Bret says he will not return next year per espn bottom screen ribbon. This dude needs to be put down so the rest of the NFL can move on.
'eh, dude still has game in him. I can't hate on him for that, and it's not my team that's in the spotlight.
George Blanda was lucky that he didn't have the 24/7 news cycle/ESPN/NFLN when he was playing in his 40's.
Did Blanda ever retire/unretire/retire/unretire/retire/unretire and then use his retirement as leverage for more salary and perks and have coaches flying down to ride on his tractor?
We don't know, because the media didn't do things the same way back then, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say probably not.
Who knows what he was thinking at the end of his career, though, because we didn't have reporters camping at his gate and rooting through his garbage.
I could honestly care less about Favre because it doesn't effect me. I enjoy watching him play ball, like his enthusiasm for the sport, and appreciate seeing a HoF player while we still have him. Life is short, so it's only a matter of time before he's gone from the NFL for good.
I guess I just don't understand the impatience with it, especially when my team has bigger issues that we are supposed to sit on as "good fans". But haters gotta' hate, I suppose.
For me, it all boils down to one simple thing: if I want to see or hear about Brett Favre on my TV, it needs to be on the field, playing football. All the extraneous drama is just garbage, and while the media is responsible for it, there are things Brett Favre could do to mitigate the problem. Instead, he thrives on the drama.
Drama. Queen.
I think the soap opera might finally end if someone offered this man a job as a QB coach. He could stay with the game without worrying about his physical prowess.

It's like the Lebron James thing. If he wants to change teams, good for him. No one outside CLE would really hate him or like him too much because of that decision. Do the whole diva act on national TV and all of a sudden people think he's an asshat. Like that wasn't predictable.
Bret is fully aware of the media circus he createsThere is no one that has created so much drama as to if he plays or does not play. Minnisota took a gamble and it paid off for a while but the Circus started and as soon as he gets hurt he starts it for next year. You cannot put his Drama on the Vikings or the Packers it is all Favre and he was well aware that ESPN would sensationalize his every move. I gurantee he would have one to the Bears if they would have had him. Just to strum the guitar of ESPNS drummers.
Both of them share the blame period end of story.
Brett needs a snickers?Brett went from a great player to the biggest punk ass drama queen that I've seen in sports . He has passed Carl Lewis and Mary Decker as a diva .
I expect Brett to retire before the end of the season now. He didn't go to camp with them and endure the long summer days or preseason games because that wasn't fun. Now that there's no postseason or Super Bowl to look forward to he'll find some reason to have to call it a year and go home.
Favre's at 297 and as I type the word is he can't throw the football. Childress is gone, Favre had ADD in that he ca't get enough. The Vikes have nothing to play for. This is probably the biggest threat to his streak yet.....and oh so close.
The question on my mind at this point is do the Vikings let Favre go out and hand the ball off for a three-and-out or even one play to keep him on track for 300? Personally I would be a little shocked if even Favre did this but I wouldn't put it past him.
Just to answer a future question, no, I don't like a start for stats and stats only.
Brett Favre still hasn't been able to throw a proper pass in practice, and the Minnesota Vikings still haven't given up hope their quarterback will extend his NFL record for consecutive starts against the New York Giants on Sunday.
Favre did minimal work in practice Friday for the first time all week, making a few soft tosses to test out the sprained SC joint in his throwing shoulder. He is listed as questionable on the injury report and will be a game-time decision on whether he will make his 298th straight regular-season start.
Interim coach Leslie Frazier said Favre wanted to test out his throwing motion more than anything on Friday and that the 41-year-old will have to show the team he can make all the throws during a pregame workout Sunday to get clearance to play.
"We would have to see him make some of the throws he'd have to make in the game, and he understands that," Frazier said. "So, we'll take a look on Sunday morning and see."
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has told teammates and associates that he doesn't believe he can play Monday night, and his NFL-record starts streak will end at 297 games, sources with knowledge of the situation said.

"It does not look good," one source close to Favre said Sunday when asked about the feasibility of the quarterback playing in the Vikings' game against the New York Giants. The game was rescheduled to be played in Detroit because of the collapse of the Metrodome roof in Minneapolis.
Favre suffered a shoulder injury last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills and hasn't been able to really throw the ball since. However, with Favre, there is also some skepticism, given how he has come back from injuries throughout his 20-year career and the sense that he enjoys the drama that comes with making an unexpected start.
The Vikings will evaluate Favre throughout the day and assess the situation up to kickoff. Backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is prepared to play; he played most of last Sunday's win and took the reps in practice this week with Favre ailing.
Brett Favre is inactive for the Vikings Monday night game against the Giants, bringing to an end his NFL-record streak of 297 consecutive starts.
I don't understand why playoffs and Super Bowls are not included in the streak. His true number is 321 when you take into account all the playoff games in his career.
It just seems to be the way things are done. Post season stats are excluded from the record books (or more correctly have separate records of their own) in most, if not all, sports.
For example, Jerry Rice's and Emmitt Smith's yardage records do not include playoff games, nor for that matter does Babe Ruth's 714 home runs, or Hank Aarons 755.
Perhaps the idea is that using only regular season stats levels the playing field. Consider guys like Ernie Banks (and to this point Andre Johnson) don't have a single playoff game on their resume.
