Why don't we ever use the flea flicker?

Brisco_County

Apples and roadmaps
This offense already relies heavily on play action fakes, and the flea flicker is an extension of that. The naked bootleg is also an extension of the fake, and our offensive playbook is built around that play. Plus, the zone running system forces teams to stuff the box to block the inside lanes, which would be a perfect set up for a flea flicker.

It's not too gimmicky of a play. I've seen Roethlisberger and Brady use it successfully. It seems like it'd be effective in this offense too.

I'm sure a lot of trick plays are in the playbook.

End around, double reverse, etc.

My fav is the play when it's like 3rd and 1 or so and we'll move Walter in motion to the backfield, and he'll get a toss from Schaub, gaining about 3-4 yards and the 1st.

Because we're the Texans and the RB would probably toss the ball over Schaubs head...that or he'd have a D-lineman on his back before he could pitch the ball back.

Seriously though, the flea flicker is not a play I'm dying to see them run. If they do , ok. If they don't, ok.

They'd probably only do it once.

I'll never forget..MNF game vs. JAX...Texans brought out the wildcat, with Jacoby Jones...it lost like 3-4 yards, never saw it again. hahaha

or a pump fake every now and then? remember against the g-men, all those deflected passes? that woulda helped

How is it possible to pump fake when you don't even have enough time to throw the ball? Schaub routinely has d-linemen breathing down his neck; during the Colts game last week, Schaub couldn't hold the ball for longer than 2 seconds without an inevitable sack.

Duane Brown simply gets dominated and Eric Winston is way too inconsistent. Our guards and center are also unable to stand their own ground. A flea flicker with the o-linemen we have right now? Not lookin' like a good idea.

I'm pretty sure HWSNBM once lined up at receiver, and somebody actually tried to pass to him. The announcer said something like "I believe that pass was intended for [HWSNBM]".

I loooove the flea flicker. For whatever reason it is my favorite play. But it takes a bit of time to develop, so I guess you need a pretty solid O-line to pull it off. Considering what happened Monday night, I don't feel super comfortable attempting it.

that's like asking a cancer patient, in the midst of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, why they don't consider getting botox injections.

of all the issues to be concerned about regarding the Texans right now, the non-use of the flea-flicker would seem to be very, very low on the list.

Let's try the Stagger Lee!!!

One of my favorite fleaflickers was in the 2005 playoffs. The Steelers burned the Bengals with a crazy cross field lateral to Roethlisberger, who hit a wide open WR in the end zone. Put the game away. Who was that head coach again?

Oh yeah, Bill Cowher.

I thought the point of a flea-flicker was for it to a gadget or trick play that is used no more than a couple of times a year by any team so that you rally do catch a team by surprise.

Why not? I've seen Kubiak call crazier crap on 4th down.

What's funny to me, is that I can see someone asking Kubiak if he would ever consider a flea flicker and getting the "Are you f---ing serious" look back.

Why yes Gary, who likes a half back pass on the goal line, I am serious.

maybe we'll see the end around to Dorin Dickerson? they need to get this kid in some games to open things up using his athleticism :truck:

A flea flicker would definitely be a play Kubiak should use.

Because it puts the ball in Arian Foster's hands and he has to cough it right back up instead of RUNNING THE DAMN BALL!

Schaub: "OK, here's the play...Arian, you get the handoff..."

Foster: "Aw hell yeah. 'Bout time."

Schuab: "Then, you TOSS it back to me and I throw it."

Foster: (silence)

Foster: "Man, this is some bull$h!t right here, that's what this is."

Schaub: "OK, Arian. I know you're not happy with the call. I will audible out of the call, and into something better."

Foster: "You will?"

Schaub: "Yes. Halfback pass. You get the ball and run out there and throw it."

Foster: "Duane, you got any of that stuff left? I want to take some and get my ass banned for four games."

We all know Kubiak is so confident in HIS system, that none of the
"silly" stuff OTHER O.C.'s use will be uttered from the mouth of this
"great offensive mind."

Kubiak will call play #7 of the script, a run up the middle, EVEN IF
ALL ELEVEN DEFENDERS are lined into the center of the o-line before
the snap.

Play #7 has to be run, after all, "in order to see how the defense is playing
us."

I consider the pump fake essential. Watch how Roethlisberger uses it almost every play to great effectiveness. Why Schaub wasn't using it in the NYG game I have no idea.

I'm not only talking about this season. We've never seen it under Kubiak-- Not even last year when the passing offense was functioning. It makes me think that the play gets a bad rap, even though I've seen more success with it than not.

I saw it executed beautifully last week by Denver in the London game, but the TD was called back because of an unnecessary chop block by Moreno.

I think he wasn't using it in the Giant game becuase their D line was overwhelming our O line. To utilize an effective pump fake means the line has to hold up. Ours didnt.
