Don't renew. I want the market flooded so that it will drive the price down and I can get them cheaper!!:)

Seriously though, I can see having a hard time for shelling out that kind of dough for the product on the field. I haven't has season tickets so each game I go to is awesome to me. Even in a loss. If I had to experience this 8 times a year for X amount of years, I would probably doubt my sanity too.

Dont do it unless serious changes are made. $4500 is a lot of money to spend on a team perpetually stuck in neutral, content with mediocrity. Actually, this team is not even mediocre. 5-9 is bad, and the ownership seems content with nearly twice as many losses as wins.

I write two seats off as a business expense, that's the only reason I'm renewing.

PSL and season ticket holders are ALMOST forced to unless you want to lose your seats and start all over again. Its a tough spot. I am going to renew, but I split my tickets with my family so Its really not that much of a burden.

But if It was just me and my wife paying, I would have to see what changes are made first before I give them my money.

It's your money and I don't have nearly that much invested in the team. I buy some tickets now and then, own a bunch of gear, and watch the games on television the rest of the time. I'm not in any position to tell you how to spend your money. Do what you think is best and don't kick yourself over it later.

If you don't, rest assured someone will be sitting in your seats next year. I get personally not wanting to invest in this team, and that's a choice you have to make individually, but I think it's silly for people to come on these boards saying "that's it, I'm not buying another ticket" like it's going to do something.

I will likely be renewing, and probably will until they price me out. It doesn't mean I'm a blind follower and there isn't a message being sent to McNair one way or the other. It's simply how I choose to spend MY entertainment dollar. Granted, not a lot of entertainment in 9 years, but still.

Don't do it just stick it to Bob that you are serious about change. Just pay billls or buy electronics with your hard earned money instead.

It's up to you...

You don't have to make a decision right now, so I would wait and see how I felt about it a bit later...

But I do think there will be a lot of folks who do not re-new, and I do not believe that there will be all these people rushing to fill those empty seats...

Do you go back to a restaurant that serves you a dog turd instead of the steak that you ordered? This is the equivalent of it.

Fortunately for Bob McNair, he implemented the scam known as PSL's, which keeps customers lining up to buy mediocrity year after year and selling it as "loyalty". Along with a tax-payer financed stadium, such a deal! (Too bad the city can't extend the same benefits to real employers like manufacturing companies. But those aren't FUN, they just provide lots of real jobs to citizens.)

It's your money, do what you want. I can't/won't judge you for it.

This is not true. The Texans are struggling to sell seats. I wish people would stop saying this.
I wish people would stop saying this. How exactly are they struggling to sell seats? They sell 70,000+ per game and have for 9 years. That doesn't sound like a struggle to me.

If you've been a season ticket holder since day 1, you've spent roughly around $40,000 dollars to watch losing football. I can think of plenty of things I'd rather spend that money on right now.

I disagree with that analogy. You've gone to plenty of movies that have sucked donkey dongs. That doesn't keep you from going to the movies.

I gave up my season tix up about 4 years ago. The quality of the team and the fact I couldn't forsee them getting better any time soon played a huge part in my decision. So far I haven't regretted making that decision.

Of course I live in Austin and can't make every game. I had to rely on selling many games and when the team sucks there are no buyers. I got tired of eating tickets.

Personally I don't blame anyone for letting go their tickets. Minus the tailgating the game is so much better on TV than in person anyway.

Also McNairs restaurant is the only one in town. He may serve you dog terds but every once in awhile you will get your steak.

After reading my post I am thoroughly discussed.

Theres something to be said about NFL Sunday ticket for $300 a season, getting to watch the game on your couch and not dealing with traffic.

Plus if you really want to you can drop some money on a game or 2 if you are in town.

Okay.

No, I haven't. Maybe you have, but I have not. I barely go to movies...maybe 1 a year, and they are always ones that I want to see.

That doesn't keep you from going to the movies.
I think 99% of all movies suck, so I don't go. And I certainly don't buy into the PSL scam that makes me renew tickets for a crappy product year after year.

There are LOTS of other restaurants in town. Football is ENTERTAINMENT. Don't forget this perspective. It is nothing less and nothing more than entertainment.

And there are LOTS of forms of entertainment to be found. So perhaps McNair owns the only Eastern Lebanese restaurant and you ordered the steak and got a dog turd, but you can still find other restaurants, just not of the Eastern Lebanese variety.

And lol at your assertion that 9 years running is "every once in awhile". This franchise, as much as I care for it, is garbage from a performance perspective. One "winning season" is nothing to be proud of (you'd laugh at any other team's fans trying to puff their chest about the same thing), and 9 straight years without a chance at the playoffs is simply putrid and pathetic.

Y'all justify spending your money however you want. It's your money and your freewill. Just quit trying to tell me that this "brownie" is edible when it's clearly a sprinkle-covered dog turd. It makes your breath smell like poop. :winky:

I don't go for the games so much as the tailgates with my friends.
I've learned that when my teams start to tank badly, I distance myself emotionally from it so I don't get sucked into a black hole of despair or anger.

So I'll be renewing my tickets so I can party on gameday and I'll just let the chips fall where they may when it comes to how well the Texans do.

So, you basically pay all that cash to drink beer and hang with your friends? I did that yesterday with my crew at a sports bar. We sat there, and had a blast for four hours and drank beer.

I love my Sunday's at Reliant, but, my fun times with friends don't mean much if the team is tanking.

OK, not you personally, good grief. I don't go to restaurants, so there. Geez, argue just to argue? What the hell is the matter with some of you people.

I don't have PSL's either. Thought that was a rip off from day one and chose not to go that route.

