Maybe when Gary stinks it up next year and Interim Wade stinks it up after Kubiak is canned, Bill Cowher will still want to coach in Houston.

Dolphins Defense-TM- Dolphins Jan. 5 - 11:15 am et

According to the Miami Herald's Jeff Darlington, Bill Cowher is now content to remain an NFL analyst for one more year.
Asked if there was anything the Dolphins could do to tempt Cowher, a source close to the ex-Steelers coach replied, "I don't want to say there's nothing they can do, but the conversations are not ongoing." Miami was not initially willing to cut ties with DC Mike Nolan or GM Jeff Ireland to land Cowher. They may have to revisit that stance if they swing hard and miss on Stanford's Jim Harbaugh. It's becoming more and more clear that Tony Sparano isn't the answer for 2011.

The hope I'm keeping is that Kubs and Phillips fix all the problems and we are discussing a Superbowl with the Texans in it next year!!

Or we could hope that this is the right combination and we go 12-4 next year. But yeah, I can see where your idea is much better.

Mike

Just waiting one more year before Coughlin is fired and he gets to take over the Giants.

As far-fetched as it sounds that Cowher might come here to coach, it seems to me that Kubiak going 12-4 is way into fantasyland.

hahaha...yeah right. Kubiak sucks and its been staring us in the face for 5 years.

he is what he is...a losing head coach....and to all the yayhoos and homers. that is a FACT.

Super Bowl? give me a break. we will be lucky to get 8 wins and you know Bob isn't going to spend any money. He will re-sign Foster, thump his chest, peruse the bargain bin with Rick Smith (an annual rite of passage for any Texans season) and rest on his laurels as usual.

Bob is a greedy pile of crap and has no clue about being an owner. But at least he has a decent number of houston fans who are just as delusional and naive as he is. Some people actually think we are on the right track....5 years later...and after our worst season under Kubiak.

but whatever, changing everything is always a step back....whatever

There is nowhere to go but up. We had 6 wins with 4 of those coming in the first 6 games. Who can really be stupid enough to believe in these failures? My only hope is they fall in the toilet..AGAIN..and this time McNair gets rid of this pile of crap people call Kubiak. Thank God it looks like Bill Cowher is willing to wait for his opportunity. Lord knows Bob won't pay the guy until our fanbase collectively puts a gun to his head.

KUBIAK SUCKS
MCNAIR SUCKS
SMITH SUCKS
PHILLIPS SUCKS

4 for 4...hooray

Mike

If we go 12-4 next season, I'll give you control of my signature line for a month. If we don't go 12-4 how about I get yours for a week?

Bet?

At this point, I cannot even imagine a scenario where Bob McNair would hire a coach like Bill Cowher. I just don't think it's in his DNA, and honestly, I think Gary has at least two more years here because 1) Wade (or whatever DC) will need two years to fully implement his system (especially if there is a lockout), 2) changing head coaches is TRAUMATIC *GASP!*, 3) Bob loves him some Gary.

I wish I could have hope for Cowher someday, but my perspective is that Bob McNair is a hopelessly inept NFL owner at this point.

I understand the allure of Cowher, but honest question not directed solely to DB - if the reports are true that Cowher essentially wants to be GM and HC combined who are the examples of that working out well?

sure Bob wants Gary to succeed, but this is a buisness decision. Protecting the buisness model is more important heading into a labor lockout, then continuity coming out were primary considerations :chef:

Mike Shanahan. Back to Back Super Bowls in Denver.

I thought maybe Holmgren in Green Bay, too, but can't find the source on the Internet to back it up.

It's not impossible to be GM and HC. But it seems that it's hard to be good at all of it. There's no devil's advocate when acquiring or cutting a player.

Both of them got their GM responsibilities after their success.

I would like nothing more than for you to be right- I will gladly say I was wrong about Kubiak and will eat my deserved portion of crow. I'm sure that many on here would join me in that sentiment.

It's a good question and the real concern I have about Cowher. I'm of the opinion that a head coach has a full plate without having to deal with GM responsibilities.

That being said, my perspective is that Cowher as HC/GM is 100x greater than what we currently have on staff. I'd be willing to take my chances instead of waiting for FAIL.v.2011.

Yeah, but just wait for FAIL.v.2011.1 with minor tweaks and bug fixes!

I've seen the future. We have a solid D but it still isn't enough to overcome Kubiaks many flaws. Another year of no playoffs and Kubiak is finally let go. Phillips gets Interim tag and leads team to multiple wins to end the season on a high note and is named the Texans new HC.
