Where were the other receiverS?

I'll tell yall something else.....where were all the receivers at today?!I mean everyone on the buffalo defense was on AJ!I don't think Jabar got any catches today and I he missed one that hit him without turning around!And where in the hell was Corey Bradford at?!Seems like none of our receivers can get open!We once again need to draft a complement to Johnson it seems!
 
To answer your question, they were all cut from the 53 man rooster. Remember, Kasper who was making great catches in pratice. Turns out he had a problem, he could catch the ball so they cut him. Yea, and Starling had that problem too. You got to be careful about keeping receivers who can catch the ball. Remeber, they might make the other team think they have to worry about your offense. That's very bad if you are defensive minded, because only the defense is suppose to win games. Remember, you can't have your defense out shinned by the offense. THIS COACHING STAFF IS THE BIGGEST BUNCH OF BSers to walk down the lane in a long time and you guys buy it hook line and sinker.
 
If you have 2 or 3 men covering AJ somebody has to be open why are the Texans not throwing to the other receivers?

Oh and dont forget about Sloan Thomas. You never want a receiver that makes highlight real catches on 3rd down, cause then the QB might actually have another option, I like it better when we know who hes going to throw it too.

That required David Carr to check down to his 2nd and 3rd option which is something he hasnt been able to do since he was drafted. Whether that be because he doesnt have the time or he just cant do it.

And this is something new? Carr has never been able to go through his progressions....even when he has time, he looks lost. He looks for AJ, then immediately starts searching for his safety valve. For a 4th yr QB, that is unacceptable in my book.
 
Because they're either being held back for non-exsistant blocking or they ain't open either. Course they can't catch the ball either, so it really doesn't make any difference. Then there is the fact ----- the announcers noticed the tendency --------- to run on 1st down and then throw on 2nd down when you are in the hole. See the game plan was to run on 1st and be in position to throw or run on 2nd and/or 3rd. However, when that doesn't work you must still do the same thing. That's called surprising the other team. You know you have to give the other team the edge because your defense is so superior. You have to run on 1st to really give your defense confidence. So much BS in the game its not even funny. Your down, your out and you've got one chance and that's to go for it. You only need 3 inches, but you punt the ball. That is, has been, and will always be the Capers mentality. Why do you work in preseason on using a defensive end to block in this kind of situation and not at least try it. Nobody's going to fault you for trying. But to give up, what message does it send to your team.............
 
Gaffney was hardly open and when he had his change, he ignored the ball. We fired a long bomb Bradford and layed it right in his hands, he was even double covered, still nothing. Yea sure, it's David Carrs fault. Nice.

When they showed the replay it looked like he almost held it long enough to be called a fumble. Again, when the announcers are sitting there and saying the Texans are running on 1st down everytime you just have to wonder what the hell is going on in the mind of the OC. At the end of the game when it didn't matter then they started to pass on 1st down, of course, people will counter with the stats showing we didn't run always on 1st down. But when it mattered we did. Place your QB in a hole and let the other team fire away yields sacks. Well, guess what we probably are leading the lead in one category after the 1st game. That is sacks allowed once again. Doesn't it just get a little bit old. Bye the way it didn't look like much 2 and 3 step drops during the game. You can't go and stand in your spot in the NFL and expect to get the ball. The defender is just licking his chops hanging off the receiver so he can make his move. This offense sucks big time and there is no way around it. Anybody can and does defend us. We are the laughing stock of the league. Everyone says we have to fix the O-line. Well, Duh we have been saying that for how many year.......... By the way guess what the Buffalo coach said he had to fix when he came in. Oh, the left side of the line and he did. Shock and dismay that someone would actually do what they said they needed to do. He didn't make excuses. If he could find people to fix his line why couldn't we? Just May BE people don't want to play for our coaches. Could it be we have a bunch of losers and eveyone knows it?

Apparently, you have a special tv that nobody else has that shows much more of the field, or you have special x-ray vision. You have been a Gaffney naysayer since day one. Blaming this flaming hunk mess on Gaffney is weak. Nobody played greata by any stretch, but if you are looking for the biggest culprit on offense, it was the guy with his hands on Mckinney's butt all afternoon.
 
