Other teams discards

Hey, anyone know any players from other teams that might be good pickups for us? Surely we can be the only ones having to decide from cutting decent players off the roster.

Coey Simon DT, Eagles could play DE in the 3-4

Would be a sweet pickup. But he'll want too much money and a long-term deal. Plus about 30 other teams probably want him.

He is a Florida State alumn, maybe another good mentor for TJ.

Heres the big questions for Simon, how many teams can afford him right now? There are only a handful of teams far enough under the salary cap to be able to sign him. Not that far of a reach for us IMO. Stranger things have happened.

Here are a few names I recognized of guys who might be worth a look:
Luther Elliss- Broncos
Raylee Johnson- Broncos
Ifeanyi Ohalete- Cardinals
Mike Compton- Jaguars
Hannibal Navies- Packers
Antonio Cochran- Seahawks

wow, let's get Ohalete. He'd be the perfect replacement and upgrade for Jason Simmons. He's a little bigger and he can play CB in a pinch and both safety positions.

did any really talented LTs get released?

Holy! Moulds got Peerless some serious lanes and when he got them, he exploited the zone hard. When he became #1 in Atlanta, he became below average.

If he come cheap, I would give this guy a try. Let AJ be our Moulds and let Peerless go wild. I am not saying it will work, but we can experiment. Peerless was so good at the crossing patern in Buffalo. He cross the middle like nobody's business and took the heavy hits. I am still a fan...

We don't have room for anymore WRs.. We're more talented and deeper at WR than anywhere else on the team. assuming we keep 6, i still think bradford will be cut: AJ, Gaffney, Armstrong, Mathis, Swinton, SThomas

I wouldn't release any of those guys for Price. Gaffney and Armstrong have great hands. Mathis is faster than God. Swinton has speed and is a special teams difference maker. SThomas has a lot of potential and has had a very good preseason. I don't think Price helps us.

I recall hearing that Price was having some sort of vision problems. Not something you want from someone who's supposed to be your #2 WR. I don't think he's someone the Texans should go after given our depth at the WR position.

dexter reid was cut by the patriots...he's a solid FS to mold behind coleman

quinton cravor was released by the chiefs...remember hearing that we were interested in this kid during the offseason

corey simon's franchise tag was removed...this guy is huge the only problem he's a starter...we are set for right now at our starters...don't think we could sign him to sit right now

pete mcmahon was released from the raiders...might be a better tackle to develop than m. brown

frank middleton was cut from the dolphins...maybe better than our back-up guards...unforunetly i think he's gotten too fat and too lazy

marcus lawerance was released earlier from the panthers...former south carolina gamecock who can play inside linebacker

Simon wants a long term contract for more then 5$Million. He would be a burden on our cap room and he wouldnt play as good in a 3-4. Hes a 4-3 player. Maurice clarett I beleive would be a good pickup and ill tell you why. He has been shamed and **** on by the broncos. He has played like a high school player and hasnt shown anything but a hot ego. However when his ego settles he will become a good 2nd string RB. I beleive we could use a power back of his caliber because we never seem to be able to get that goal line play that we need.

Not to sound like a jerk, but teams aren't in the havit of releasing really talented LTs unless they are old and hurt, not even either or.

I believe it was an attempt at humor

Petey Warrick was cut by the Bun-gels, and I'd take him over Price.

I don't know if we are the team to do it or not, but I think someone will take a shot on Clarett because his contract is low risk unless he performs... and if he does, he's earned it. Denver was just too deep with good RBs for him. I think he'll end up in Dallas personally.

Being here in Dallas I dont think so. Jones, A. Thomas, Tyson Thompson(?) and Marion Barber III I dont think the Cow-Girls even have the room.

Good point. I was thinking on a lark they might take him and try and develop him becasue Parcells expressed interest in him during the draft.

What's the story on Warrick? Not that we need receivers...
I thought he was a pretty good player.

the only thing i know about him being released, houshmanzadeh rocks. Warrick might be one of those injury prone guys as well, I know he was injured most of last season, if not all and he was injured the season before that as well.

