Phillips is to Kubiak as Kubiak was to Carr --- McNair = Adams?

McNair wanted Carr, and got him. McNair wanted to salvage Carr and got Kubiak. Now, McNair has Phillips to salvage Kubiak.

In some respects, McNair is very similar to Bud Adams. McNair could care less what the fans think. There is a check. McNair runs the franchise as he sees fit with a bit of an attitude. There is another check.

Of course, McNair conducts himself very differently than Adams, but the end result is the same, a hobbled franchise and an owner that is just plain obstinate.

What is ironic is that the firing of Bum Phillips by Adams was extremely painful to the fans and now it seems McNair’s decision to hire Bum’s son, Wade, has similar feelings to the fans. The beginning of the end for Adams, was the firing of Bum, we’ll see if the same comes around with McNair hiring Wade.

Oh, the irony and the repeated mistakes are so clear on many levels. Just as the fans of Houston gave up on Adams, the same could happen to McNair.

I sincerely hope this works. Good grief, the football fans of Houston deserve all the breaks of at least one season to become Super Bowl champs for all the pain and suffering we have gone through. I would gladly relish a Super Bowl victory and admit I was wrong about McNair, Kubiak, or whatever!!!

But, I am very skeptical that will happen. The final analysis, it seems we are cursed by the football owners of our NFL Houston teams.

Let's just hope that Wade Phillips is not to Gary Kubiak what Buddy Ryan was to Jack Pardee.

I am ready to give this new revised D a chance to work. Yes, I was in the fire Kubiak crowed but he was not. I think we have the right players now and the right coaches to make the change to the 3-4 and do it pretty smoothly and quickly as well. Let's allow Wade the resources to sign the player he would like to sign. Also, let him decide the draft picks for the D along with Gary and Rick. I don't know how much control Frank Bush had over the D but I am hoping that Wade will have as much power as he has had before with the Bills and his other DC gigs. Many times people often do not give change a chance to work at all or they just do not give it enough time to work and set in. Phillps has even been an HC before and has winning record and has also brought many teams a great D before coming here to Houston so the bottom line is I am ready for Wade to bring in the rest of his staff and go to work because as a fan that is all I have to roll with JMO.

Carr, Adams, McNair, Kubiak. You've just bitten off more than anyone can chew.

Throw Rosenfels and Matt Stevens in there for good measure.

If 2011 is another bad season, Kubiak is gone.

I hope it isn't. I want to ****ing wake up on a mid-January day thinking "we bout to beat the #6 seed's ass"

Go Texans!

What, in this team's history, makes what you just said a possibility?

Shark, come on now. You are already thinking about next year. You're telling yourself that "IF it's bad, Kubiak is gone" but there isn't anything to support that.

If anything, the arrival of Wade Phillips has solidified Kubiak even more. Because McNair is going to reason that it wouldn't be "fair" to hold Kubiak accountable for Phillips' first season here.

And even if what you speculate DOES end up happening, what does that mean? It means Bum's boy becomes head coach even if it's only for an interim period. But the rub is this: Wade is here now. He's Bum's boy.

This is all so jacked up. There's hardly any way this can end well. I think McNair actually made a bad situation worse here.

And that's the part about all of this that seems to be the most disturbing. Hiring Wade actually might have been worse than keeping Frank Bush as jacked up as that sounds. Lol!

It's already like Mcnair thinks that Kubiak is some sort of offensive genius which is the dumbest urban Myth out there for some reason. He thinks he's got Bill Walsh in Kubiak for some reason. So now, I really do think he's going to have the same type of patience with Wade on the defensive side of the ball thinking once it works like he thinks it will that he'll have these two great coaches on both sides of the ball, but in reality it's two softies that don't hold players accountable and the end leader is Kubiak which is a black hole in itself. :mariopalm:

I just don't see how this ends well even if they have short term success. Short term success would actually be the worst thing that could happen in my opinion. If the Texans did make the playoffs next year under this new plan it would probably keep both of these guys around for another 5 years no matter how bad this franchise might be after that season. That one playoff season would be probably the equivalent to a SB to Mcnair and the majority of this fan base with how low the bar has been set as far as expectations for this franchise. Uuuughhh!!

A 12-4 season, first round bye, and a choke job at home in the playoffs to the Chiefs who brought in Bret Favre for one last hurrah? Wade then leaves for a HC job at Arizona and we bring in Jeff Fisher?

