Goals: improve the front 7 and use FA and proper coaching to improve the secondary

Rd 1: Robert Quinn OLB - stud pass rusher

Rd 4: Richard Sherman - young FS prospect

Rd 5: Darryl "Buster: Skrine CB - young prospect at CB - immediate help at KR/PR - extremely fast

LB: Barwin, Cush, Ryans, Sharpton, Quinn, Friday, Bentley

DB: Quin, Jackson, Weddle, Rogers, McMannis, Sash, Skrine, McCain

This seems to be the hopeful and popular logic being used around here by many the only problem is that we're not guaranteed to get anyone in FA. Players may be more expensive than what the Texans are willing to pay or may not want to come here and play for a team that can't develope or improve in 9 yrs.. Top FA's will be getting offers from many teams many of which will be contenders and they may see us as hopeless. I don't think you can ignore the secondary in the draft and hope to solve all those issues in FA. The Texans have never been an organization to spend alot of money on elite FA's.

Money had better not be an issue.

I think Bob understands that.

When did BoB begin to understand this?

He hasn't understood this for atleast the last 4 yrs.

Who was the first, last, or only big time FA this team ever signed? Antonio Smith I think is the biggest FA we ever signed and he was a mid level guy.

And perhaps this is not Bob as much as it is Rick Smith.

Bob let's his football people run the football side. I think Bob watches the marketing side much more.

I have yet to hear any comment from anyone that Bob said no to a player for financial reasons.

The Texans do not release much info, so it is all speculation about what goes on in the FO.

But the results have stunk so far.

I think Bob understands last year, 2009-2010 off-season was the year we should have been bold in FA. The way he was going on at the end of the season, & when he brought Wade in made me believe he's going to make a splash for the 2011 season.

I'm reading between the lines, has nothing to do with what we've done in the past, but I want to believe Rick Smith's job is on the line & FA will be the deciding factor.

I think that one of the biggest, if not the biggest, weaknesses of this franchise is the lack someone with a lot of football experience between Bob & Cal and the FO.

Unless you have a very strong, experienced GM, which I'm not sure we have, then Bob, who has practically none, has to rely on people talking for their jobs to let him know what is needed.

And all the other owners can tell him how good they are losing and are surely on the right track.

Not sure which direction or what the next destination is though.

Agreed

Only BoB can hire a proven GM and he's chosen not to do so.

BoB's biggest fault is he's either unwilling or unable to put high quality personnel people in place and let them do there job.

Has there been another team in the history of the NFL that has let a 2nd yr HC hire a rookie GM? Wouldn't you think BoB would question the wisdom of going all youth at the upper level of his football organization.

I'm just not buying that BoB is as misguided as some on this MB make him out to be.

Didn't Bob rely heavily on Dan Reeves and others on the hiring of Kubiak and Smith?

Casserly came with experince along with glowing resume & refernces, didn't seem to prevent him from making bone headed decisions. I would say you either got it or you don't & McNair is still waiting at the alter himself.

Casserly had been out of the game what, 15 years?

Pretty sure and that he was in Washington in 1999 when New Orleans traded away all their picks for Ricky Williams and then Washington got Champ Baily.

Here you go - Link

Yeah, I checked and you are right. Don't know where I got that impression from.

I think it was a surprise to most just how sucky Casserly wound up being.

The guy made the Ricky Williams trade with New Orleans, got a zillion picks, and didn't create a championship team with that? He was sucky long before he got here.

That's not what happened. McNair let a ROOKIE HC hire a ROOKIE GM. He just did it after the draft... which happened to be the best draft in Texans' history.

But that's water under the bridge. They're not rookies anymore and they haven't been rookies since their first season here.
