Super Mario's F the defense draft.

Blake

MMQB
Seeing as how Frank Bush couldnt scheme his way out of a wet paper bag, I am not wasting a single draft pick on his sorry ass. He can get his players in FA or off the street for all I care.

Round 1: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia - Sure hands and consistent. Everything we are lacking from Jacoby Jones. BIG play ability. Dominates in the NCAA. Green should be a top 5 pick. Assuming the Texans are #10 they would have to give up their 3rd and 4th round picks. But just to make it easy I am going to overpay and give up our 2nd.

Round 2: Traded away.

Round 3: Quizz Rodgers, RB, Oregon State - Slaton is a shell of his former self. Time to bring in a burner. Also help in the return game.

Round 4: Steve Schilling, G, Michigan - Can always use a big ugly from Michigan.

Round 5: Colin Kaepernick, QB, Nevada - Schaub is our QB, but there is no reason to take a flyer on a prolific college QB.

Round 6: Derek Epperson, P, Baylor - Big leg. Time to put Turk out to pasture.

Round 7: Kyle Hix, OT, Texas - The obligatory player from Texas pick. Not expecting much. Just some depth or practice squad fodder.

Quizz is not coming out next year...his brother James is going to be able to play a 2nd senior season b/c he was put on IR too early in the season, but its a nice thought.

I blame some of our WR issue on Schaub and the Oline and would not use a first on WR let alone give up a second.

RB: Foster and Ward should be fine and Tate should give you speed in a big back body. I could see going for a Slaton type in UDFA.

Wasn't sure if he was coming out or not.

I was considering a 3rd on Pettis, but Green is the best WR ive seen in awhile in college ball. I figured if the Cowboys can spend a 1st on a WR when they have that much money tied up in their 2 starters, that we could do the same.

Well there are a million ways to go. Just have to see what the HC thinks.

I wouldn't mind a WR. Either Green or Julio Jones will be there.

Especially after passing on Dez Bryant for Jackson.

If OD is washed up, KW is not the answer at the No. 2 spot

Good point. I also though about Kyle Rudolph. I have seen him high 2nd. Mostly due to the injury. Dude should end up a first rounder after the combine no doubt.

I am not that high on Julio. I would give a #1 and #2 for Green vs. a #1 for Jones.

Guys we are scoring 30 points a game and losing. Hadn't we better address that? This plan is not working for the Rockets either.

We are averaging 24 points a game. We are giving up 29 points a game. IMO It aint the players on defense at this point. It is our coaching and defensive philosophy.

Ah, but it is the philosophy to draft bump CBs and safeties that can hit but not get close to a WR. 24 PPG should be plenty. I just don't see how you can watch yesterday's game and be happy with our DBs. Sure Bush needs to go but that is only part of the problem. Change to a 3-4 defense and get a great NT and FS and we'd be on the way to playoffs.

Build on your strength and overcome your weakness.

There are no Eric Berry or Earl Thomas in this draft (correct me if I'm wrong), though DT is pretty deep.

If we can get a rookie WR like Dez that makes plays on special teams and offense, I don't see how you pass that up. The Texans need veteran corners, not more young ones.

Your draft is NOT that bad, Green gives us a solid WR who can make plays with Schaub throwing floaters to him in the endzone. Having Andre Johnson take Green under his wing could give us two deadly weapons reminiscent to the Oilers days when we had Haywood & Co.

The guy from Nevada can run, if he can throw on the run, even better! Gives us a good developmental guy. As for Schilling, he plays with a mean streak and although he's not as good as Steve Hutchison was, he can still open up holes and drive defensive linemen ways back.

I think Kyle Hix is a waste of a pick and would much rather take a RB like Helu from Nebraska (although he might go higher). Unless Hix want's to slide inside and play OG, I don't want him at tackle.

I have been arguing with friends about this for awhile. I think over the last few years we have spent several more draft picks on defense than offense. It just doesnt seem to be working to me. I really think Kubiak needs to invest a few more high round draft picks in the offense to truly make it elite. It seems no matter what we do we cant stop anybody on defense. If AJ Green is there when we pick its a nobrainer.

There are at least three shut down type corners that would make our current FS look much better. Also keep in mind that our FS has not been assigned to back up our KJ. Wilson is allowed to roam which is perfect if you have a corner that can cover but we don't. Those corners mentioned are in first round and another Colorado's Jimmy SMith is on my bye week mock in second. If we drafted a lock down CB and moved KJ to safety or even #2 cb our roster gets stronger.

I guess I simply dont agree that drafting a rookie CB to be your #1CB is going to make your defense better. There is no such thing as a lock down corner in the NFL of 2010.

I think New York and Darrell Revis and his recent bank deposit would disagree with you.

I will agree that Revis is the best CB in the league. BUT I think that Revis definitely benefits from the defensive scheme and pass rush he plays with. He is still susceptible to Randy Moss deep.

Also McNabb just got paid, so I am not worried about Revis' contract.

Interesting proposal. Would you rather have McNabb or Revis for Texans?

Obviously Revis. I was just trying to make a point that getting paid doesnt mean all that much to me.
Please do not take it I was attacking or trying to put you in a spot. When you mentioned McNabb's recent signing for way too much money, the scenario came up. I think Donovan is singing "Sunshine came softly" today. I heard initially he had a $40 million guarantee but last night it was supposedly $10 m.Nowonder he said little about the two minute drill comments by his coach. He was nodding his head knowing he was headed to the bank with his piggy bank.
