My story - not meant as advice - just take it for what it is.
I sold my PSLs this year and was seriously depressed.....for maybe a month. I loved my seats, I loved going to the games even though it was a 1 1/2 hour trip one way. Sometimes I would spend the night in Houston before or after a game and that helped. After last year's Mon Night Game, I got home around 0200 and had to work the next day.
When I received my renewal notice, I discovered that my ticket price was higher than my property taxes. Now, I live on the lake and property taxes have quadrupled in the past few years so this is nothing to sneeze at.
Being retired now, I decided that I couldn't really afford to spend money on ticket prices, travel, tailgating and gear. I honestly thought we might have a shot at the playoffs but still wasn't convinced so I let the PSLs go.
In return I received a new flat screen 60" HDTV with a surround sound system, a new front loading washer and dryer, a new recliner that I love, a cabinet tv stand and nfl sunday ticket with money left over for boat insurance and a dent in the property taxes.
I can use all of those things (except sunday ticket) all year - not just 10 sundays a year. I do still miss being at the games. I do not miss the depressed drive home at all. I do not miss the depression that follows after a loss. I'm still upset but watching on TV gives you a little separation that takes away the suicidal tendencies. Now I recover in a day - when I went to the games it took a good two days. I still fly my flag every game day, get dressed in all of my gear, and tailgate in my yard.
Life is a trade off. Keep the psls - don't keep them - I think it depends upon your priorities, your financial situation, and your desire to be at a game. For me, the drive to see a team lose outweighed the fun. It became a chore.