Peter Werrick is still hurt, he played in one game this preseason and he stunk it big time. He is not healthy and any thing that comes out of the Bangals can never be healthy. They are nothing but a bunch of losers.

for those of you looking for a young LT I believe Oakland released Pete McMahon 6th rd (#214) pick this year. The Raiders are set on the offensive line with Gallery as thier future LT so no need to develop Pete. he played @ Iowa stands over 6'7" & 330 lbs. he is a very good pass blocker, he has long arms, powerfull hands & good footwork plus his contract should not be any problem. I just don't see the Texans going for any big name players/contracts the gems are going to be people like this guy you probably never heard of and because of the competition on a team in a specific area of strength is considered expendable

i know nothing of him other than what i read on draft boards but he's more a right tackle than left and a better guard than tackle... the common thread between each othe the draft boards i frequent mentioned his lack of foot speed and foot work. Both critical to the LT position. He might be worth a look as a project but i think we have enough projct linemen. IMHO

How about Rohan Davey? I have liked him since his college days. I was surprised to see he was cut. I think he is better than any QB on the roster save Carr, unless their are recent developments I don't know anything about.

i live in cincinatti, and i hope the texan sdont pick up warrick. he's not that good of a player. he is injured a lot. he complains about not being played after he comes back from an injury. he asked to be cut. and i dont see him as being one of the better recievers if we get him.

I could see the raiders picking him up

Anyone spot a cut player the Texans could use?

Some teams are making some tough cuts! Anyone spot a guy we could use?

Look on the board and you will see that everyone here wants us to get Peerless Price. I think the LT from the Raiders would be good.

Is that Warrick Dunn...? Suprised to see he got cut...Although it shouldn't hurt them too much with M. Vick and T.J. Duckett

I think he would be the best guy to get from that group I mentioned. He's still young, and has potential, where the other guys I mentioned (if I remember right) are all older, and have been around for a while.

Oh well so much for those guys. I haven't seen anything on Compton yet though- they could still consider him for the OL if he's available.

I have to admit that I will definitely want Chris Palmer fired and check Dom Capers' shorts to see if he still has what it takes to call blitzes and take some chances with our defense. The offense looked like it could move the ball but with the NFL you can't think that this offense will fool defenses all year. I am hoping that they have some five and seven step drop backs in the arsenal. I was feeling pretty positive about the season earlier but I am realizing that this team is not a playoff contender this season. 8-8 will be great at this point of my assessment of this team.

I am begining to think that they won't get players like Peerless Price and Corey Simon or anyone else that could make this team substantially better b/c they can still hide behind their "this team needs to grow" B.S.

I have to vent this out so I can cheer them on for the Buffalo game. But I hope we don't start 0-fer this year. The team and the coached need to prove themselves to our great owner and the fans that pay ridiculous prices for tickets and beer.

Okay, I think I am done. But it is killing me b/c the rockets seem to be the only Houston team doing something about our mediocridy.

bleh.. there is absolutely NO logic in criticizing our playcalling in preseason.

and bringing in every high profile FA you can get your hands on is NOT a sound strategy for building a prolific team.

sometimes (most of the time).. developing your own young talent is the best and FASTEST road to take towards contention.

not really grading them on preseason...just a feeling I am getting from the comments made by Casserly and Capers. They are saying things that aren't definite. This team offensively I feel should be better. Defensively, it worries me. AJ needs a complimentary receiver, yes? Jason Babin is lost on defense or just a plain bust for a 1st rounder. I want to be so wrong about this but it is only preseason and I want Buffalo right now!!!

Babin has been playing very well I thought.

Offensively we are better. Carr is getting much better protection and our running game looks great.

We have a very nice group of young receivers... ill be surprised if at least one of them doesnt become a big part of our offense.

Here is one all the UT fans would love. Denver released BJ Johnson, we could sign him and put him on the PS. :homer:

What do yall think? Go for him? Aside from Charlie Anderson the difference between 1st and second string is something to be desired.

Anyone know why he was cut? I am just glad to know he is gone because he is a pretty good LB.

I'll concure probably not the Texans future starting LT, but in a pinch then again who really knows. but the fact that you listed his ability to play RT plus guard positions makes him a real value pick-up. he came from an excellent program @ Iowa who have produced over a dozen NFL players the past 2 or 3 years and last years group is no exception (Jonathan Babineaux, Matt Roth, Sean Considine along with Pete McMahon). at the very least this would improve depth across the offensive line which was negleted for other needs in the draft (much higer rated than Drew Hodgdon).

Its just unfortunate that there is not an impact, ready to contribute, available talent there for the choosing. the key is all teams have a certain strength & sometimes because of that release a player another team who have a weakness could use. another example is Dante Ridgeway in the 6th round by the Rams, well you know they already have Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, Shaun McDonald & Kevin Curtis so how do you break into that lineup? well I believe he was scooped up immediatly by the Bengals who just cut Warrick.