I read the title and failed to make sense of it several times over...
Maybe you don't agree with the analysis?

The way I see it. McNair makes the ultimate decisions of the franchise and will override anyone. McNair will paperover his bad decisions. For example, brings in Kubiak to save the Carr decision, then brings in Phillips to save the Kubiak decision. Do you understand that analysis? Maybe you don't see it that way?

In regards to Adams and McNair. McNair could careless what the fans think! He does whatever he want and tells the fans to go pound sand. That sounds like Adams to me. Of course, McNair's personality and actions are very different from Adams. But, the end result is the same, a team that cannot achieve and a fan base that is getting increasingly upset with the owner and his decisions.

There could be a particular moment of clarity next season just like the Oiler-Buffalo playoff debacle.

Its really sad to say this, but what I am saying is that Texans are becoming the old Oilers. New owner, new team, new stadium, new players, but same results and fan frustration. However, the road to getting to the same place is a little different.

Mark this down, if the Texans fail again next season, you will see these comparisons start to come out! It isn't that clear now, but it will take shape if things don't change!

Hopefully, you can make sense of my viewpoint. I am projecting ahead of the curve.

It's a good thing to have McNair threads. We as fans need to get to know this guy as well as we possibly can, and he's managed to keep himself off the radar all these years.

I don't think McNair's all that much like Adams. Adams will try to make a splash every now and then with draft picks and coaching hires. Bud also lets his personal feelings control his decisions. McNair is a lot more deliberate and almost always will always choose the safer option.

I think it's also more obvious that McNair's more involved in football operations that Bud is. Bud is a lot more detached from his franchise than McNair is. From what I've heard, Bud is usually here in Houston and lets his executives make the calls. McNair is also here in Houston, except he's at Reliant every day.

I think we learned more about McNair the past 2 weeks than we have the past 9 years. He got asked this week which other owners that he talks to the most. His answer was Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones. I think he falls somewhere between those two owners as to his level of involvement.

I was referring to Adams as the owner of the Houston Oilers, not how he currently operates. I don't know how Bud operates the Titans.

McNair is really proving himself to be an inept owner and I have effectively given up any hope of us landing a proven winner at the head coach position.

When you have relatively noobies like Harbaugh getting over 7million a year, it makes me shudder to think what a proven winner like a Cowher, Gruden, or Holmgren will command on the coaching market. Their agents got really happy when they see the money that was thrown at Harbaugh.

Does anyone really think McNair is going to spend the big money like that on a coach? I don't even think Kubiak gets 2million per. This just stinks and is probably going to keep our franchise at a mediocre or worse level for the forseeable future.

Our only hope is Bob goes away and that his son Cal wants to be a winner more than a greedy profiteer.

The people are pissed and this next season isn't going to change things but just make it worse.

Bud > Bob any day of the week and that is just embarassing to have to admit

Bob needs to fire all these losers and get us a winner but it aint gonna happen. Bob just wants more money and he doesn't care about winning championships as long as he can sell his $8 beer and $5 hotdogs. F You Bob.

Still so grateful we sold our PSLs before the Texans stock took the big Nestea plunge this offseason. Got every penny back and even a nice dinner out with my dad and my brother. Let someone else pay Bob until he wakes up from being such a worthless pile of dog crap as an owner. And FWIW, we had to sell them to a Patriots fan moving to Houston because no one was willing to pay the money for the GLORIOUS 9-7 season last year. Remember 9-7 when we practically had a parade around this city for this team? Maybe people should expect more around here. It's like people thinking Bagwell should get in the HOF. Really?!?!? Really?!?! So i guess being like 0-100 in the postseason equates to greatness around here...until that changes with the mindset of people this will always be a carebear low expectation-having fanbase in this city.

In a real sports town, Kubiak is driven out like Frankenstein and new leadership would be demanded not just desired.

I can't find the links, but I believe Kubiak's original contract was 5 years, $10 million. The 3 year extension replaced the last year of that contract, at $3.5 million per. So in 5 years, Kubiak has taken $11.5 million to produce zero playoff games.

Hey, don't blame the city for the owner not doing his job. It's sure as hell not my fault. Is the media soft here? Yes. Almost as soft as the team. I don't think the people are soft.
