Vince is a god

After watching Vince Young lead UT to another 4th quarter comeback, I think there is a very good argument to be made that he is the best player in college football, better than Leainart, better than Bush, better than everyone else. He can obviously run the ball, he can take a pounding from linebackers and safteys, and as he showed tonight he can pass the ball. 270 yds and 2 tds against a defense that most "experts" considered one of the best in the country, on the road! Bring on OU!

This game was just a huge blow to all the Young bashers. End of story.

It's amazing how good the defense can make a quarterback look...If they hadn't held OSU to field goals after the INT's, Vince would have been the choker who blew the game instead of the hero.

Outside the picks, he did have a great game though.

Granted, I know it's a long season and just the second game. But has Young opened your eyes somewhat? Does he not display the signs of a QB? And leader? Share your thoughts.

Ok, are you kidding me? *LOL* I really don't want to say what you sound like right about now.

??? go ahead and say it...I have no idea.

OK...so I'll ask.. two INT's gave the ball to OSU inside the 25. IF OSU scored touchdowns instead of FG's and UT lost, do you honestly think everyone would be talking about his great game?? Without that D, he would be a goat right now.

Looks like you & I saw the same game...I'm not sure what game Vince Young looked like a "God" in.

Read my post about Vince in the NFL and then tell me how that foot tastes.

both teams had great defense, of the 3 quarterbacks in the game Young was by far the most dominant

was he a god? nope, but he was very very good, but there were great players and plays on both teams... college football at its best :thumbup

Look gents, I don't know what game you two saw. But the one I saw I saw a man who was beaten and thrown around like a rag doll and still overcame. You heard all week how if he had to pass to beat Ohio State it wasn't going to get done, mission accomplished. Sure, give the "D" its due. They played their butts off. But as great as that "D" played it wouldn't have meant a thing if Young wouldn't have rallied the troops for a comeback win. Give credit where it is due.

Agreed, but it works both ways...without the defense overcoming the mistakes Vince did make (and those picks he threw were TERRIBLE), there wouldn't have been an opportunity for a comeback.

My whole thought originally was that it takes a TEAM to make any one player look great, and I found it interesting that it was the defense that probably keeps Young near the top of the Heisman race. Nobody will remember those picks ONLY because the defense held, so Young was in position to win the game.

No doubt. It's a team thing. And the two picks, i'll give you the first one but the second I don't know about that one.

He led two good drives, one at the beginning and one at the end. Fortunately, that's all that was needed for UT to win the game. I'm sorry, but he simply doesn't appear to be "all that & a bag of chips" to these eyes.

Yes, he definitely took a beating, but if he's the second coming of Michael Vick, he should have been able to avoid those hits, right? **

Naww, I'm not a hater. I just get irritated when Heisman HYPE overshadows a good, but not outstanding performance. The Texas "D" won this game, not their QB. Why take away from their performance to hype Young? Does the Mack Brown "hype express" have any stops along the way?

** - Example of screaming, blatant sarcasm - for those that NEED to be told

the d played great...really really great. understand the reason why everyone is saying that he is so good. the other team was in the same situation. they were given the game on a platter and they couldn't get into the endzone. the osu qb's had the same obstacles to overcome but couldn't lead their team to the victory. the defense gets a whole lot of credit, but vince's cool demeanor is what helped win the game. the two times he tried to do too much he had picks. but when he just played ball and played wihtin himself he was very very good.

if you want to go the route that you are taking it why don't we say that the ones that really deserve all the credit to tonights win is the offensive line. they allowed vince to stand tall and make great throws all night. they get no credit. see the reason why everyone is riding v.young is because this was supposed to be the best d in the country. they have the 3 best lb's in the nation and the one of the best secondaries. ut wasn't supposed to do anything against them if they had to pass. well ut didn't do a whole lot but stick around and make the big play when it needed to be made. young threw a picture perfect ball for the game winner.

give the cat his credit. the defense had a hell of a game. i'm saying now that ut and usc will be in the nc game..who wins i don't know...but it sure will be fun to watch.

Until Leinart falters, the heisman is his. But it would be cool seeing UT vs USC.
In the meantime, we've got the ND vs. USC game coming up...ought to be fun!

Duh, so what are you saying. Every one knows if they didnt have a good D then the game would be lost, thats like saying, if the receivers had dropped all their passes then UT would have lost. The defense played good D, like they're supposed to. Vince Young made outstanding plays, like hes supposed to. He got off to a great running start, then after they shut that down, he made plays with his arm, sure he threw 2 INTs but he threw 2 TDs too, and had 270 passing yards, plus on the first INT he was under tremendouse pressure and the second onw was tipped. He still lead the team down the field and scored when he had to. He still was the only consistent specialty player on offense the whole game.Vince did it big out there and if you want to compare him to Vick, check out the game Vick played against Philly in the NFC championship game, you cant always get away.

OK, reality check time for the Vince Young :homer: out there.

Question: #2 Team on the road at #4 - This QB had a rating of 87.14
Answer: Vince Young

Question: #20 Team on the road at #3 - This QB had a rating of 96.52
Answer: Brady Quinn

Which guy is the Heisman candidate? Young was forced to pass and did an good job at it, but Dan Marino he's NOT.