Why does our offense look so crowded also? I look at other teams and everything looks so spread out. The guys on single coverage get thrown to and get to make more yards after catch, all kinds of stuff. We run a play and everyone who is possible on our side of the ball is right there.
 
i think it can be summed up by this...going into the off season we had two pressing needs...a #2 reciever and to fix the damn o-line...what we did was worry about the pass rush again and go and try and fix the running game...not sure who to blame...capers for cutting guys who could have fixed one problem just so he could keep 3 TE's or casserly for not being more pro-active

Its plays like that that I blame a game like this on. It was just a classic example of our inept recievers. Carr had time to throw and placed it perfectly, just like the bomb to Bradford. The biggest culprit is the oline, everyone said we needed to address this in the offseason and our answer is Riley. There you have it. I love how you defend Gaffney however. Classic.

Exaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaactly, exaaaaaaaactly!!! That's what I said a little while back. I thought that Kendrick Starling shouldn't have been cut. Imagine Andre Johnson, Jerome Mathis, Kendrick Starling and Sloan Thomas in 4WR sets, especially with Carr giving us that Jeff Hostetler look right now... yeah, you already know... That would be so nasty. Speed and hands? Works for me.
Honestly though... Like I said in another posts I would like them to start Mathis over Bradford and let Bradford and Gaffney fight for slot #3 & #4.
 
ya he didnt' have any time, it doesnt help that the receivers are all going up field rather than short routes, why didnt we try to spread the field today? if the texans know that he doesn't have time to throw, then spread the field get some short drops, wow that sounds awfully familiar doesnt it?
 
They called the quick slant 3 times yesterday, that is a OC problem. When Carr was called upon to make those throws, he nailed them right where they were supposed to be, but when you only call it a couple of times a game when guys are stacking the box, its a blueprint for disaster.
 
I find it interesting how no one is laying the blame for any of this on AJ, yet everyone wants to point to one pass play, late in the game, where Gaffney didn't turn around. What about the slant (one of three called all game, evidently) EARLY in the game that AJ just dropped? That could have built some confidence and gotten things rolling. What about the passes that AJ dropped in the preseason? I'm not sure I've seen AJ drop so many passes in a 3-week period.

I'm not really cracking on AJ, and I agree with anyone who says he's our best player, but there's plenty of blame to go around. Stop trying to make Gaffney the scapegoat.
 
What's funny to me is that the ball was perfectly placed in Bradford's hands yet forget about the one of two db's covering him that pulled his other arm away from the ball. It's not like he caught it and just dropped it.
 
they didnt pull his arm away.. but they did get a hand between his.. and thats why the ball bounced out.

That play wasnt anyones fault... it was just good coverage.
 
It was good coverage but alot of guys in the NFL make that catch. I would love to see more Armstrong. This team needs playmakers.

Bradford was open backside, the whole game. But if the QBs eyes are glued on 80 all game, it will look like the other receivers are covered. Go back and watch the game again, and then reply to this board. Thanks..... :pigfly:

Kasper and Starling caught passes during preseason, cause the qb that was in wasnt glued on one receiver. and they were playing against 3rd and 4th stringers. And Kasper fans, great catches in practice doesnt count. Lets see him do it against starting secondaries in the NFL. And if their so good, how come there still looking for a team to play with :crying:

Guys, stop jumping on WRs that were catching passes during the preseason against the 3rd and 4th string. That doesnt count. And if those receivers that were cut were so much better than the ones we have now, why are those cut guys still not on a team. :brickwall

You could have gotten T.O. and R. Moss in the offseason. If the QB is stuck on 80 all the time, it would be the same problem :cool: Its not the WRs, lets put the ball in their hands first, before we start judging!!!!

I can tell u are a practice squad player. Because u can run fast, doesnt make u a WR. Mathis and starling receiver skills are of no comparison to Bradford and Gaffney. You must have forgotten what Bradford did the first year with no help, and no line! And what Gaffney did his second year. That goes to show you, no balls no yards!!!!!! :confused:

I would love someone to make a catch like that when a Free safety is running thru his chest and the ball. He(the safety) beat the ball to the spot.

Well you can't catch everything, and you won't necessarily drop everything. You missed what I was trying to illustrate. Just like people think Dave Ragone may see something that David apparently doesn't and want to see if he learned anything over there in Europe. Also feeling like it's worth a try... I feel like just having Mathis on the opposite side may cause a slight change. Teams may not completely focus on Andre and leave something open like just one of our TE's. I mean look at the Falcons the other day with Vick only having Crumpler to go to. Unless we're going to get 4WR on the field more often?

Thoughts and opinions, that's all...
