1st. Cameron Jordan, Cal, DE 6040 287 35" arms 11 1/8" hands
If not the best, close as can be projected to the best player available for Texans move to a 3-4. I'm also looking for a strong side OLB prospect who can rotate @ DE, see Mario Williams (would like to see some competition between the two to see who can get the most sacks). I think Wade can sell this to fellow coaches & players alike, not to mention adds valuable front line depth. Like his pedigree, bloodlines, character everything & he's ready to go without much transition since he played in a 3-4 at Cal. I did not include Von Miller, Robert Quinn or Prince Amukamara could be off the board.
2nd. Brooks Reed, Arizona, OLB 6030 263 32 1/4" arms 10" hands
You guys want Clay Matthews III you got him. Very impressed with his motor & edge speed. Excellent body control filling weak-side OLB position (along with Barwin coming off rehab). Reed is a maximum-effort player who will leave it all one the field. A true technician who overcomes lack of ideal size and top-end speed to be productive against the run and pass. Displays excellent awareness, maintains gap responsibilities, and can be counted on to play within your defensive system. Has the potential to stand up in a 3-4.
3rd. Deunta Williams, FS North Carolina, 6020 205 33 1/4" arms 10" hands
Did not workout @ the combine because he is recovering from a broken leg, otherwise no way he lasts this long in a weak safety class. Whether Texans move Quin to FS or not it should be a long range proposition to add talent early to Texans secondary. Williams has ideal size and good speed. Smart kid that is always in position and shows a knack for anticipating routes. Fluid athlete that sticks with receivers in and out of their breaks in man coverage. Possesses reliable hands and the body control to make difficult interceptions. Takes precise angles in run support and is a sound tackler
4th. Terrell McClain, DT/NG, South Florida, 6020 297 32 3/4 arms 10 1/8" hands
See him as a fine developmental NG/NT has really good feet in traffic, pairs up well w/Earl Mitchell who I projected Texans would take in 5th rd. last year but took in 3rd. McClain is tall enough with very good bulk. Possesses a quick first step and the lateral agility to stunt and slant effectively. Uses quick active hands to shed and gain penetration. Has the range to make plays outside the tackle box. Tough kid with a relentless motor that fights through double teams.
5th Daniel Ziemba, Auburn, OT, 6060 317 34" arms 9 5/8" hands
With Butler status up in the air I'm still thinking Texans will look to address swing tackle position. Ziemba, fresh off a BCS National Championship with Auburn, has a chance to become a solid starting right tackle at the next level. Has a ton of starts on his resume including many against top competition. He possesses excellent size and good mobility for a big man. Despite all his starting experience, he could still benefit from tightening up his technique as both a pass and run blocker. Flashes the foot speed and quickness the teams covet but still needs to do a better job protecting the quarterback and blocking out in space. Ziemba's a talented, battled-tested prospect. Love his name, this is the highest draft slot (7th) before Texans slide back down to #11 in 6th. If Texans do get supplemental pick I would be tempted to move up into the 4th to get him.
6th. Demarcus Van Dyke, Miami, CB, 6010 176 31 3/8 9" hands
Along with Free Agency CB expect Texans to uncover a fine cover cornerback with excellent size & speed (fastest player @ combine 4.28). Van Dyke is blessed with great speed and good height for a corner. Track athlete who can recover when beat and shows good burst to the football. Does a good job defending the deep ball with his length and straight-line speed. Is a good tackler in the open field. Hard-working and durable. Texans might consider to roll him into special teams player as gunner & returner.
7th. Jeff Maehl, Oregon, WR, 6010 190 31 1/2" arms 9 1/8" hands
Has the frame but undersized weight wise with room to add 15-20 lbs. loved watching him produce in clutch situations for Oregon. Not explosive, quick or fast his ability to create separation was demonstrated @ the combine where he notched top performances across the board- 3 cone (6.42 best of combine) 20 yard shuttle (3.94) & 60 yard shuttle (10.8). He is probably PS fodder to develop but in time could see him replace David Anderson in the slot. Has really nice soft hands, very reliable moving the chains.
