I know some of yall don't like his work, but he put a great stat in his piece.

"The Texans have gone from the bad old days under Dom Capers, when they were 5-7 after 12 games (in 2003 and 2004), to today, when after 12 games they are, um, 5-7. As they were last year. And the year before that. And the year before that."

That tells us a lot. Take the 2 win season out. But the 2 years previously, Capers had the team to 5-7 after 12 games in 2003 and 2004. Those teams ended with records of 5-11 and 7-9 respectively. In 2008/2009 they finished 8-8 and 9-7 respectively, and this year looks like another 7-9 season.

JS makes the point that we have basically not improved and that whatever wins we have are at the end of the season. The fact that we are winning late, tells me the players still play for the coach. BUT, it also means we are winning essentially meaningless games. This was a prime year to take the division. The Colts are down, the Titans are in shambles, and the Jags are beatable. In addition, our D let us down in 4 games that we should have won. We should be a 9 win team right now thinking about not the playoffs, not the division title, but a potential first round bye.

That right there tells me its time for Gary to go. We need a real head coach and not a glorified offensive coordinator.

wow...nine seasons and SIX of them have been 5-7 at the 12 game mark...that's just....sad.

The current Texans team would beat the 7-9 Capers' Texans 99 times out of 100.

That doesn't mean Kubiak should stay but it's true.

You are probably right. Those Capers teams weren't as good as this team is.

That said, the defenses were a bit better.

Could David Carr have a good day against this secondary?

The question is.....could our secondary hold down a younger Andre Johnson? I think Capers' Texans would do a little better than some might think.

A bit would be accurate. The only year the D was even decent under Capers was 2002.

No. HWWNBN would have 8 sacks and 3 picks. Half the sacks would be running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage. Schaub, AJ and Foster would make it look like pitch and catch on the way to a 52 point game. The current Texans haven't arrived but they are miles ahead of that team.

Hey cut me some slack, "pal". I am new to this forum and don't know everyone's signatures and posting history by heart. I found an interesting stat and decided to post it.

Am I supposed to aquatint myself with everyone's signatures and posting history before I post?

Talented or not, I just don't know if these current Texans could perform that consistently that many times out of 100.

Hang in there man, it is an eye-opening statistic of which alot of us have been aware of unfortunately. Just some ribbing from the ole timers. Keep posting, you're doing fine.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Just because the records are the same doesn't mean that absolutely no progress has been made if you look at some things specifically and not the big picture.

The fact that we're even having conversations as to whether or not Kubiak's Texans could even beat Capers Texans as an attempt to compliment Kubes. Lol!!

2008: 8-8
2009: 9-7

2010: 5-7

Kind of ridiculus what this fan base has been reduced to. It's almost like we've accepted our fate of always being mediocre.

Quick edit: What also sad is that mediocre is one of those words I've always struggled to spell, yet thanks to this team forcing me to spell it, I can spell it in my sleep.

The point of Solomon (and I assume the OP) is not just that Kubiak is 5-7 for the fourth year in a row, it is that Capers - universally agreed to be a failure - was also 5-7 for two years and that Kubiak is zero improvement over Capers.

A constant drumbeat any time Kubiak is criticized (or analyzed honestly) is "Now wait a minute. Look how far he has bought the Texans. They only won 2 games before he arrived, and he got them to the 6 to 9 win range in only one, well two, well three, well four, well OK five years!" OK, they had a bad year in 2005 - they were 7-9 the year before that and Kubiak has never made much improvement on that.

So no, there aren't enough threads about it as long as people keep pretending like the pre-Kubiak Texans never won more than two games. So yeah, this is new information (at least to radio talk show hosts in this town). And Dexman, I keep missing the 5-7 in 2003 and 2004 in your sig.

Talent wise this is true. But the fact that Kubiak can barely beat Capers record with that much talent shows how much worse than Capers he is as a coach. Which we all thought was setting the bar pretty low...

Frankly, I've always thought that Capers' got scapegoated. If the Texans had the level of talent then that they do now, I would think they would have made the playoffs under Capers'. After all, we are talking about a guy that in two seasons took an expansion team to the NFC championship. Unfortunately, that's all irrelevant now. The best we can hope for is that McNair doesn't find a way to downgrade from Kubiak.
