Note how Matt Ryan until he throws holds the ball in front of him down low on his chest.......then an ultra quick release. Flacco has a similar presentation.

Neither holds the ball high or over his shoulder, where the ball is more likely to be lost (especially with a hit from the blind side or a slow wind up) like I see Schaub do.
 
Im more interested in how everytime Flacco drops back, someone on the Falcons defensive line is within a split second of a sack every single play. Pass rush is pretty amazing to watch

He got his money. He's on a team that's winning football games. That team is also sitting on top of their division. He's made the highlight reel.

I don't know... things seem to be working out pretty well for him right now. Better than Kareem that's for sure...

Yup. I saw the Falcons get a coverage sack.

I didn't know those were even possible after watching the Texans
 
I've only started watching the 4th Qtr.

Dunta Robinson is playing well. If he's been playing like this all year, then yes, I believe he could have helped our team. But based on what he did in Houston last year.... there's no way I would have kept him.
 
Matt Bryant grew up in Bridge City Texas.... let's root for the home town kid.
 
I tell you what else I saw on the Ravens. I saw a free agent WR see his team struggling so he rounds up the troops and looks as if to tell everyone to get their heads out their butts and start playing the football they know how to play. Then he backs it up with scoring a TD. Wish we had one of those guys on the team. Instead we get guys that go back to the sideline and stay quiet like the good boys they were brought in to be.

I also saw a Dline where Corey Redding, Terrell Suggs and Hilati Ngata were getting pressure. Yes more than one guy was doing that on the dline.

Good QB, excellent receiver with good possession TE. Solid running game.
Good tackling and high talent pass rush defense

Matt Ryan is better than Schaub. He's more consistent and seems to be able to know how to find his great receiver in the end zone.

The Falcons also have a good head coach. We're still looking for that.

I dont believe Ryan is better or more consistent than Schaub. He's just great at home for some reason.

Great game in the 2nd half. Ravens came roaring back, but got clipped by one hell of a QB/WR duo.

This gives me a little hope that Andre and Matt can do some damage if the o-line can hold up the pass rush. I still feel we lose that game.
 
Sure Dunta isn't shut down he's been burnt up for TD's as late as last week, having said that, Flacco sure as hell wasn't throwing at him much last night. Seems things are working out & i'm happy for him.

I mentioned I only watched the 4th Qtr. Dunta appeared to be doing a good job staying on top of his man, chucking, & forcing his man to the sideline (which I think is why he is more of a RCB than a #1 shutdown move him with the #1 receiver kind of guy).


I watched as Flacco would look to Boldin who lined up on the left a lot, but decided to throw the ball elsewhere. When Boldin lined up on the right, he didn't hesitiat to throw the ball.

If Dunta had played like that last year, I wouldn't have minded bringing him back another year. I'd probably worry about the money, a litte.... it's not my money (but it affects my team).

I also got to thinking maybe he did play that way last year, but our Safety play was just as bad as it is this year, & I had it in for Dunta & didn't notice.
 
I for one was in the pay the man Rick crowd. Not because I wanted them to, or because I thought he was a great corner or anything, but because this was THE year we were supposed to make the playoffs. Why on Earth this regime thought we could get away with the youngest secondary in the history of the NFL I do not know. It was a calculated risk at the absolutely WRONG TIME, especially considering the uncapped year.

I mentioned in the preseason, it appeared the Texans were working on the defense playing back, playing the pass first, & then the run. Where in 2009, we played the run first & pass second.

Playing the run first, seemed to fit the players we had. They all looked natural playing downhill, especially the LBs.

However, the LBs looked weak in pass coverage, my thought was because they played the run first & had to get back to defend the pass.

The New Orleans game especially, looked like our DL was doing their usual thing, sliding down, which creates big holes in the OL. But the LBs were playing back, on their heels. Those big holes allowed the OL to step up & take out the LBs who were the big reason for our success in run defense. This also allowed their running backs to look like OJ Simpson..... the good OJ.

I think we knew with Cushing out for 4 games, our defense was going to struggle & with our young corners, the decision was made to help them out, and keep the LBs on their heels.

Our defense subsequently looked pretty bad, & we can't seem to fix it. They appear to be trying to improve in pass coverage, & it just keeps getting worse & worse. The most illogical thing they could do, is get back to the way we were playing last year. Downhill.

