Non-old-school Texans fans.

Team Gruden
I've been wanting to make this thread all season but figured I'd wait till it was all over.

I'm just wondering how many people around here are NOT fans from the days of the Oilers. I see a whole lot of talk about the Oilers and growing up in Houston but almost nothing about new fans.

Well, I'm a new fan. My family moved to Austin in 1990 when I was 6 and my Dad, who never cared all that much for football, became a Cowboys fan and I went to preseason games with him a few times. Starting around middle school I stopped paying attention to the NFL and was a really big Longhorns fan, all the way up through about 2004 and the 05 championship.

My brother, who is 4 years younger than me, started watching the Texans in their first year, and by 2004 he was a huge fan. I watched them a little in 2004 and 2005 but it wasn't until 2006 that I became a real fan. I liked them because they were an expansion team, I loved their name, they were nearby, they weren't any of the other shitty NFL teams that I already hated, and they were perennial losers. After watching the Horns win the championship I got tired of watching football where you win every single game, losing is part of what makes it interesting, so the Texans were a perfect choice (still are, hah). Starting in 2006 my brother and I have been to a game every year. We haven't seen them win since 2007. We saw the Ravens game in 08, the Jags game in 09, and the Giants game this year, and each of those years we have paid for better and better seats to watch our team get trounced.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I'm a fan of about 5 years and my brother is a fan of about 8 years. My brother is absolutely nuts about the Texans, he watches NFL network like 6 hours a day, a total football nut, and I have no problem admitting that he is a bigger fan than I am. I've got no problem admitting that all the old-school Oilers fans who buy season tickets are probably bigger fans than I am too. But the Texans are still my team, I don't watch or care about any other team, and I don't have any plans to stop now or in the future.

Any other new fans out there?

Khari = fan since 2002.....not an Oiler fan.....not raised in Houston......guess that makes me a 'new' fan too...back before the Texans I was more into the NBA... :aggressive:

I moved to Houston in 1997 and lived in El Paso before that. Was a Cowboys fan before the Texans started (everyone in El Paso is a Cowboys fan).

When I found out what football was, I started to watch the Oilers...and then they moved :crying:

On a side note, my dad still curses Bud Adams to this day for what he did to me, this city, and for football.

Grew up in Victoria, TX. It was be a Cowboy fan like my Dad or be an Oiler fan.

Sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice.

This isn't exactly what you are looking for but......I did convert a Cowboys fan to the Texans! Took him to Reliant last year for a game, now we usually always watch the games on Sunday, get drunk and try to operate my BBQ. He still watches the Cowboys but the Texans as far as I know are #1 for him now so he is new.

As for me, I'm kind of a weird story. I was born in Houston, but moved out of Houston at age 5 to live elsewhere due to my family being total **** (brutal divorce...like epic fail style). I moved out so young I really didn't care about football obviously, but I knew I was from Houston so when I started to get a little older and started to pay attention to football I was an instant Oilers fan even though I lived in the Philly area, then the NYC area then in Virginia amongst dumbass skater guys and Redskins fans.

Everyone was always amazed that I was an Oilers fan even though I moved so young I really didn't have too many memories of the place. It was hard to get Oilers gear for me back then too thanks to Al Gore not having invented the internet yet, so I treasured all the gear I was able to get. I remember sitting in my grandmothers kitchen in NJ and crying when the Oilers blew that effing lead in Buffalo (sorry to bring that up) so I was deeply attached.

When the Oilers left, guess who happened to move back to Houston that same year? Me. So I moved back just in time to never see them play a game in Houston. Due to this and my refusal to watch another team I watched literally no football except for the Super Bowl. In this time I met my future ex wife. In 2002 when the Texans started I was instant die hard fan and have never looked back. My wife at the time was shocked....she didn't even know I liked football. So it went from me never caring about anything on Sundays to having to watch the game and having buddies over etc... haha

Anyway, again, that's my story.....it had some of the same elements you had mentioned about moving and stuff but I know it's not exactly what you were looking for, just thought I'd share anyway.

I'm sure somewhere in there I proved to the supposed and self annoionted Fan Gestapo that I am true fan right guys...... :choke:

:fans:

Good thread Wagonhed. Well compared to a lot of other fans on this board, I was not around when the Oilers were in Houston. My family immigrated to the States in '97, so I was spared the trauma of the Oilers leaving town. I did not like American football at all initially, my biggest problem was that the game was too slow and stopped too frequently. I had never seen a sport where there was a stoppage in play ever 5 seconds or so. Anyway, long story short my uncle loves football and he explained the sport to me. The intricacies of the game, the chess match between the coaches, and the sheer physicality of the game, it all started to come together and I became a fan of this sport. And when Houston was awarded a new franchise I wanted to be a part of it from day 1 and I've been a fan ever since.

