I'll pass on this. The way things go for the Texans, if that happened we would end up with the guy selling beer in Section 604 as the new DC because "the kid really showed us something up there. Beer sales were really down in that Section, but this kid really got people buying. I think we are on the right track now as far as beer sales goes, so we'll see what he can do with this great group of kids we have on defense."

First off, I can give a 98.851% assurance that Wade Phillips is going to pass on this offer to interview.

He has been paid fairly well, he just got out of jail (Dallas), and he's in Houston where his daddy (his real daddy, not Bob McNair his sugar daddy) made himself a football legend.

He'd be crazy to take a dump on the Texans now. Plus, there's that whole history of how Bud Adams left with the Oilers and how Wade would essentially be co-signing onto that dysfunction.

Once again, this is Bud being Bud. Defiant and antagonist to the bitter end.

If Wade wanted a HC gig, then he should have waited it out instead of leaping at the premature offer of McNair (since we know damn well that it's not like he wasn't already in informal talks before the formal talks began with McNair). He's going to accept what happened--that he didn't wait it out and maybe isn't even desiring a HC job--and he'll stay with the Texans and try to wait out Gurry Kubiak. THEN he'll be HC and he'll be happier doing it. Plus, the media here will toss him meat picthes even when he ends up stinking up the joint as HC here. It's a win-win-win situation for him here.

Since he's under contract with the Texans I believe they would have to grant him permission to speak to the titans, which they would be dumb to do, if this was real and not a joke.

The Texans would have to let him interview as it would be a step up.

I am still bent that Rob Ryan got no phone call from Bobby Mac.

i'd be exceptionally PO'd if it happened (i wanted wade as DC the moment his job in dallas was in question), but it wouldnt. even if bud offered, wade wouldnt take it. he has his natural position, under an exceptionally lax owner and management, for his hometown, with a solid paycheck, and the possibility to take the reigns if we fail - or enjoy more accolades if we succeed. no way he tosses that to coach a team in total chaos and without a quarterback. with the oiler fandom from his early days (including his dad) choosing the texans, i'd venture that the titans and especially bud adams are pretty low on his list.

AH! LOL!

I missed the "j/k" at the end.

With how bizarre it's been, with Bud Adams and Vy and Fisher now out, I just assumed this was the natural progression.

Man, I took it hook, line, and sinker. DOH!

he'd be upgrading positions, which as far as i know would mean he's able to interview and take a head coaching or GM position without seeking permission. to move laterally (another assistant position) he'd need our permission. i could be missing by a mile, but that's how i understood it.

I understand that, but has a coach ever taken a coordinator job then left for a head coaching job in the same off-season? Shouldn't there be a rule in place to prohibit something like that like there is in trading players who just signed?

I think a more likely scenario might involve Munchak (assuming he got the nod to step up) calling and wanting to talk to Bruce Matthews about coming back home to the organization he played for.

What do the Texans do then?

What do the Texans do then?

We get Al Del Greco to assist with special teams?

Or maybe find a mentally challenged kid to run out and grab the kickoff tee and then run back and do a forward roll over the sideline?

I'm running out of Oilers Nostalgic Moments that McNair can incorporate. I don't think Bucky Richardson or Billy Joe Tolliver would bring anything to a position of QB coach.

The Bum Phillips angle is already in place, so that doesn't leave too many opportunities for him. Maybe Haywood Jeffires as WR coach or something.

This just seemed destined to happen, and so it did.
