Jeff Fisher as Texans D-Coord?

GP

Go Texans!
Would it have a chance? Would it work?

Sounds like McNair and his crew of misfits are trying to locate and hire a new d-coord as quickly as possible. At least that's what the presser comments appear to indicate to me.

Which means an awful lot would have to happen, such as Fisher walking away from the Titans, for it to even be a possibility.

Would it be something Fisher would want to do? If it happened, would it work for us?

It satisfies perhaps one of the more unique conditions that Kubiak said was set forth: The candidate must have had some head coaching background.

If Fisher becomes available he will have no less than 6 HC offers.

It's a nice thought, but has less than a 0% chance of actually happening.

I am not so sure that he goes directly back into head coaching.

That's as speculative as him becoming a Texans d-coord.

He's been a HC for an extremely long time, has had a very rough go of it over the past three years, and might not want to look at any HC jobs right away.

Coming to the Texans could give him a rest, as opposed to the rigors of being "the" head coach of a team. It could also set him up nicely as a replacement for Kubiak if McNair finds a way to fire Kubiak after next season.

Win-Win, for Jeffy.

Being the longest tenured HC in the NFL currently at 17 years, and a highly sought after candidate for many other teams (including him being on my wish list), I am willing to bet my life savings he will not take a step down to a coordinator position.

From my understanding thats not a condition for the next DC - What McNair stated was that the next DC would have experience as a DC as well as calling the defensive plays.

FWIW , I believe that if Fisher is out at possum holler he will find another head coach gig quickly.

Hmmm....

I am pretty sure the transcript that someone provided us, yesterday, had Kubiak saying the d-coord will have had some prior head coaching experience.

Translation: McNair & Smith want a d-coord who is a true coach with strong management skills; a guy who can exude confidence and get things done on his side of the ball.

I am almost certain Kubiak said that prior head coaching will factor into the equation for a new d-coord.

Well, 17 years is a long time doing one thing.

Maybe he wants to step back and gain some perspective?

He also would make a heckuva' college coach somewhere. Had USC not fouled up with all those violations, he'd have been a great fit there.

Here's McNairs quote from McLaim's article .... for what its worth.

“We need somebody who’s been there and done it, and there’s less risk,” McNair said. “When you bring somebody in who hasn’t done it (called defenses), you don’t know how they’re going to do. I don’t want to take that risk again.”

I've must've misheard him yesterday in the PC, therefore mistyped when I transcribed it  Anyhow,

(on whether he wants to hire a proven defensive coordinator) “I think that’s very important right now. I think it’s very important that whoever steps in our defensive room, as we get moving forward, comes in from a well-respected standpoint of a big background in this business, and we will do everything we can to get that best guy.”

Last week, one of the Tennessee beat writers said it would be unlikely that Fisher would be released by Bud without a clause closing the door to going to Houston.

That stinks.

I thought Fisher had a free exit if he chose to do so.

Maybe that particular condition was in the contract, though.

No worries.

I was amazed you did as much of the transctiption as you did.

It was greatly appreciated, by the way.

I would like to fire our GM and Gary Kubiak and bring in Jeff Fisher and then promptly change our name to the "Houston Oilers"! :boogie:

I agree with most people. There is no chance that jeff fisher comes to Houston to be a DC. As soon an the news comes that he is fired. he will get HC offers from teams that aren't even looking for a HC. I out this chance at .001%