Duh, so what are you saying. Every one knows if they didnt have a good D then the game would be lost, thats like saying, if the receivers had dropped all their passes then UT would have lost.
Oh, so excuses for his picks are OK, but giving PROPS to the "D" isn't? The TEAM is ranked #2 in the nation, they're SUPPOSED to be good! Save the lame excuses for his picks, ESPECIALLY the second one. It was tipped? No kidding, that's because he threw it RIGHT AT the opposing LB! (that's who tipped the ball for those scoring at home)

People, SNAP OUT OF IT! The guy is GOOD, no doubt..but he wasn't even the best QB in a big Div. 1 game THIS WEEKEND.

I hate Vince Young with a passion. I was born into an aggie family but what i saw tonight was amazing. I rooted for osu all the way but vince amazed me. He definetely helped his heisman stock tonight. Leinhart (Sp?) has the heisman but vince isn't far behind. Vince does not have near the talent behind him that they have at usc.

P.S. If UT makes it to the title game against usc i will go against my religion and root ut to a title. Better it stay in tx than go to cali.

Young did not have a great game like some people are saying. His first int was stupid, no other word. he threw it right to Hawk. His second was not much better. he threw it right to Carpenter who missed it somehow and scalley(sp?) caught it. he only got so many rushing yards because he rushed the ball 19-20 times.anybody remember the time they are inside the 10 and Young rushes the ball 3 times for maybe 2 yards? He also had help from tyhe anouncers. Young threw some bad balls that the recievers make great plays to try to get to and they say the recievers screwed up. I like Young. I think he is a GOOD player. But he is not amazing. Just my opinion.

If you guys don't see that Vince is amazing and a game changing player there really isn't any way to convince you. We all watch the same games. To just say he's a "good" player and he's not this or not that is a matter of opinion.

All I know is that I'm glad he's a Horn and not on a team the Horns play.

Here's how I saw it:

The defense won this game. The offense turns the ball over 3 times inside their own 40 and tOSU walks away with 3 FGs. Special teams constantly gives up big returns spotting tOSU near mid-field and they only give up 22 points. Without the safety near the end of the game after the offense failed to punch it in from the 1, who knows?

Young had a great game despite the 2 INTs. And when the plays needed to be made, he made them. But you didn't ever see Young having to make up for the mistakes by the defense. But it's a safe bet to say the opposite is true.

I just hope he doesn't come out early and let the Titans draft him.

The Titans would not draft him. The Titans would draft Leinart. Rememeber the Chow-Leinart connection.

What is it that Young does to stay so calm throughout the game. He's practically taciturn, he's so mellow!! I was impressed with what he could do, but Mac is not letting him run as much. He just didn't seem as magical a playmaker as he did last year in the Rose Bowl. Don't misunderstand me. The guy's an awesome player and deserves to be at the top of everybody's Heisman race. But this UT team looks all-around better than any other UT team I've seen before it. If they stay smart and healthy, they could have a legitimate shot at the title...

I have to agree with this. Vince Young played well, but he didnt win the game. The D played very very well and kept them in the game. Young thew 2 INTs, one was tipped, so you cant really fault him, the other he was going down and he lobbed it. I think his passing has certainly improved, but quite frankly if OSU gets one td out of the 3 oppertunites in the red zone the game is over.

I disagree. Young picked up 50 yards running on the first series of downs. The reaosns he didnt run much after is that OSU adjusted to him and he couldnt make the big runs, so he had to throw. OSU basically clogged the middle and dared Vince to throw. Mack wanted Young to run more, but it just was not working.

His 2nd INT was tipped because it hit the LB right in the hands.

I think Young will be a superstar in the NFL at QB eventually. He is just going to get better and he can make all the throws. He is Randall Cunningham with more skills. He is just two years out of HS....dude is going to be awesome in a couple of years.

I was refering to the comeback. Granted he made some mistakes, the first pick he was just trying to do to much, nothing to do with his QB skills, the second was a tipped ball that was caught, not much you can do about that. Meanwhile, he has mastered the 4th quarter comeback this season and the great comebacks from last season (4th and 17 against Kansas), the comback against Oklohoma State and the Rose Bowl. Leinart was put into a better situation, better revivers, great defense, but Young is the better player.

Vince just wins...that's the stat I love. Making plays when you have to (game on the line) is the mark of a clutch QB. I'd like to see a little more of that around here actually.

lol, I can't believe people trying to take anything away from Young, no he does not have the quick moves of Vick, no he might not be the great passer that Manning is, but he is what he is, and that's a quarterback with great size, great speed, great leadership, great toughness, great heart, and a very good passer. No, he's not a god, but very close. It's like somebody turned a mini version of Daunte Culpepper loose on the college ranks.

I don't see how people not annointing him a "god" is "taking something away" from him.

It's not a big deal to call a spade a spade. Had the defense not bailed him out by keeping OSU out of the endzone after his 2 INTs (and yes, both were clearly his fault), Texas would've lost the game.

It was great that they were able to come back to win because Vince went from goat to hero with a quickness. But the defense made twice as many plays as Vince did last night. They're just not getting the publicity about it.
