Who do you fire?

You are Bob McNair and just had the owners blow sunshine up your ass after losing to the Ravens. You tell your fan-base about the praise and how we are on the right track only to see your team lose their 9th game of the season while basically quitting on the organization and fans.

You recently gave your 31-33 record head coach a 2 year contract extension.

Frank Bush was brought in by Kubiak and has your defense ranked #30 in yards per game @ 377. Ranked #32 in passing defense at 275.1 yards per game.

Your bread and butter offense can put up points in bunches, but not when it matters. They are unable to put teams away late, finish comebacks, or even build leads early. They rank #5 in total offense, #5 in passing, and #11 in rushing. While being #10 in scoring, your high flying offense is unable to overcome the defenses woes.

Do you fire everyone and pay for a 2nd coaching staff in a year where there might not be football played? Or do you watch the bottom line and let the chips fall where they may?

I firmly believe that ALL of this falls on the head coaches shoulders. He is ultimately responsible for the coordinators, position coaches, and overall game plan. He has had 4 years to simply get us into the playoffs and has failed. I think its time someone else gets a shot.

Meh I figured everyone else is doing it.

I chose "All of them" but really I don't think Dennison is the problem and in fact I'd like to see another coach come in and, assuming he felt he could work with him adapt our offense to what he wants to do. I think our offense is unfocused (dropped passes, crap run blocking at times, poor pass protection at other times) which is on the coaches but also suffering from inexplicable game plans that put them in a bad spot early in games. Bad decisions like throwing a 20-30 yard pass downfield when you only need a few yards to extend a drive you desperately need (and choosing to do that time and time again) are hurting us and have been hurting us for years. That's Kubiak being "clever" not Dennison. I don't know jack about Dennison other than that I'm sure he knows the system we run and keeping him in the short term with better direction might be a good bridge to what a new coach wants to do. Smart coaches like Dungy (or Gruden in Tampa Bay) know better than to come in and replace what works.

Good points. I agree that our game plan and preparation have been lacking. What about Frank Bush? You cant actually want him back after being blitzkrieged all year?

No, of course not. I guess what I meant was that I chose "All of them" but I really meant all of them but Dennison. I think Dennison has a chance of being a good bridge between this coaching staff/philosophy and the next one. Our offense is capable and potent. We can hang points on anybody in football but we shoot ourselves in the foot more often than not and we are soft and not particularly resiliant when adversity hits. We need to be more focused and mentally tougher.

I think that keeping Dennison might be the answer for folks who don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. If the new coach thinks he can work with him and eliminate the erratic in-game decisions that I think come from Gary then he could focus on turning the defense into the kind of unit that we saw for the last ten weeks last year and that we've seen in short doses off and on this year.

There's talent there, I'm certain of it. They're being held back by a vanilla offense and a timid DC who's trying to protect his rookie/wet behind the ears corners and save his job. This approach didn't work for Richard Smith and Frank Bush is no smarter apparently.

Reminds me (Kubiak extension) when McNair extended "he who must not be named" & we all know how that turned out

The mere fact he sold himself being able to rehabilitate "he who must not be named" was a red flag & the red flags keep coming so the question is how many red flags does it take?

All of them! Kubiak just isnt cut out to be a HC, Bush's D is atrocious, and Dennison gets axed due to association. Hire a new, proven HC, and let him hire who he pleases.

I would agree here. I dont think anyone would be opposed to wholesale changes. Any head coach worth having is going to want to pick his coaching staff. Even if it is just out with the old in with the new. Drastic changes are needed to rewire this football team to be a winner. Not just the nice guy who finishes last.