And yes, I believe I said it was entertainment and that it's how I chose to spend my "entertainment" dollar, but thanks for the reminder anyway. There's lots of entertainment in town as well. I choose Texans football. Yes, I'm well aware of the product, but I'd rather do that then go to the opera, or clubbing, or start a band, or whatever else there is out there that I have no interest in. I have interest in Texans football, so that's what I choose to do. Thanks for asking.

And thank you again, but I WILL spend my money however the hell I want. I also believe I will give any opinion I feel like giving regarding brownies that taste like dog turds or whatever the case may be on this open forum that exists to express such ideas. Your condescending nature be damned.

The memories that we have made with Blue Crew this season has been absolutely worth the price of my season tickets times two and I ain't really too big on tailgating... I just found my friends is all it was and I'll travel wherever to visit my friends.

I just wish I lived closer so these gameday hauls wouldn't be so tough on our overall tailgating experience. We sometimes leave as early as 3:30am and make it home as late as midnight. Toss in that I am an extremely loud fan during the games. We exhausted and broke... then we go to work/school in the am... it becomes totally worth it when we scan BullpenPhotos the next day and smile at the memories preserved.

Fair enough. I'm a big believer in having memories with friends/family. They're important bonding moments that you will always have.

I've had some fun times at Reliant, but, unfortunately, money doesn't grow on trees. I have to decide if I'm going to renew or not. I'm leaning strongly towards not.

My hesitation is that I'm not sure if McNair understands/appreciates that his team is a catalyist for people like us as an important experience with friends/family.

My "condescending nature" is nothing but sarcasm. Sorry you seemed to have lost your penchant for getting my sarcastic nature. It used to get me rep from you. I don't feel like a bright and shiny fan for a 5-9 team. Sorry if sarcasm is my way of venting the frustration for a perpetually crappy football team.

I guess shelling out so much money year after year becomes something to defend to the point of alienating friends. Whatever, man. I could care less if you choose to waste your money on this garbage team. I don't judge you for it and more power to you. I might still be doing the same if I could afford it, but I would not be delusional and blow smoke up everyone's butt to defend my decisions.

I'm not arguing to argue. YOU quoted my post, remember? If you did not want to engage me in discussion, then don't bother to directly quote my words. Otherwise, you're just being obtuse by whining about my reply. I thought you could hang with it, but obviously it's struck a nerve.

Indeed, what the hell is the matter with some of you people...

My story - not meant as advice - just take it for what it is.

I sold my PSLs this year and was seriously depressed.....for maybe a month. I loved my seats, I loved going to the games even though it was a 1 1/2 hour trip one way. Sometimes I would spend the night in Houston before or after a game and that helped. After last year's Mon Night Game, I got home around 0200 and had to work the next day.

When I received my renewal notice, I discovered that my ticket price was higher than my property taxes. Now, I live on the lake and property taxes have quadrupled in the past few years so this is nothing to sneeze at.

Being retired now, I decided that I couldn't really afford to spend money on ticket prices, travel, tailgating and gear. I honestly thought we might have a shot at the playoffs but still wasn't convinced so I let the PSLs go.

In return I received a new flat screen 60" HDTV with a surround sound system, a new front loading washer and dryer, a new recliner that I love, a cabinet tv stand and nfl sunday ticket with money left over for boat insurance and a dent in the property taxes.

I can use all of those things (except sunday ticket) all year - not just 10 sundays a year. I do still miss being at the games. I do not miss the depressed drive home at all. I do not miss the depression that follows after a loss. I'm still upset but watching on TV gives you a little separation that takes away the suicidal tendencies. Now I recover in a day - when I went to the games it took a good two days. I still fly my flag every game day, get dressed in all of my gear, and tailgate in my yard.

Life is a trade off. Keep the psls - don't keep them - I think it depends upon your priorities, your financial situation, and your desire to be at a game. For me, the drive to see a team lose outweighed the fun. It became a chore.

I do not have that kind of $ to spend on the Texans, so i don't think i am the best person to ask. But, in my opinion, I don't like the idea of being a season ticket holder. I like the idea of going to 1 game a season, but I would rather spend the money on a nice TV, sound system, and then watch the game with friends from the comfort of my home. I make my own food, sit in a comfortable chair(as opposed to a stadium seat) and never have to worry about some jackwagon being dumb around me.
I can pause the game anytime I want with my TIVO too.

But, again, that's just me.

I will renew! Football is a GAME, a game I have enjoyed for almost 60 yrs. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I seem to draw the losing card quiet a bit! BUT, overall, I love watching the game unfold in person. I'm one of those that detest watching football on TV, you can thank John Madden for that! Anyway, it's part of my entertainment package each year. I adjust accordingly by not traveling as much. I don't go to as many concerts or movies as I use to, I work a couple extra shifts each pay period starting in Jan to pay the huge price for my favorite entertainment. It's a choice, and one I have never been sorry for, even after a disasterous year like this one. After so many years as a fan of the NFL I have learned to take one game at a time and just go from there. After a horrible loss, or season, I go through a grieving process, then my optimistic side kicks in and I start believing, once again.

TEXAN for life!!!

Problem with this line of thinking is that its flawed - Sure your ass in the seat puts some money in their pockets but thats just a drop in the bucket when compared to TV deals and advertising dollars not to mention revenue sharing.

Bottom line , this team could have attendance on par with that of Jacksonville and they would still show a profit.

If you enjoy the experience of Reliant on gameday and prefer it to other forms of entertainment that you could spend your hard earner dollars on - Renew.

If not .... watch them on TV and spend your entertainment dollars elsewhere.
