Hey Bob McNair! Do you still think this team is on the right track?

I'm done criticizing Gary Kubiak, it's clear he's in over his head and can't help the fact that he sucks as a head coach...same with Frank Bush. The problems with this team are no longer their fault. The man who acts like the current status quo is perfectly acceptable and the man who keeps these absolute incompetent coaches employed is the MAJOR problem with this team.

Wake the hell up BOB. You are currently one of the biggest suckers in professional sports. You might as well be Matt Millen and I no longer want to hear from Kubiak, I want to hear from you, because you are the one who's responsible for all this crap. You are the reason why this team underachieves every year. Vince Lombardi told his team that they were going to pursue perfection even though it was unattainable, but if they went for it they would reach excellence...

Well you act like you're just trying to pursue "respectability", but along the way you're grabbing mediocrity....actually you aren't even grabbing that this season. RAISE THE DAMN BAR BOB! This team is never going to turn around until you start holding people's feet to the fire and stop coddling your damn team!

McNair would have done well to not make any comment this past week. It will only have forced his hand to make additional comments this week or leave this whole city a laughing stock of the NFL.

The Titans MB is already having fun at our expense. [indirectly courtesy of Mr. Texan]:

Agreed. I'm hoping it forces him into dumping Kubiak.

I think these type of threads should be reserved for next year, if Kubiak is still the HC. Until then, we can't really call Bob a sucker, can we? Obviously this is just my opinion, and not everyone shares it, but bringing back Kubiak after last year was OK. We went 9-7 and were a few mistakes away from being even better. I thought if we could clean up those mistakes then we would be in a good place. Now it is apparent that those mistakes are a part of this coaching regime and they are not going to go away. So, Kubiak should be fired.

IMO, if Bob fires Kubiak after this season, he will have handled the situation very well. If not, then I will change my opinion on Bob.

A lot of us thought Kubiak sucked last year and should have been fired. The Texans had a cream puff schedule and still couldn't win when it mattered. The crap has just been piling up so high that it is finally visible by the masses.

You know what this post made me think of?

After all the heartbreaking losses over the years, I'm almost positive this wasn't his first "moral victory" speech to the team. That would be too much of a coincidence. I think it's just the first one that he went on the record and talked about.

I bet you that after losses like last week, McNair has been in that locker room giving PLENTY of "attaboys" out and pats on the back. There's only a few players on this team that seem to really care about whether they win or lose or eat, sleep, and breath football. The other ones are just complacent and have the best gig in the NFL. The Houston Texans... Where wins and losses don't matter, only moral victories. If our "kids" fought hard and gave their best everything is fine, because that's all that matters here in Houston.

The only thing that's "on track" here, is engineer BOB's gravy train, because that's what the Texans are.. The gravy train of the NFL. Who the hell cares if you're Steve Slaton or Matt Turk and you absolutely suck at your job.....hop on the gravy train...we'll keep letting you suck at your job, because wins obviously don't matter to this owner.

I agree with you, there were plenty of people who wanted Kubiak gone last year, but there were also a lot who wanted one more year for him. I think that Bob has shown he is a very loyal person, and if a fan base is split 50/50 (approximately) and keeping or firing, Bob is going to choose keeping. Now that almost everybody wants Kubiak gone, Bob will have a different kind of decision to make.

For me, If he STILL chooses to be loyal to Kubiak, then I will be quite upset. Until then, though, I don't think any negativity towards McNair is really warranted.

Some more blame should directed towards Rick Smith... In my honest opinion.
This team has been falling flat on their collective faces way before Rick Smith got here. I'm now convinced that the main problem with this team isn't Smith or Kubiak, it's Bob McNair.....he accepts and coddles mediocrity and he breeds complacency (he did exactly that with David Carr and he's doing it now with this team), there is absolutely no sense of urgency with him or this team and the problems we have with this team trickle down from the top.

They both need to go. Kubiak has final say on personnel and the talent sucks. Smith works with him and for the same reason his ass needs to go too. We need a gm not a ****ing yes man.

Actually, I think you have that backwards. The HC works for the GM, but in this case neither of them is working.

Yeah, but the strange thing about this relationship is that Kubiak pretty much hired Rick Smith. At this point I don't care about either...both need to go.

Why do we feel the need to vilify everyone?

I have a lot of respect for Bob McNair and can only imagine that his pain is a multiple of 100 magnitude compared to mine.

Nobody is happy. But nobody is evil either.

Capers didn't work for Casserly either?
Nope. The team fell apart because of political squabbles between coaching and management. Had Casserly had any control, he could have cut out some cancers in the coaching staff.