I always had an affinity for the Oilers and really loved the Columbia Blues (my high school's colors were classic Oilers colors). However, I didn't really watch any specific team until the Texans.

I had teams I would root for to win (Packers, Eagles, etc.) but no specific team. When it was decided the Texans would begin to play I immediately became a fan (for life). However, living in north Texas and being young the beginning of my fanhood was limited to scoreboard watching, hoping for recaps, and ultimately moved to internet streaming.

Now I am grown up and have had Sunday Ticket for the last 2 years so that I won't miss a game (I even went to a game last year). And for the last two years my local stations have shown every Texans game (those bastards!).

I'm with you here though. The Texans, while frustrating, have given me a deeper appreciate for the game of football. And without the Texans I would once again be aimlessly watching games not really having any team to root for.

You young whippersnappers , I was watching the Oilers when y'all were in diapers . To me there's two Oilers , the love you blue oilers with Bum and Earl , and the Warren Moon Oilers .

The LYB Oilers were the darlings of the city and lost twice to the Steelers in the AFC championship game . That team had Earl , Curly Culp , Robert Brazille , Elvin Bethea , Billy Johnson , and Leon Gray who were pro bowl players . The rest of the guys were over achievers . That's my favorite team of all time ... shoot ... they filled the dome twice after a loss to the Steelers in the AFC championship game to welcome the team back . That's what I want to see recaptured .

The Warren Oilers were extremely talented they had a bone head owner and a douche GM who were lucky when they found Fisher . I think if they could have hired Fisher 10 years earlier , they would have won some SBs .

I think the fans like me know what the city would be like if the Texans went on a Super Bowl run . This is the magic of sports when strangers and you have something in common and everyone is sporting Texans stuff . So every year that goes by , is a wasted year if They are not in the playoffs .

I grew up with the mentality of an old school fan. My dad, uncles, ect. are/were Houston Oilers fans. I know some of the history. I was born in 1990, and my first and only Oilers game was the last game in its history in '96.

I also was a Tacks fan, sadly. When they moved my family became Tacks fans, and I took it with me. I began to learn football fully in 1999, just in time for the Super Bowl run.

In 2000, I stopped being a Tacks fan. I was at the name/logo unveiling and from that moment became a Texans fan. My family remained Tacks fans through 2003 while becoming Texans fans.

In 2002, my dad and uncle bought 4 PSLs. Since then myself, my dad, my uncle, and my cousin (same age as me) have been going to the games.

Though, because of my age, I'm sure that would qualify me for the non-old-school fan title since I wasn't around for much of the Oilers history.

I never really had a favorite football team when I was a kid. Rooted for the 49ers, I guess, because they were always on TV where I'm from.

Then the Texans were announced, I liked the logo, the name, the stadium, etc. Loved that it was a fresh start, so I figured why the hell not?

Then it became apparent that David Carr was going to be the #1 pick, and since I'm from Fresno, it just sorta cemented it.

9 years later, Carr is long gone and I'm a Texans fan for life.

I was a huge Cowboy fan from the age of 4 (1977) until about 22-23 (Switzer era). I couldn't stomach Jerry and company anymore at that point. I was without a team for years, living in Austin. In 2000, right after my first kid was born, I heard that Houston was going to have a new franchise and I thought it would be amazing to be a part of that from the beginning and give my kids a bit of that legacy. As I researched and learned more about McNair, I got even more excited. I bought season tickets in 2001 and have been a passionate fan ever since. Perhaps I am more tolerant of losing because of how unfulfilling it was to me to root for a perennial winner in the mid 90s that I did not like/respect. People bristle when I say this, but I would rather be a fan of a likeable and respectable organization and lose than be a fan of a championship organization run by people whose character I can not respect... but, it's reality. It was a strange experience to be a huge Cowboy fan my entire life and to watch them beat the Steelers in the 1995-1996 Superbowl and be totally irritated by it... as I watched that twit, Switzer, and Jerry Jones, celebrate their success. That was the end of my Cowboy fandom: a Superbowl victory.

live in leander tx just north of austin. born and raised in galveston, made it to austin in 99. when the oilers left they were dead to me. when i see the old logo i get pissy. way i see it "she left you, another man living in your house, your dog put to sleep, etc" thank god for the texans, cool to see a franchise born. i've had cheap sets in the upper deck for four years now. i remember when i couldn't get anyone to go with me. now i got people calling games and pumped for taigating. texans are my heart and i follow the spurs.

