The Dynamic Duo Have a Chance at History

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster and WR Andre Johnson have a chance to become the third pair of teammates in NFL history to lead the league in rushing and receiving yards in the same season, reports Nick Scurfield, of HoustonTexans.com. Foster currently leads the league with 1,330 rushing yards, 52 ahead of Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew. Johnson ranks fourth in the league with 1,158 receiving yards, 61 behind league-leader WR Roddy White, of the Atlanta Falcons.

Amazing that AJ is just 61 off the league lead after sitting out so much and hobbling around the field like a cripple when he wasn't in the locker room getting checked out.

Dude is BEAST!

As opposed to the nellies around here who are wanting the Texans to lose out to see a coaching change or get a higher draft pick I wouldn't mind the Texans focusing on AJ the last three weeks to get him into the history books. He has a chance at two records. Only one other WR has ever lead the league in receiving two years in a row, none have three. Only one other WR has back to back 1500 yard seasons, none have three. Screw it. Force him the ball. We know he owns the Tacks. Drop a 207 on them again AJ.

...and against the Titans in Tennesee would be the perfect place for it to happen, especially while being followed around by a chump like Finnegan. I hope A.J. lights him up like an Aggie bonfire.

I doubt he gets a pass second time which wipes out any chance for the dynamic duo :kubepalm:

In the last 4 games against the leprechaun, AJ has 34 catches for 490 yards and 5 TDs.

Didn't Schaub lead the league in passing and AJ in receiving last season? Now the Texans have a rushing leader.

Only Kubiak can have all of that and still not win and make the playoffs every season.

Forget about all of the worthless stats, I say concentrate on getting valuable game-day experience for the younger players who we want to keep on our roster, maximizing the value of draft position, and keeping our most valuable players on the sidelines in these utterly meaningless games to protect their health and longevity for future games that really count for something.

I understand where you are going with this but, it ain't gonna happen.
First the players want to play...regardless of what we think.
Second Kubs will let them play-otherwise he will lose his good 'ole boy image of being a players coach.

Does Kubiak not get any credit for MAKING them the number 1 rusher/receiver/passer? When those players succeed, it's all on them, but when the team fails, it's all on Kubiak?

Sure he does which makes it even worse that he can't win with them. Give a good HC those elements and they are taking their teams to the playoffs almost every season.

To the first part of your question players are not succeeding if they are not winning. I don't care what the stat sheet says. To the second part of your question, yes.

Can't we have both?

For the record, if it meant a head coaching change, this nellie would be all for losing out. I don't give a squat about draft position. There are enough squandered lottery picks on this team as it is.

The thing is, with a new HC, there's no guarantee that he CAN continue to maintain those elements. For all we know, with a new HC, the offense will flounder. So yes, in a perfect world, give the elements under Kubiak as they perform under Kubiak to another HC who can bump them up to winning, give me that HC. But for all we know, we can get a new HC who can't utilize Foster or Schaub in the way that they've been sucessful in the past.

That being said, I'm all for seeing a new HC.

On another note, how much of Foster's success do you guys think is because of scheme? It's not often that a UDFA comes in and becomes the leagues leading rusher in his second season. I really hope that, should we get a new HC, Foster continues to perform at an elite level.

Little. This same line and scheme produced next to nil prior to Foster. Now, it's the scheme that created the league's leading rusher? I don't think so.

It's garbage time. Since Foster's in a contract year... time to drag him down and throw it to Andre all day long!

Lol.

Just win, Texans.

acronyms suck buddyboy. we play acronym bingo in meetings at work. spell it out so us poor dumb MF's can understand what you're trying to say. JMPODAHO (just my poor old dumb ass humble opinion)

and hell yes, keep the ball from Foster. 3 carries for 13 yards ought to about do it. we need to try and save Bud some $$$$.

The Texans have pretty much nothing to play for except "pride"....

They might as well get the ball to AJ, and Foster. It will at least give me something to root for watching the games. I want them to win, but the records are a cool incentive. :texflag:

The offense is floundering & has been floundering.

We can't score unless we're down by 20. We can't stay on the field unless we're down by 20.

The offense has been floundering all year long.

This is true. The only exceptions were the first Indy game (when we had something to prove), the Charger game (when we got a quick turnover), and the Tacks' game against a rookie QB. Otherwise, we've been very inconsistent offensively. And even in the Chargers' game, we couldn't close the deal.

Spot on CAK!!! Spot on!!!!

The scheme also made Slaton look amazing two years ago, but I agree, Foster most likely has a huge impact on the run game. I really hope that with change there isn't an impact on how well we can run the ball.

The only acronyms I used were HC (Head Coach) and UDFA (undrafted free agent). I really didn't think that was that hard.

Really? I would think the Texans over the past three years would be a textbook on the OL counting. Slaton was a hero one year and a zero the next. Yes there was an injury but the gaps provided or not were glaringly different. Foster is good. Not taking anything away from him at all but the OL has been doing a great job this year. Look at Ward and Slaton's YPC. Seems to me both are pulling thru OL and the RB's and yes Foster looks like the real deal.

Bravo!!

In a season that means nothing now, it'd be nice to see AJ get some records because we have nothing else to look forward to.

buddyboy's inference was that perhaps Foster was a success due to the scheme or the ability of the o-line. That Foster might be another example of the plug-n-play RBs that the Shanny-Kubes Broncos deployed in the past. I'm not suggesting that Foster could lead the league in rushing without an o-line. Just that he could be a success in any scheme behind any competent line.

Actually, this year's addition of LG Wade Smith (rather than Kasey Studdard in '09) has been a major improvement. And maybe not the scheme, but the coaching and commitment to the run has improved since Dennison came aboard. But, none of it would have worked with Ryan Moats or Chris Brown carrying the pigskin. Everything works once you add an Arian Foster to the mix.
