live today, and revealed something that hadn't been brought to light until today. When you think about it, it's a pretty amazing declaration.

"We couldn’t even get a preseason game scheduled this year," Bagley said. "We could not get a partner and the league had to step in and help us get a preseason game scheduled because of that facility. . . . [T]he facility is no longer viable and we’ve got to resolve the issue."

That's right, folks. . .the Minnesota Vikings apparently had a hell of a time getting another NFL team to agree to play a pre-season game at the Metrodome. I assume that this is one of the side effects of having the roof of the freaking stadium collapse, huh?

At the risk of sounding all melodramatic, this is why the time to get Vikings' stadium legislation passed is right now. The Vikings' lease with the Metrodome is up after the 2011 season. The Minnesota Vikings will not play at the Metrodome after the 2011 season, at least not on anything more than a temporary basis while a new stadium is being constructed. If what Bagley said in that interview isn't enough proof of that, I don't know what is.

If the Minnesota legislature is going to sit on their hands and stall and not get anything done in 2011, they're simply not going to have a chance to do it in 2012. Hopefully, everybody will figure out the value of the Vikings to Minnesota and get something done before the legislature closes up shop in six weeks.

I was looking forward to making that trip and seeing Jerry's Taj Mahal. Bummer.

The Texans are the the NFL's step child.

I guess I'll make this road trip, since I have family in the Bay Area and I won't have to pay for a hotel room. Just buy everyone tickets to the game. Shouldn't be too difficult, seeing it's the preseason.

Not only have they played Tampa Bay every pre-season the Texans have ever had, it was always the last pre-season game.

Now, if they can just get this lockout BS over with, I can start to get excited about August 15.

Because of this whole lock out business, I'm just not as exicited this year as I normally would be. This pre-season schedule does nothing for me at all. Hopefully the draft will get me back in the mood again. :)

Yup, and due to our abysmal season last year I reckon it'll be our only MNF game.....and I'm fine with that.

I bet we'll get another one...I think ESPN knows how "exciting" our games are so i'm sure we'll get one. :wadepalm:

In all seriousness, a source told me that the chances are that the Texans will always get a MNF game. We are an exciting team to watch, apparently.