I was born in Dallas, (something I hate to admit) and my family moved to Houston when I was two. Forty years later, I am still in Houston and still a fan.

I grew up with the Oilers and have shared the same pain with the Texans I shared with them, even being at a young age. I have two very distinct memories from the Oilers.

The first was the 1979 AFC Championship game against the Steelers. I remember like it was yesterday even though I was only 11. My parents loosing their minds at the touchdown call that WASN'T - this was the year before instant replay was established and boy could we have used it then. That game was like so many other Texans games, a question of "what if".

The second was the infamous 1992 Wildcard game against the Buffalo Bills. I was sitting on my bedroom floor, folding laundry while my husband was out buying a CD ROM for get this, THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS! I laugh because they are dirt cheap now, which dates this game. I couldn't believe what was unfolding before my eyes. How could we blow this lead? (Read familiar?)

I then remember Warren Moon appearing on the Arsenio Hall show after that game and Arsenio was like, "Man, what did you do?!?!?!?!?"

We still followed the Oilers and the last game we attended was the Sept 10, 1995 game against the Steelers.

That was the last year we had with football for 7 years. When the Oilers left, I was so disgusted that I stopped watching almost completely. And when I did watch, I gravitated towards the Colts and the mighty Peyton Manning.

When football finally came back to Houston, I was skeptical. I thought the name "Houston Texans" was stupid (at that time) but I loved the logo.

I remember my brother visiting from PA in 2001, going to academy and buying him a Texans cap. I was still leery. The Oilers had broken my heart so many times and I had felt so betrayed when they left, I wasn't sure if I could go through with supporting another team.

In 2002, we bought a ticket to see the Texans/Giants game. One of only four games we won that year and I was hooked back into football. In 2004 we bought seasons tickets and fully committed to supporting this team.

I've had my season tickets since then, and will have them for as long as I can afford to keep them.

I'm a die hard fan.

I was born and raised in Utah and attended college in Massachusetts. I grew up in a family of die-hard Broncos fans who live and breathe the team colors. In order to feel slightly less alienated, I attempted to support them. It was much easier to support the team during the golden John Elway days. But during the years of 2001 and 2002, I lost all of my interest in the Broncos.

Fortunately (or unfortunately?), I was provided the opportunity to switch my allegiance to a completely new team with the Texans' inception in 2002. And in 2006, I received a job offer in Houston which I readily accepted! I've been in Houston for 4 years now, going on 5.

It's nice to participate in a forum with likeminded individuals who share the passion as I do—even when the board is in turmoil given the recent news regarding Kubiak's retention. Thank you guys. :aggressive:

:cry2:

I stole some Steelers fan's terrible towel that day.

*******************************

Look out football, here we come,
Houston Oilers, Number One

Houston has the Oilers, the greatest football team.
We take the ball from goal to goal like no one's ever seen.
We're in the air, we're on the ground - always in control,
And when you say the Oilers, you're talking Super Bowl.

'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
Houston Oilers, Number One.
Yes, we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,
Houston Oilers, Number One.

That said, I'm just as passionate about the Texans as I was about the Oilers. I just don't tend to break as much shite as I used to. Although, there was some unfortunate business about a shattered remote control after the JAX game.

I'm 21 and I didn't really start caring about football until the Texans' inaugural season. I was 11, I think.

I grew up an Oiler fan, but I'm still too young to remember any of the old Luv ya Blue days with Earl. Spent most of my Oiler days watching the Warren Moon years. I rarely watched football after the Oilers left because I pretty much need a common thread to support a sports team, and have only really supported hometown teams.

When the birth of the Texans was announced I was on board 100%. I've only been to 1 game - The comeback game against Tenn. in 2004. This is mainly due to moving around for work for the last 8 years. I haven't lived in Houston since 2003, but I'm finally planning on moving back this spring and hope to catch a game or two. Unfortunately I can't see myself with season tickets for a while, but at least I won't be the only lonely Texans fan in the heart of Steelers or Patriots country. And yes, everyone in Boston and now Pittsburgh thinks I'm mentally unstable for supporting the Texans when I've seen Superbowl wins in both Pittsburgh and Boston while being a resident. Maybe my streak of moving and watching the home team win a superbowl will stay in tact upon my return...wishful thinking

When you get back, hit me up next year. We'll make sure you get to a game and attend one of the best freaking tailgates around :)

I'm like Khari and Yankee. Didn't grow up here, was raised by die-hard Bears fans. Didn't care much about the NFL though until the Texans were created.

