Gray to interview for Titans' defensive coordinator job

Jerry Gray, a former assistant in Tennessee, is a top candidate for the Titans' vacant defensive coordinator job, according to sources.

Gray is scheduled to interview with the team on Friday. He was a secondary coach with the Seattle Seahawks last year, then recently took a job with the University of Texas.

Gray knows Titans coach Mike Munchak from their time together on the staff. If hired, he could end up bringing former Texans defensive coordinator Frank Bush with him as linebackers coach. Saints assistant defensive line coach Travis Jones could be a possibility to replace Jim Washburn as defensive line coach.

Munchak was announced as Jeff Fisher's replacement on Monday, and has spent the week shaping the staff that will work beside him in 2011. He fired offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger and two other assistants on Tuesday and hired friend and former teammate Bruce Matthews to coach the offensive line on Thursday. Matthews had agreed to but not signed a two-year contract with the Houston Texans.

Munchak was also forced to cross a possible offensive coordinator off his list when the Jets denied the Titans the chance to interview Bill Callahan, the former Oakland Raiders coach who currently serves as New York's offensive line coach.

Nobody is gonna give him hell for hiring "friends"?

:)

Not me. In fact, this is encouraging news.

All that's being done, from where I see things, is Munchak following the same gameplan that Kubiak has: Hire people you're cozy with, and with the added cherry on top being NONE of those people he's hired are a direct threat to Munchak's throne. He's doing the Gary Kubiak approach, and I hope it works out worse for them than it has for us.

McNair finally gave in and decided to add a wild card with the Wade Phillips hiring. Now he has someone who IS a direct threat to the Kubiak throne.

Bud Adams, IMO, could have just sealed that team's fate for a long, long time. I'm hoping they suck so badly that Bud starts entertaining ideas of moving them to L.A. (You know, new stadium and all that jazz). $$$$$

That's when Titans fans are going to see my prophecy play out before their very eyes: If a guy has bad enough character to leave town and take his toys with him, once, then he'll do it again. Guaranteed. The heat will be on, via losing seasons and no remnant left of their previous successes that Bud will begin hearing the siren's song of L.A. And that's when the fun begins. I wonder how many trash talking Titans fans will be stopping by when the fit hits the shan?

Still no OC hire yet. Only time will tell whether this is a good move or not.

As far as moving the team goes, I don't see it in Bud's lifetime; he really got a sweetheart deal and PSL's guarantee "sell out" crowds for years to come.

They should hire Greg Davis as their OC and let him try to turn around Vince Young. I would be behind that 110%!

I don't think he's gonna be back...
