Tommie Harris released

The Texans at least need to kick the tires on this one. Wow. Tommie Harris is a player.

But if they cannot sign him by the start of the lockout on March 4th, it could be a while.

I am not sure I think he has injury issues like bob sanders it would have to be a highly incentive based contract. I think he has always been a 4-3 def tackle which doesnt fit our direction as well.

Although it's not his ideal position, he could play DE in a 34. He has the necessary skills.

He is very similar to Amobi...

Both came into the leauge extremely young...Both are lighter than normal...Both had good rookie seasons but have gone down hill since...

Only difference is that Harris has been more productive...

Harris's multiple injury/surgery history left the Bears holding his knees together with duct tape in order to get him through the 2010 season. With that said, he could probably still be a productive player used to plug up the middle on limited numbers of plays. He would have to have a salary heavily backloaded with incentives.

We need players that will be able to answer the bell. I don't think it would be wise to take on injury risks like Harris. We need production if this system is going to work.

See, this is where I disagree with you people (the Texans FO supporters and perhaps I am wrong to call you that but I just don't know enough of your posts). If this were just about any other team in the league, you know teams that have actually made the playoffs in the last 9 years, then I would agree with you. But the Texans are EXACTLY the kind of team that need to be taking risks on guys like Harris. High risk, high reward guys.

The status quo is not working, so why the hell do we keep on doing what has been leading to failure? I felt the same way about Shaun Rogers. Do I think he was the answer? Probably not, but he was worth a look, especially if with just a 1 or 2 year deal.

I mean come on guys. Mario, Demeco, Andre, & company aren't getting any younger. If we don't put something together quick, we are going to waste the prime of some of the best players in this league.

Take some risks, Bob! If it doesn't work out, fine. But at least try doing something different.

Two words: Ahman Green.

Touche.

That said, I still stand by what I said. Bad signings are just the nature of the game. You just can't let that stop you from taking some risks are some big time free agents. Sure, you will have the Ahman Green and Adalius Thomas signings, but you will also have signings like James Farrior, Charles Woodson, and Julius Peppers.

When have the Texans ever signed a FA that most of us had heard of before? OK, Ahman Green, who else?

Tommie Harris is a DT in a 4-3 defense and I think he's even smaller than the DTs we have already. He MIGHT be able to transition to a DE in a 3-4 but I don't think he's going to bulk up enough to be a NT in a 3-4.

He was great and dominate a few years ago but he hasn't been all that the past few years.

We can bring him in and talk to him but we shouldn't break the bank trying to over-bid anyone. He's just not that good anymore and he doesn't really seem to fit the direction we're going.

I would like us to try to acquire Jenkins. 2 yr deal

Yeah. I'm not saying we shouldn't go after some of the big name guys, even some of the big name guys who've had some injury issues lately, but we need to make sure the guys we go after are going to help us once we get them in here.

Kris Jenkins is a guy I'd like to see us get.

That's your response to any free agents? Bring up some aging back that looked awful the two years prior to getting here and was a dumb pick up in the first place? So one bad free agent move, and be damned if you ever try it again? That makes absolutely no sense. With that logic we shouldn't even enter the draft.

He's got the talent that warrants a workout. Bring him in and see how healthy he is.

If nothing else, he can be an interior pass rusher on 3rd downs.

I already said Chris Brown. How many more do we need to list?

Agreed. I actually didn't realize Harris was a small as he is.

I too would rather we go hard after Jenkins.

Great post, bro. Wish I could rep you.

Chris Brown was TERRIBLE too before we signed him. He had been absolute garbage. So that is your reasoning for not going after any big time free agents? Really?!? Chris Brown and Ahman Green are your counter arguments?

In my opinion, if Harris is willing to sign a reasonable contract as a backup he'd give us a formidable DE rotation with Mario, Smith & Anderson. Not having to start might help prolong his career & give him a chance to completely heal & showcase his talents for one last big contract. After all, as I said in my original post, he's only 27 years old.

No.

That's my response to going out and signing someone because once upon a time, they used to be good. That's my response to going out and signing someone who won't be able to contribute anything to the team.

I want Jenkins too............but the one from the Packers, Cullen Jenkins