I did have a random crush on Brett Favre when I was in high school. Other than cheering for my boyfriend, that's about as much thought as I put into football back then.

AWESOME! I'm pretty sure we lost that day as well. But I do remember having the BEST sausage dog I've ever had ... ahhh, dome dogs and LUV YA BLUE!

YUP!! We lost that day, 34-17.. I didn't have a Dome Dog that day, but I had plenty of Dome Foam(s). :D

I grew up just south of Boston, MA. Way back then, it was the Giants always on TV, never the Pats. So we were both Giants and Pats fans.

Then moved to the San Franciso area (ex was in the Navy) back in the Joe Montana days.

Move here in 83 but never got into being an Oiler fan, at least not in the way I have become a Texan fan. Really hated it after the Oilers left as it was all Cowboys - yuck.

Once it was announced we were getting a new team, I was a fan right then and there. Course it helps with the red, white and blue uniforms.

Born in 91 so never got a chance to be an Oiler fan...been a Texans fan since the beginning.

I'm a new fan. I don't live in a city with an NFL team so I just did some research and picked a team I liked. I really liked the David Carr to AJ connection (this was in about '04), plus the fact that the team was new. I run in to Colts, Dolphins, Pats, Seahawks and Steelers fans all the time up here, but I have never run into another Texans' fan. I like choosing the team nobody else likes.

Ok, I'm curious why Dolphins....

I've been wanting to make this thread all season but figured I'd wait till it was all over.

I'm just wondering how many people around here are NOT fans from the days of the Oilers. I see a whole lot of talk about the Oilers and growing up in Houston but almost nothing about new fans.

I didn't get into football until Jimmy Johnson won the Super Bowl. Jimmy Johnson's parents lived a few miles from my moms, so there was a big hubbub about it & all.

I watched & followed the Cowboys, but never really fell in love with them. They sure as heck would win some football games, but weren't very nice people.

This was after the Luv ya Blue days, & the Oilers weren't doing enough at that time to catch my attention.

I didn't really follow any football team until the Saints drafted Ricky Williams. I didn't watch a lot of College Football, but every now & then, someone would catch my eye.

Ricky went to the Saints... Ditka lost his mojo... Hasslette came in, Aaron Brooks, Joe Horn, Mark Fields, Darren Howard... the Saints was the first team I really followed.

Then Houston got the Texans.

I jumped in from the beginning, the Texans were my new #1 team.... but about midway through year three, I stopped watching them so much.

They fired Capers, replaced Casserly, & I felt it was a good time to buy PSLs (investment value) & season tickets.

Been going to the games & following the team closer than I've ever followed a football team before.

Then the Saints... Bush... Mario....... crap got kinda crazy... & Payton was getting rid of all the players I liked........ never got into the new players..

I've still got some cool Saints gear though.

I remember some thread about this a while back that I wrote a long reply to, but here's a shorter one.

I've never lived in Houston (though now it's the closest large city to where I live), and I certainly wasn't an Oiler fan (I was a Cowboys fan, and didn't care much at all about the Oilers). In fact, I wasn't a Texans fan either, and if anything, my attitude was negative, due to the choice of team name. In Spring 2006, though, I decided I couldn't support the Cowboys for a while, and the Texans were the natural choice for my "new" team. I became a fan about the time Kubiak was hired, so I still feel like I joined at almost the "beginning." Even though I'm now back to following the Cowboys, the Texans are still my top team...

I was born in Houston and was a Houston fan. I cheered for the Astros, Rockets and Oilers. My dad bought season tickets the year the oilers went 11-5? I don't remember the record because I was so young. I was into basketball more back then. When we lost the team I stopped watching football all together.
When we got the Texans I was excited but soon joined the Army, got out and worked 6 days a week 14 hour days, so football was the last thing on my mind. I din't start getting into football again and the Texans till 2008.
Since then, I been almost obsessed. Watching NFL Network, listening to 610(which by the way all those guys piss me off, and have stopped listening as much), and even strolling the internet for up to date info. Especially this last off-season when I thought we would sign the CB from the Patriots.
Really don't care for any other team.