That's interesting. So management and coaching are 2 separate departments. I wonder where Bob McNair got the idea to run the team that way.

Unbeknown to many, McNair has had an "iron hand" with decisions on all levels. Unlike Jerry Jones, it has been kept relatively low profile............separate from the facade the public sees.

It goes farther than that. I believe McNair is the worst kind of boss to work for. The kind that tells you that you have total control over your job.

Then when it comes time to make a big decision McNair steps in and says I know I told you that you had total control but I'm going to make this decision. But you still have total control. LOL

This undermines the trust, authority and overall structure of the Texans organization and also is a major contributor to the 9 yrs of failure within this organization. IMHO

Do you mean because Kubiak is still here or because of personell?

Smith has brought in good players through the draft, with the exception of this year. Good teams build through the draft. I don't think Kubiak is his call, although I think it were fully decision, he'd keep him.

It leaves the final indecision to him.
I can't believe what I'm reading. So Bob McNair really runs the organization....wow.

I thought this whole time he was just the nice old guy that opens up his wallet and signs the checks....

.....most importantly, I thought he was the nice old guy that didn't need to deliver results because he brought the NFL back to Houston.

Cue up Clay Walker.

So we said hi to Uncle Bob as he and his possy came onto the field...and at the end of the 1st, as they were walking off we were chanting for Cower, Gruden, a winner. Kubiak...well, he walked on the field by himself, head down, with a completely defeated look on his face before the game even started. There was a lot of yelling on the sidelines after certain plays consistant with players getting pissed off after crappy play...I guess that's both good and bad. What I can attest to is that pretty much every player was hanging their heads and mumbling under their breath pissed off. It doesn't mean a whole lot after the fact, but unfortunately it was nice to see them pissed off after the loss. Briesel was really pissed off as he walked off the field.

This season is sooooo over...but we'll still occupy 4 seats for the last game. As bad as it is...me, my wife and the two boys will still try to take the high road, and hope that they get to see a win.

Hopefully Bob will make the necessary changes to improve over the off season. I expect him to make the changes in a classy way to help all those envolved save face...but there is no way (as a business man) that he can not see the writing on the wall.

Not to try to derail this topic or anything, but due to all the fans that are pissed off enough to not come to games, the ticket prices were much lower than normal and I was able to get tickets to finally go to my first game. I take it this is not usually what people mean when they say to try to find the bright side of everything, but still - I have never had the chance to go to a game before, so I am excited to see a game in person finally, even if we have not had the best of years. I was given the tickets as a gift - on the 35 yard line behind the Texans bench - but since I am new to the whole Texan game thing, if anyone has any advice or things I need to know, please pm me and let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.

I think AJ should get involved in the process. Maybe Bob will hear his best player.
The look on AJ's face during this latest debacle told me that he's about had it. Expect Johnson to request a meeting with McNair after the season.

I think it was the movie 'Rounders' where the line was 'if you look around the (poker) table and can't spot the sucker, it is probably YOU.'

Hey Bob, when you were sitting there at the owners table, looking around, and listening to the other owners tell you how your team was so 'close' and 'contenders', were you able to spot the 'sucker' at the table??

No, you didn't see him??

Why do people get so offended when you criticize a sports team for failing to perform up to expectations? The team plays like crap, when you call them on it somehow YOU are the asshole.

If you spend a ton of money on a car or some sort of other product and it didn't work as planned would you keep your piece of **** item or take it back and complain? How is this any different?

You could very well end up in a Barry Sanders situation with a guy like AJ. Classy HOF players with the misfortune of landing on mediocre teams who did and MAY retire before they really are ready to.

Unless something drastically changes, he will be this generation's Barry Sanders. Hell, he'll be worse than that....I believe Barry atleast made it to a NFC championship game and went to the playoffs 5 times, we can't even get Andre to the postseason and he's only had one winning season in his career.

AJ took McNairs's $$$$ and playing on a crappy team is the price he has to pay.

He made his bed now he has to lie in it. Dont feel sorry for Dre' he knew the score when he signed that big contract.

He took the money yes...and he's stuck with it. He's also getting paid the money he deserves, and he's gone above and beyond by playing through his injury. So yes, it does suck for him to put forth the effort that he does only to have crap surrounding him every in the huddle and on the sideline. He's doing what he can to make the team better...this off season the boss better do the same.

Andre didn't "make this bed" (he's being forced to lie in it, but he certainly didn't make it) and in no way in hell did Andre think he was never going to win when he signed that contract. He believed in the team and he believes in this franchise, that's why he signed.

If we can't turn this around, I'd certainly be open to trading Andre Johnson to a winner.
