CC is like the teflon man...NOTHING STICKS!!
Is CC having the greatest slump of his life or is he really not a good GM?
Yes, I know that he came to Houston as the man who single handedly built the Redskins powerhouse... he came in as a genius GM according to Bob McNair
So if that is true...what happened here for the last 4 years?
Let's be fair, he had some successes, that is:
1. Nobody expected DD to be a starter on this league, yet I have the feeling that the next game will be his last due to his injury prone record
2. He did get Sharper, Glen, Foreman and Posey only to get rid of them at the first opportunity he had for nothing in return
3. Dunta, CC Brown seem to be good picks
And the failures, are so many that I am sure I will miss some:
a. Failure to hire a winning head coach. Look at Caper's statistics. He's only had one winning season as a head coach. His overall winning percentage is less than 40 percent. So you would ask, why was he hired? CC needed to hire a head coach that would never compete with him for a general manager position. All the good coaches in the NFL out there to be hired, want to have a say in hiring and personnel decisions. I always asked, why did Mr. McNair not go for a proven winner like Jimmy Johnson or the Tuna? Not to mention other worthy candidates? McNair made his biggest mistake in hiring Casserly who wanted a head coach who wouldn't be asking for his job.
b. Just plain bad and sloppy personnel decisions. For a coaching staff who had a whole year to prepare for their first season, the mistakes they made are unbelievable. Such as paying tons of money to Boselli for not playing a single down for the Texans. Yeah...yeah...we have all heard the excuses about the absolute need for that decision so that we could get Walker and Paine...I say, it was no way near worth the tons of money this franchise shareholders have to play.
Some other Draft/Expansion Draft/ Decision ones: Eric Young, Joppru, Steve McKinney, Seth Wand, Tony Hollings, David Carr who right now is looking like Tim Couch (Palmer by the way was his HC, think it is a coincidence?), Wiegert,
c. Getting rid of Sharper, Posey, Foreman and Aaron Glen for nothing in return...way to go CC!!! Sure...you convinced Mr McNair it was a brilliant decision
d. Why would the Texans hire Vic Fangio who had one of the worst defenses in the NFL? Just look up the statistics. Fans in Inddianapolis held a victory parade downtown when he was fired. So, how did he become our DC? Simple, it's called the fraternity of coaching which insures that many worthy, coordinators will never get to the NFL because in the NFL it's like "I will hire you when you get fired, if you hire me when I get fired". So, we got people like Capers and Fangio.
e. Fangio likes to brag about his defense being the most complicated in the NFL. Please!! somebody tell Fangio what the KISS rule is all about. I have never seen a more incompetente DC than Fangio. When his linebackers drop into coverage in obvious running plays, and the opposing half back runs through the 3 DL untouched, and by the time he gets tackled, he has gained 12 yards, and you see this over and over again, then somebody please question this "my defense is the most complicated in the NFL" b.s.
f. Palmer had to go before the first Texans season. The fact that some people even question this decision after 4 years is still incredible. Palmer will one day make a good QB coach in the NCAA.
g. Casserly has got to go..... Mr. McNair you did not build an economic empire overlooking the simple fact that you need to get a decent return in your investment. This is as bad as it ever going to get. Insisting on a 5 year plan only helps Casserly getting away with mediocrity
and one final note,
h. Did you ever see Casserly on TV? I saw him 3 times, and I quit in disgust. I thought the Jack Pardee was the worst display of cheerleading in the NFL. CC proved me wrong. God, that is as awful as watching David Carr on Sunday
i. Failure to build an average Offensive Line. Yeah..we heard how hard he tried to find a DL...yeah... poor CC.. he tried but could make it happen... it is tough in the NFL...mean guys...
