Season ticket question...

I know that no one has first hand experience of this yet, but can anyone answer my question with any basis of fact?


Oh, the question?

If I were to buy season tickets from an individual, do I have any quarantee of getting first rights to the playoff tickets if that were to come to pass? Would I have any rights or protections? Or would I be dependent on the honest nature of the seller?

It's 100% on the honest nature of the seller. Buy the PSL or call the Texans and buy some season tickets now.

Not unless you buy the PSL too. Then the whole thing is in your name and you get first rights. If you just buy the tickets and the individual still holds the PSL, the individual will be getting playoff invoices.

For non-PSL's, the accounts are not transferable, so if you buy season tickets from an individual, that individual still owns the season ticket account and that individual will get the rights on playoff tickets when they'd become available, not you.

Not necessarily true. I purchased non-PSLs from spmebod here on the boards. I got in contact with the Texans and they happily transferred them after receiving a letter from the seller. They did tell me that they don't normally do this but I'm not the only one who's successfully done it this way.

Doesn't seem like that's something they should be doing if there's people on a waiting list....which I have no clue if there is or not. Of course, it doesn't seem like they should be missing playoffs 9 years in a row either but they do that too.

I guess if the original ticket holder his giving up his right to buy tickets and you and the individual and the Texans work something out, then it sounds like it's possible. Just doesn't seem like it should be though. I don't know why you just don't buy your tickets from the Texans.

The reason they "happily" did it is because they're desperate to sell tickets and cut deals with people.

Don't listen to the people that claim that there's a zillion people waiting in line to buy every seat and therefore the Texans don't care about ticket holders. It's simply not true. The economy is bad and the team is 6-10. Guess who has the upper hand? Hint: Not them.

I respect your opinion albeit I disagree with it. I don't want to sidetrack JB's request thread but he is on a waiting list as well was I before i purchased mine. I like to think it's my manners that got me as far as I did despite the written policies. There are a lot of people who are willing to wait for the right seats to come to frutition. I believe the Texans understood that in my case.

Oh I definitely think your nice manners got you far. I didn't mean to imply that they did not. I'm just say that the Texans are in a tight spot trying to sell a mediocre product, and that they have to be flexible.
 
You could have the owner sign a contract that says you have first right of refusal for playoff tickets, but if they decide to reneg, it may not be worth the headache to go after them.

Seconded - I was the original owner of non-PSL tickets. When I relocated out of Houston, my friend bought our tickets and we transferred the name on the tickets to him (obviously going through the Texans ticket office). We're now back in H-town, my friend still "owns" the tickets and I get a few games from him through the year.

Just gotta get with the ticket office and make sure the t's are crossed and i's dotted.

If someone sells you the season tickets for one season that does not create a promise that they will sell your any playoff tickets for that season unless he agreed to that at the time of the original sale. I fail to see how that would make them non-scrupulous if you did not make that agreement when you bought the season tickets.

But seriously folks. This is just an academic discussion. We live in Houston. Not Indianapolis or New England or Pittsburgh or Kansas City or Seattle or Philadelphia or Chicago or Atlanta or any other place that really needs to worry about getting tickets to a home playoff game.

PSL holders get 1st right.

JB, I wouldn't worry about the playoff ticket thing for atleast 2-3 yrs.

Yeah, but my luck says they would host their first playoff game and I wouldn't be able to get tickets...
 
JB, the waiting list is a joke. Get to know a ticket rep in the front office. Any one of them. Have contact with them every 2-4 weeks, be super polite and keep mentioning that you are really excited to buy season tickets.

The problem you MAY be facing (complete speculation) is that the Texans only have PSL seats available and no season ticket only seats available.

But I know they are ALWAYS trying to sell tickets which is why I say the waiting list is a joke.

When I sell seat(s) on Ebay I specifically say tickets to 10 home games. I also don't specifically say 'excluding playoff rights' because I don't want some Yahoo trying to haggle with me after the fact.

Completely understandable. Tell them your are charging a parenting tax and they need to go get jobs or pick up extra shifts to buy you PSL's :)

Playoffs??? At Reliant??? Anyway, as I listed my PSL's for sale on the TEXANS web site, I counted the number of PSL seats for sale. Yeah, I'm bored. I came up with a number around ONE THOUSAND seats. I was surprised it was that many.