It will expose the CBs, no doubt. But I have no doubt Quin will be fine. So will McCain. They did well last year. KJ looks good at times.... not great, not above average, not like a star...... good. & absolutely embarrassingly horrid at other times.

IMHO, if he can't get it done, sit him down, throw Molden out there, if he can't get it done, throw McMannis out there, if he can't, throw Paymuh, then Allen, then put my fat ass out there.

Basically, instead of compensating with the entire defense to fix a weak area, fix the problem.

Sink or Swim, ride or die.

Add in dealing with a sub-standard pass rush & you're dead on with this statement. Most people whether they want to admit it or not, wanted dunta gone b/c of his "pay me rick" stunt. All of this is nearly polar opposite in ATL & presto, he looks like Dunta from a few years back before the injury.

The only positive twist I can come up with right now is the fact that we have already faced 4 of the top 10 passing attacks this year. Lost 3 of 4. Most growing pains behind us already?? We only play 1 top 10 passing attack the rest of the way, and thats 2 win Denver.

If we don't see improvement over these last 8 games from any of those guys you mentioned including yourself.... I wont know what to think.

Not exactly.

There was a faction here (I was part of it) that thought Dunta was over-rated & no where near a top corner in the league. When word leaked that he wanted top 5 money, we said Hellll no0.....

When we found out the Texans offered him top 5 money & he said no, we said, "Sheeewwww".

But he still doesn't look like that Dunta from years back. If last night was any indication of his play this year, then he's changed his game, and is actually covering receivers, which I still contend he never did in Houston.

He brought the wood. After his injury, not so much. He also wasn't covering..... I didn't care for him to continue as a Houston Texans.

No, our secondary this year, isn't covering anybody; i think we can all agree on that.

i don't think anybody is saying dunta is worth the money he was asking for/got, but i'll put it to you like this, if we were handing out contracts based on percieved worth, our secondary right now isn't worth navel lint & to us he'd be worth all their yearly salaries combined.

See........ none of that actually improved Dunta's play from 2008-2009, which the decision to let him go was based on. Also doesn't change the fact that he turned down top 5 money.... didn't want it from Houston.

We paid him $10 mill in 2009 & he played like crap. There's no reason to believe he would have played better, if we paid him $13 mill in 2010.

I would have to disagree with you there simply from an injury standpoint, given a full season removed from the play.

I said it last year during the off-season, and I'll say it again now. Despite how bad people think Dunta was, he was actually a decent cover corner and an excellent run defense corner.

I thought the Texans should have franchised him one more year AND still drafted a corner in the first two rounds.

Franchising him would have been good for us in so many ways. Continuity on defense. A veteran who played hard. Those are obvious.

But it would have given us one more year to evaluate him. It would have given us more flexibility in the first round (we could have gone after a different position or even traded up for an impact guy or traded down or whatever).

It would have allowed us to groom the young corner without all these growing pains. We'd have been deeper. We might have even been able to address the FS spot by trading up for an Earl Thomas type guy.

And if you still didn't want Dunta after this year...Let him walk then...But if he proved that he was a valuable contributor, give him his deal...

I really believe that the organization (and Dunta) handled that wrong. I think that they didn't want to look foolish for franchising him 2 years in a row and ultimately paying him almost as much as what he wanted for his entire contract.

I believe our secondary/defense at least would be better than what it is by that one signing a lone.


BUT....No sense in crying over spilled milk...Dunta handled his situation the wrong way (although I think people over reacted to it), and I think we will eventually overcome that...

Agreed. Also, wasn't the Texans top target Ryan Matthews? Meaning, they were going to have to wait till the 2nd round to get their top CB? It makes even way more sense to bring back Dunta if that indeed was Plan A.

Absolutely not. He was not an excellent run corner & I don't believe he proved he was a decent cover corner last year.

I theorized last year, that "excellent" run defense corner was being held back because he didn't have that long term contract. $20 million over 2 years may have changed that, but it would have been a gamble.

He use to give us 130% every Sunday, left it all out on the field. Last year, I don't believe I ever saw more than 80%.

I was a Dunta fan. I'm a T.O. fan............ BS don't change the way I evaluate a player. Letting Dunta go was the right thing to do.