Hi everyone. My screen name is "Hookem Horns" and I am an alcoholic ...

Oh wait, wrong thread. No, actually this is appropriate because the Houston Oilers made me an alcoholic. :drunk:

Born in central Texas and lived in Austin when I was real young. My first recollection of football is the Horns so I was a Horns fan from birth. One day (probably in 1975) I remember my mom shopping for clothes when I was in kindergarten or 1st grade. She held up 2 shirts and asked me which one I wanted. One had a football helmet with a star on it and the other had an oil derrick. I thought the one with the star was ugly and I instantly said no to that one. The other looked cooler and had "Houston" on it. My grandparents lived in Houston so I chose that one. My miserable fate was sealed from that moment on.

We would move from Austin to Houston in 1978 right along with Earl. Like many here the Oilers were everything to me as a kid until Bud Fired Bum. At that time I really stopped caring about the Oilers. I was rooting for the Bucs back then because I liked Doug Williams and their orange uniforms. Sometime after 1980 I was excusively rooting for the Bucs until we moved to New York in 1982. Once in New York I started caring for the Oilers again because I was just hung up on that "proud to be a Texan" thing. Of course I hated the Cowboys and wasn't ever going there. In the mid 80's I started liking the Giants because of Parcells, LT, and Simms, plus I lived up there and was becoming more of a northeasterner than a Texan. I also liked the fact they were in Dallas' division.

So to make a long story short I rooted for the Oilers/Giants. Once the Oilers left I just followed the Giants however to be honest I started losing interest in the NFL altogether. It wasn't until the Texans came into the league that I started really getting into the NFL again. I also started following the Giants more around that time especially after they acquired Eli. To this day I follow both teams. I would like the Texans to be my #1 team because I am native to this place however they are really testing me.

25 year old from New Orleans, LA. Never cared for the Oilers when I was growing up. I didn't become a fan of the Texans until three or so years ago.

The reasons I became a Texans fan:

- I love the logo, the colors, and the stadium.

- I have a few relatives in Houston, Galveston, El Paso, and McAllen. When I was growing up, me and my family often took annual trips to Texas to visit said relatives and we typically ended up driving (and usually staying) in Houston more than any of the other places on these visits. Every time I came into the city, I felt so at home, even more so than in my hometown of New Orleans. Houston has so much to offer in terms of entertainment and class. I've been so enamored with Houston that I've been trying desperately to find a job out there so I can make the long dreamed of move, but with the economy the way it is, I haven't had much luck.

- Being in the land of the Saints, we keep tabs on the Falcons pretty closely. I was very familiar with Schaub's capability but figured he'd never get a shot since he was behind Michael Vick. Low and behold, Schaub is traded to the Texans and I said to myself "This kid is going to be a great success story, and I want to watch it from the beginning." So as shameful as some people may think it is, Matt Schaub sealed the deal with me being a Texans fan. Rest assured, when Schaub is done as a Texan, I'm still going to follow the team because I've now become a fan of the culture with the team.

Sucks being in New Orleans. I like the Saints and all, but if I lived at least in Lafayette, LA, I would most certainly make that drive to Houston for the games.

I was a hardcore Oilers fan growing up. I think I owned every Oilers hat, and t-shirt ever made, lol. When they moved I did not become a Titans fan. I just rooted for whoever the Cowboys played. Then the Texans came along, and I was instantly hooked! My infatuation for the Texans is just as deep as it was with the Oilers. I will ride and die with them no matter what. :texflag:

Before the Texans, I was the original Bengals Bandwagon Fan. When they stunk I started the bandwagon on the ESPN.com message boards. Marvin Lewis was hired the next season and they turned it around. I left them in search of another team to turn around...unfortunately Bob McNair won't let it happen by making smart football decisions.

I am from Atlanta and was brought up a baseball and college football fan.

I watched the NFL casually, but I viewed the Texans as a means into true NFL fandom. This whole "bridge the gap" (thank you John and Lance) thing is making me hate the Texans. I don't care about the Oilers. I hold no nostalgia for the Oilers. Hanging onto incompetent coaches because they happen to grow up in the same city that I live in and bringing in mediocre coaches from the city I live in to flank him doesn't sell me. Bringing in coaches and players from a team that I don't care about from an era before I was born doesn't sell me.

I'm already apathetic as all get out after the way Bob's handled this whole situation. He's dangerously close to putting me beyond that.

This is a thread of how you became a fan - not a thread to rant about the team. Is every thread going to be hijacked now??

