FA signings CB Ike Taylor provides vet leadership, solid CB, has played in 3-4.
FA signing NT Gabe Watson vet space eater, Should come cheap (Appealling to Bob)
FA signing Johnnie Lee Higgins upgrades the KR/PR game immediately, Speed like Jacoby Jones but has better hands, Not a good route runner but neither is Jacoby. Provides deep speed to strech the field and open up running lanes.
Mock draft using Rob Rang at CBS sports as my draft rd guide.
Rd.1 Justin Houston OLB, Georgia, Experience in 3-4 give Houston the edge over my 2nd choice Kerrigan. Trading down for more picks would be optimal. Plus Houston is on the clock and they select Houston would be kinda cool.
Rd.2 Muhammed Wilkerson DT/DE Temple, Wilkerson did 26 reps at the combine and had the longest arms by far 35.25 inches. At almost 6'5 and 315 LBS Wilkerson has the frame to put on 30 LBS and be a stud NT. He did all of the at the combine and tested very well. I would be willing to trade the 2011 2nd and a 2012 3rd to move into the bottom of the 1st rd and take Wilkerson. He's going to be a really good player and adds a physical presence.
Rd.3 Davon House CB New Mexico St., Has best hips to turn and run with a WR in the draft. House ran a 4.46 at the combine today. At 6'1 and 200 LBS he has a solid frame and he as almost 32 in arms. Bad hands is the reason he falls this far. But if I had to trade a 2011 3rd and OkOye to move into the bottom of the 2nd rd I would. This kid makes Jackson look like Petey Faggins.
Rd.4 Joe Lefeged S Rutgers, BL's guy good job. Dont know alot about him but he tore up the combine and they were talking on NFLN about what a great ST playmaker he was. The Texans could use this. Lefeged has speed 4.46 and a great vertical. BL said he was a playmaker at S for Rutgers.
Rd.5 Brandon Bair DT Oregon, Bair has long ars and is 6'6 274, so he has room to put on morevweight. Plays great motor and will get better with time as he adds strength. Bair's work ethic is really high.
Rd.6 De Marcus Van Dyke CB Mia. Van Dyke was the fastest player at the combine. Has long arms. Will be a great gunner on ST's, while he gains weight/strength while working with the Texans S&C and nutritionist. Wade coached Van Dyke in the East/West Shrine Game.
Rd.7 Chris White ILB Miss St. This is a guy I see in the Zach Thomas mold, smart intense football player, White will help improve the ST's
Rd. 7 (Dunta comp pick, Lucky I put the comp pick at back of 7th RD LOL)
Vidal Hazelton WR Cincy, Hazelton played well his Frosh yr at USC, then got hurt. (I think high ankle) He transferred to Cincy because he wanted to be closer to his cancer stricken grandfather. (High character) Unfortunately he tore his ACL in his 1st game at Cincy. He's completely rehabbed the knee and will run at his pro day. Hazelton was a big fast 6'2 215 LBS kid who KR/PR at USC. If Hazelton is healthy he would be a 1st/2nd rd talent.
By being agressive and moving up in the draft this mock provides much needed help to all 3 levels on defense with really talented players. Much needed depth on the DL and makes the ST's that were dreadful last yr much improved.
Hopefully Rick and Gary will be agressive in FA and the draft this offseason. This draft sets up very well to bring in young fast guys to upgrade the woefully slow defense the Texans were last yr.
Let the critiques begin.
