AJ:Texans rumor mill is a scary place

If you were unfortunate enough to be on Twitter yesterday then you are painfully aware of the rumors flying around on potential replacements for Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, if he's fired next week.

Mike Sherman and Troy Calhoun? Really?

Why in the world would Bob McNair think that the solution to his franchise's problems is to re-hire a former Texans offensive coordinator and friend of Kubiak to become the next head coach?

Furthermore, why would he think that the Raiders offensive coordinator would do a better job than Gary Kubiak?

The offense isn't the problem. That should be evident by the trio of Texans offensive players headed to the Pro Bowl. By the way, congrats to Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and Vonta Leach who are headed to Honolulu.

Why would McNair think that?

Let's look at rumor number two, perhaps the scariest one of all, for answers.

Lance Zierlein of 1560 The Game in Houston posted this on his twitter page around mid-day yesterday:

I think Sherman, Calhoun, and any other of the so-called candidates that were thrown out is to get the fanbase distracted. Throw out worse alternatives and get them thinking "holy sh*t this could get really ugly." Distance the Cowher talk because that's unlikely. Distance the Gruden talk because he's washed up and just a celebrity. Distract the fanbase and then hire Phillips as DC while you keep Kubiak.

The fanbase as a whole won't be happy about it but their reaction will be much more limited. Most will be thinking, "well that sucks, but it beats the alternative of the others that were interviewed."

It's all spin control right now.
