Dc's for hire

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
I'm curious as to a lack of post related to the new defensive coordinator?

Bob McNair will not fire Kubiak. He has proven his penchant for a passive approach. Bush will be the scapgoat despite the out cry from fans. Heres your heads up so you can start the healing process in advance.

I have 2 criteria for what i'd like to see in a new defensive coordinator:

1.4-3 guru with some name recognition to simmer the fans. (Name recognition means he's not a buddy you trust that no ones heard of- guru means hes had success.)

2. leader / public appeal
(Allow me to explain) I'm sick of the "Aw schucks." persona Kubiak has. The media recieves almost no access to the oc (Dennison) or the dc (currently bush). The voice of the Texans is basically Kubiak. He has lost the fan base so why let him continue to be the only voice? Give me a fire and brinstone personality that wont say pc things.

So who fits the bill?

Mike Singeltary
Leslie Frazier
Marvin Lewis (Mike Zimmer)
Rod Marinelli

what names can you add?

Singletary is a head coach and likely not getting fired
Frazier will likely stay as head coach in Minnesota and fire and brimstone he is not
Marinelli - is a current DC and likely would not be allowed to make a lateral move

Lewis - may be avalable if he gets fired - but I believe his background is 3-4.

John Fox may also be on his way out.

Singletary is getting fired this year..bet on it.

I'm all for Fox or Lewis.

BUENO!
I really don't think a new DC is going to somehow make this all better and if we get a sacrificial firing of Bush along with some kind of "Well, you gotta look at the circumstances...." explanation for keeping Gary I think I'm going into self-imposed exile until we get well into 2011 (assuming play and not lockout). I just have no faith at all in this team under Gary's leadership. None.

I believe that if McNair won't replace Kubiak after we lose two more games (and I fully expect us to lose two more games) then McNair won't have the stones to make Kubiak accept a DC who Gary gets no say in.

I don't think he'll do it. I think they'll hire somebody else and Gary and Rick will have input and it will be same ****, different day.

I know its a crappy attitude, but I just want somebody fired period, I want blood after this season. I know thats not very Christmassy, but there needs to be a sacrificial lamb given to the football gods. Hell they could fire the Waterboy and that would make me a little happier right now. Perhaps a public flogging, or maybe a coach or two in a stock!!!!!

I'll take a Pop-O-Matic Bubble with 6 different defensive plays on the sides of the die. It can't be worse than what we have now, and it would be cheaper than a real DC for Bob.

Just one request all 6 defensive plays keep the Secondary at the LOS instead of in the Parking Lot like the current system. I know I'm not a coach and this isn't scientific or anything, but everytime I see the CB's up on the recievers the front 7 get pressure and the QB throws an incompletion, but maybe its just me...........

Maybe we could get Gregg Williams from N.O. or Ron Rivera from San Diego, both have proven track records and might be future HC candidates.

I thought it couldnt be lateral movement for coaches from 1 team to the next? In the case of Williams, I think Sean Payton came out of his own pocket to get him to the Saints. He has a ring with them, so what motivation would he have to come here? Both would be upgrades though.

Bush remains & they bring him reinforcements via free agency & the draft. If it does not work out.... next season they all go its a package deal from HC to his assistants they stand together & if they can't cut it next year :shoot:

Seriously guys & gals what if they can turn it around? I would much rather see them do it in HOUSTON than in another city like DENVER if all we needed was one more year of experience to figure it out :)

But if there must be change for the sake of change let it be Bums kid :wadepalm:

Not getting rid of Kubiak, firing Bush and hiring a new DC is no different than polishing the brass on the Titanic as it is going down. It's NOT going to change anything.

Weren't we swapping out OC's with Dom Capers?? Did that change anything??

I always thought our team would flourish in the 4-6 defense. When I saw Mark Anderson get his sacks, I noticed he just lined up way outside and speed rushed. That gave me more impression that a guy like him could really flourish in that style defense.

Ron meeks from carolina. He was the dc in indy under dungy for all those years. They gave up yards, but didnt give up the points. Not to mention, they played alot of young guys. The d-line is set up to 1 gap really. Move smith inside next to okoye and have them responsible for 1 gap. Give the ends a upfield rush every play and tackle the back on the way to the qb. Play simple, play fast. In carolina despit a pathetic offense, their defense played well this year. Plus,he comes back to a division he knows well.

I am unaware of any college coaches that would be in the running for a defensive coordinator. I have to be missing a dozen names easy.

I feel like we have less to fix in our front 7. At times they played well. The entire secondary has to be overhauled. Lets try drafting safeties this year instead of tight ends.

If Marvin Lewis is available we could luck out and get Mike Zimmer as well as Cb Jonathan Joseph here...

