Steel B's Post Sr Bowl mock

These are some of the guys that impressed me at the Sr Bowl. I would like to trade down and get Taylor. But if no trading partner can be found. This would be my mock.

Rd.1 Phil Taylor NT. Baylor, Big man that can move, If his background checks out. Taylor would be the perfect 3-4 NT. Trading down and getting more picks would be optimal.

Rd.2 Quinton Carter S. Okla, Speedy fS, would automatically be the best S in Texans franchise history.

Rd.3. Brooks Reed OLB, Ariz, Really impressed me at the Sr.Bowl, Good edge rusher, High motor, reminds me of a young Mike Vrabel

Rd.4. David Carter NT, UCLA. This should be a realistic pick. Stong against the run. Phillips coached Carter in the East/West game. Carter was more impressive to me than the highly touted Austin.

RD.5. Ronald Johnson WR, USC, Takes JJ's place, Better route runner/hands than JJ, Johnson can also provide big plays in the PR/KR game.

Rd.6 Shiloh Keo, SS, Idaho, Keo is a big SS that will hit you, he's always around the ball, will bea great ST guy

Rd.7. Greg Lloyd ILB, UCON, Strong instinctive ILB, Makes up for below avg speed with great instincts, high motor just like his dad, will be a great ST guy, always around the ball.

With this mock most of the needs are met with high intensity type guys, double dipping NT position becuse of value, (Carter is a steal at this point.) Johnson is very underrated. Keo and Lloyd are guys that will be in the league along time they're smart football players. The Texans could use more of these kinds of guys

Let the critiques begin.

I don't think David Carter could play the NT, but he could certainly fit as a 5 technique DE. Two safeties and no CBs means you expect Quin to stay at CB. Didn't Wade mention something about Quin being a candidate to move to safety?

Some might say you "reached" for Taylor, but the location of the picks look reasonable to me. I wish the Texans had an extra pick to spend on a developmental QB.

I expect the Texans to sign a vet CB in FA.

D.Carter has the body type to put on more weight. In a couple of yrs he could be really good. I'm really hoping Ellis fals to the Texans in the 4th rd. But I tried to be realistic in my mock.

Taylor might be a reach Hopefully after trading down.

Thanks for the input.

taylor @ 11 would be an epic reach...no thanks. there's going to be defensive talent at 11. two teams in the top 10 will reach for a QB IMO. i rather take an injured paea than taylor at 11.

I don't really feel a lot has changed post Senior Bowl. Taylor did assert himself as a top 2nd rd. property while Von Miller showcased his wares. Both would make perfect sense #11 overall & #10th in second.

Also feel another team(s) could value both players higher on their board(s) hence be willing to spend more to acquire them.

Quinton Carter, FS but what if Quin is assigned FS duties? I do agree they will acquire veteran CB help which will facilitate move. The target here should be OLB if you go NT in first.

Have no problem with Brooks Reed or double dipping with quality pass rushing prospects. Texans pass rush needs to transform, overnight!

Carter did look good in that game, think LZ or AJ even mentioned him?

WR in 5th sounds good, liked that Miami kid Leonard Hankerson.

Texans might look for SS help if they don't try & resign Pollard.

you know I have ILB higher on my priority list, its so important for 3-4 to work, plus allows more time for DeMeco to fully recover.

overall, original & informative takes as always :)

This is why I'm in favor of trading down. Say after trading down to 20 and taking Harris. Then trading back into the 1st rd #30 and taking Taylor.

Then using extra picks gained to trade back into the bottom of the 1st rd and taking Taylor. He wont be there at #40.

Who are these special defensive players that will meet the needs at #11?

I've got no confidence in Rick/Gary doing a good job in this draft.

Maybe this draft will be important enough for both of them to show up at the scouting combine.

justin houston...but he's going to work himself into one of the bluechippers IMO. if he goes in the top 10...one of the two CB will fall...and i wouldn't be surprised if quinn falls out of the top 10.

I don't know why you are so fixated on Kubiak not going to the combine last year.

Because last yrs draft was terrible.

I believe Kubiak scheduling his sleep apnea surgery for the week of the combine was Kubiak being negligent in his duties as the leader of the on field product.

Every other HC/GM was at the combine. That's where a HC gets to interview the players and get a feel for who they may be as people/players. How important football is to them. This is the most important time of the yr for talent evaluation and Gary wasn't there.

It wasn't like Kubiak was having a surgery that couldn't be put off. (sleep apnea is not life threatening IMO) He chose to have surgery that week and he could've had it after the season (It's not like the Texans made the playoffs LOL) and been ready for the Combine.

The fact that Gary chose to have that surgery at that time speaks volumes as to how much work the Texans put into their draft preparation. Do you think Belichick/Ryan/Payton etc... would've missed the combine for that reason?

Never, they would've had the surgery scheduled so that they could've attended the combine. It amazes me that BoB lets this kind of stuff go on.

What is Smiths job? If it's evaluating talent based on last yrs job he did at the combine then Smith=Fail. Gary and Rick both are teflon men and the Texans will never win with these type of people running the operation.

I agree with everything you got here BL. You really think Hankerson will be around in the 5th though? Everything I've seen and heard has said 2nd, and 3rd at the worst.

tell you the truth, my focus hasn't been on the WR position. After watching him in the Senior Bowl he has the type of skill set suited for the next level. he adjusts well to the ball, even when under thrown, runs fluid routes, catches the ball in traffic & uses his big body to shield defenders off. I think he made Mayocks must go back to the tape & review category.

He made himself some money, yeah not a 5th rounder more like a late 2nd early 3rd....kinda like Jacoby :toropalm:

I agree with bah007, I don't think Hankerson will be around in the 5th. Someone you might look at in the 4th or 5th round is Terrance Toliver-WR from LSU. He's 6'05" with decent speed.