I was a die-hard Oiler fan, and I remained one even though I had to move to Dallas in the 90s to work at a defense plant. So I was the lone Oiler fan amongst all those Cowboy fans. That was OK. I understood where I was and I could put up with their bullshit.

But then 35-3 happened, and it happened the same year that the two "JJ"s won the Super Bowl. That was awhile back, but even thinking about it now makes me sick to my stomach. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, I was happy when Bud moved the team. Because they could have gone on to win the Super Bowl the following year and it wouldn't have mattered.

I know it's hard to imagine how one single football game could change my whole perspective on the game, but it did.

Where do I begin? I was born in Columbus, Ohio on a warm sunny day in August...

My dad was in the military at the time, so we only lived there for 2 years, then DC for 2 years, then settled in Cleveland Ohio for many years. My dad took me to a Browns game back in 1992 during the Bernie Kosar and Bill Belichek days. It was the only game we ever attended at the stadium, but it gave me a good reason to watch the games on Sunday with him. I even got an orange big foam finger at the game :D

I lived through the team moving to Baltimore in '95, but never really picked up another team to root for. I have always been a fan of the home teams in the city, and I don't really care for the arbitrary 'pick your own team' idea. It just doesn't suit me, because I don't feel connected to the team.

Losing your home team at the age of 11 doesn't really leave you with a whole lot of options, so I became rather apathetic towards the NFL. I still watched the Super Bowls with my dad, but never really followed a team besides always using the 49ers when playing Techmo Super Bowl (Jerry Rice was a badass!). In 1997 my family moved to Houston (The Woodlands, close enough) and well, I think we all know what happened that year. So I didn't really have a lot of NFL options.

I went to Texas A&M from 03-07. I have to admit, I really didn't care for the NFL in college, as I felt NCAA football was more fun to watch. Even if the Aggies weren't doing that well, at least I had a team I could root for and identify with. Like a good Aggie, I went to every game during college, even the most terrible ones, but it was nice to get back into football.

Upon graduating college, I took a job in Houston and have been living here ever since. I figured I would be staying here for quite some time, so I picked up being a fan of the Texans in 2008 and started following the team ever since. Now I'm happy to have an NFL team to follow, but I still root for the Browns as my second favorite team.

I'm somewhat confident that given my young age I will see either the Texans or the Browns win a Super Bowl.
:fans:

Didn't watch much football, played in High School, just never took the time to watch games unless someone else had them on... Old man got the company tickets for the Thursday Night game vs. Denver where MW went off and Texans had a pretty sick game, never looked back. Been to every home game since, and thinking about PSL's this year, depending if the market dips at all..

Born and raised in Houston

Man I feel old, especially when I read that some of you were born in 1990.

Welcome and me too-my oldest was born in '92...

I'm not a new fan. Loved Earl and the Oilers. I have and wear a beautiful Campbell jersey, along with other Oilers items to this day.

When Bud moved I was hurt and refused to follow them.
My wife is a die-hard Steelers fan, so I watched with her and rooted for them (I know they were the hated enemy for so long but damn it I love football and it made home life sooooo much better).

I was living in Germany when the new team was announced and I instantly quit rooting for the Steelers and started rooting for the currently un-named Houston team.

I visited my dad (in Humble) right after the team got its name and bought a hat. When I got back to Germany everyone asked me, "Who is that??"

It was great. I now mix in a great Schaub and AJ jersey with my Campbell jersey!

I finally attended my first Texans game this year (in Washington) and had a blast meeting some folks from here (DrKay and others).

I go to a sports bar every Sunday and am the only one rooting for the Texans but I am proud to do it!!

I know this was about new fans but I wanted to share...I'm in a good mood today, my Texans didn't lose on Sunday!!

I wonder how differently the majority of old Oilers fans react to this team vs the "new" fans. All those years of frustration followed by the ultimate betrayal pretty much kicked the "give a ****" out of me.

Don't get me wrong....I like the Texans, but I'll never have the passion I see so much of here (and used to have myself) again. I guess its fool me once.... :(

I think a lot of that had to do with the age I was when I began loving the Oilers. I don't think guys my age can really build that level of love for a sports team the way a kid could.
Plus, it was a different time then. Sport figures really were our heros as kids back then, but it's all "just a business" now... I don't think kids will ever have the level of love for a team the way we did back then. It's just too much of a business... eh, I could be wrong, Maybe I'm jaded now... maybe kids don't think about the business side of it until they grow up...