I think your idea is correct that they all stay. I want them ALL fired now. I might keep Matthews as an a' coach just cause I like his ways and think he had little say in the scheme. I earlier posted I wanted Kubes to move to O. Cor. but not anymore. He allowed about half the games so far to start in the second half & that is just not acceptable. Scoring 20+ points in the second half makes me think we should get 14 - 21 in first half if we were prepared. That's a 34 -40 point game if we had all cylinders clicking.

2nd point, we need more than one significant FA (Smith and Smith) in an off season. Turn it around? Sweet dreams are made of this but I've had those every year and it is no longer my mantra. We need a hell of a draft regardless who is coaching. Problem with that, we will probably pick just out of reach of the Peterson's and Fairley's I want. I like Harris for Cb but not in the 10-12 range I have us spotted at. I'm really disgusted.

Singletary if he gets fired. Lewis, or Fox would also be pretty good I think. Nolan wouldn't work as he is already a DC in Miami, he'd need to get offered an HC gig to move, and no way would I want that guy as a HC. Not as high of Frazier but he would be okay by me. The problem will lie in whether Kubiak gets to pick, and if he's allowed to promote internally. If that is the case, then all bets are off.

what do you guys think about rob ryan?

would be good if we could get him as DC and then if kubes doesnt perform next year ryan could get promoted to the HC job.

I don't think we could get him as long as he is under contract. Didn't Cleveland get him from Oakland by making him DC/Asst. Head Coach?

I dont expect a DC change, but the Titans dline coach gets alot out of his players.
I would be okay with that. At least he will be able to get the defensive line to produce thus not putting a strain on our DBs. Hmmm, kill two birds with one stone?

At some point there has to be a sense of urgency. These are smart football people, been around the game their whole lifes, quality folks too I want to see them succeed. I beleive this is Bob McNairs stand as well.

Now they first had to restrain from spending due to some very bad contracts during Casserlys reign. Those are now inline & they've extended both Andre Johnson & DeMeco Ryans long term so they have identified prioritys, give them some credit.

Fans & media got ahead of themselves for assortment of reasons. With the schedule & off field suspensions this team was so focused on winning that first stretch, I think they went 4-2 which was excellent, it only fed expecations more & it caught up with them. This is probably a terrible analogy but for anyone who has played Golf, say your an 12 handicap but after the first six holes your even par. Well you get a little ahead of yourself & forget what got you there or just do stupid things because of nerves, your out of your comfort zone, so you boggie the next 10 holes, you've almost reached your normal round score but damn it you just know you can finish strong like you began so with the pressure off you proceed to par in for a 10 over 82, two strokes under your handicap. This is what I expect the Texans to do, they finish season strong.

Then when the collective dust settles out of the bargining sesions the Texans can go out sign a Champ Bailey & Aubrayo Franklin in free agency. When talking draft nobody pays more attention than yours truely & I can tell you it doesn't require high draft picks to be successful, just look @ New England then look @ Detroit. I'm confident I can find value in each round to help this team talent wise so you know they can do the same. Just don't want my fellow Texan fans to worry about draft position because it can be overcome with outstanding scouting work.

In short I have confidence in the Texans brain trust to do the right things to reward its fans who so richly deserve a more merry holiday season, just have to wait one more year :snowday:

The Packers have fired their DC like clockwork every year (or two) until they finally got it right with Capers. Somehow they resisted the urge to tear the whole thing up and start over - well done them.

Mike McCarthy has had 2 DCs in his 5 years as Packers head coach. Bob Sanders from 2006-2008. Dom Capers since 2009. BTW, the Packers defense in 2007 was 6th in points, 11th in yards. Zero point zero correlation to the Texans situation.

Your research=:kubepalm:

John Fox interests me, former DB coach.

He will almost certainly will get fired so he will be an option for Kubiak and Smith.

Oakland ran him out of town. Ryan was mad when Al Davis did not make him HC so he tried to divide the locker room. All he did was add to the turmoil that was going on in Oakland, now they are doing well without him.

Thanks! I didn't know. But is he an assistant HC/DC or just DC? And do you think Holmgren would even let him interview?

He is just a DC, not an AHC.

NO I do not see Holmgren using Ryan as a HC, keeping him in Cleveland is possible but his defense is #22 right now, his defenses in Oakland never were never highly ranked. He has always had the lack of talent as an excuse. He is not his brother or his father.

Right now Fox and Lewis are at the top of my list of guys. If we are going to go 3-4 then bring in Wade Phillips.

A name no one is discussing is Perry Fewell with the NY Giants, if Coughlin is let go and they hire Cowher then Fewell is probable let go also. Fewell runs the style of defense we need to run.
