McCoy To Start Vs Steelers

Although it's not a surprise, it is now official: Rookie quarterback Colt McCoy will make his NFL debut Sunday for the Cleveland Beowns.
After two days of practices and with two veteran quarterbacks still ailing, McCoy is "definitely" starting against the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1), a source told ESPN.com Thursday evening. Barring something "extremely unforeseen" those plans won't change, the source said.

Browns (1-4) head coach Eric Mangini told the media this week that he's "leaning" in that direction but has yet to publicly announce McCoy as the starter. But behind closed doors, the Browns informed the rookie third-round pick as early as Monday to get ready to play, because the team didn't anticipate quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace to return from severe ankle sprains. Both veterans missed practice Wednesday and Thursday while McCoy took the first-team reps.

A third-round pick from the University of Texas, McCoy will face a Pittsburgh defense that is ranked No. 4 in the NFL. McCoy is the winningest quarterback in college football history and is known for his accuracy. He went 13-for-13 in his final preseason game for the Browns.

Starting your very first game against a Steeler's defense? That's got to be tough.

I like the potential of McCoy, and I don't want to see him develop Carr syndrome. Hopefully, Mangini will know what he's doing and not solely commit to 5 step drop passes. Short/quick passes, screens and running plays should dominate this game.

A few weeks ago, many people around here were passionately convinced that Colt McCoy was going to be cut from the Browns. Instead he is going to start an NFL game at QB on Sunday. Way to go Colt.

If he performs well on Sunday, could we have a QB controversy in Cleveland? Stay tuned....

TB could create a QB controversy against Delhomme, Wallace and Ratliff.

I would develop a flu bug if I was him. Going against the Blitzburg Steelers on the day Big Ben comes back? **** that.

I hope Colt does well on Sunday but I am scared for him.
By the end of this game, he likely will need psychological help for Post Traumatic Stress. I suspect it will not be a nice way to start the NFL career.

Let's be real, who's gonna QB when he gets knocked out the game?
Where do you come up with this?

Colt played through most of his college career without any injuries while sustaining a ton of huge hits. He played hurt all of the time. He gets knocked out of one huge game against Bama, and now he can't even make it through an NFL game? Please.

And he looked pretty good today considering who he was playing and what he has to throw to.

That's great to hear. I don't think Colt's going to have much of an NFL career, but I'll be rooting hard as I can for him. A lot of people forget that Colt was a Two star recruit when he came to Texas.

I humbly eat crow. I was just trying to be funny. Nothing aganst Colt, I was looking at the chances of any rookie QB starting against the Steeler's D.

Not a whole lot to cheer about if your a Browns fan these days. LOL

My feelings echoed some of the previous posters in basically thinking that this was a worst case senario to start a rookie. I watched the whole game (flipping back and forth to the Texans, of course) and while some of Colts yardage ect came in garbage time, he consistantly showed great awareness and decision skills. Colt scrambled when needed, hit recievers in stride, and actually looked better than any QB this team has put on the field for years.

As a fan, I'm got a little glimmer of hope for the future.

Yeah, I hear ya. The Steelers D is scary as hell for any QB, especially a young one like Colt. I've heard a lot of people act like Colt doesn't have any toughness and he took a ton of hits at Texas. People forget about how much he ran the ball at times. I thought that he was going to have a totally brutal day yesterday and surprisingly he looked pretty good from what you could have expected.

I am not ready to pass jugement on Colt just yet everyone has their own guesses but also all players deserve a chance as long as they work hard at it and act right.
