Eli Manning ... "We knew what they were going to do"

Just listening to sports radio and Eli made a comment that they pretty much knew how the Texans would play. Basically that after watching film they knew pretty much what the Texans would do on both sides of the ball.

Even on TV the announcers were saying something like "It's like the Giants know what plays the Texans are going to call".

Also I found this on a NJ based news site ...

Nicks can thank Manning he caught his second touchdown. It was an in cut at the back of the end zone made possible by Texans safety Bernard Pollard’s biting on a short out route by Ahmad Bradshaw.

During Manning’s weekly players-only film session with his receivers Friday, he told his targets Houston would play it that way. (“It’s not sound,” he said of the coverage.) Manning told Bradshaw on the spot to run into the flat, even though that wasn’t the called route.

“It’s fun when those things work,” Manning said. “It’s not always what the coach had drawn up and what the coach wants me to do. As I get older and as the receivers get older and more confident in understanding when I’m telling them something, it’s for their own good, they might get a touchdown out of it.”

It sounds to me that the Texans are getting exposed by better coaches.

Thing is, until the Texans catch on that this is what is happening, they are gonna get burned the rest of the season.....and get outcoached by every opponent

Wait 'till they realize that KJ just lets the WR run into the endzone so he can stand around and cover a ghost at the LOS.

I remember reading a report earlier this week that Giants were going to take away our cutback lanes....and then they did it as soon as our offense got on the field. And we never got them back.

They had our number. Apparently, we aren't too hard to figure out for a good defensive coach.

Just read a tweet by LZ who echoed what you're saying: pretty easy to see that Fewell was practically sitting in on Texans' game planning. I've been a big defender of Kubiak but this game has really shaken my confidence in him and his staff.

Even worse was when Moose Johnson described how the Giants were defending the ZBS running game and suggested that the Texans sub in Ward and run their man-blocking package to combat that. It's really sad when a TV analyst can identify a problem and suggest a solution for it and our coaching staff can't.

Sad, but recurring...

The coaching staff should have expected any team to eventually scheme for this.

You've heard Gary Kubiak say many times, "we just need to worry about 'us.'"
He believes he's smart enough to beat you with what you know is coming.
What he doesn't realize, is that only works if you DON'T use a finesse scheme.

Well the finesse scheme works and works well IF you can do 1 of two things well:
1. Redirect the opposing DL in order to open a hole
2. Cut block without the ref noticing.

If you cannot redirect the opposing DL, which clearly we cannot do against larger DL (see how we did it against the lighter Colt and Raider DL) and you cannot clandestinely cut block, then the ZBS is neutered. What we need is a hybrid Power/Zone scheme. This requires a stronger Center, stronger RG, and Brown in the game.

Seems to me that most other teams can just watch the game tape and have our number for the rest of the season. We weren't able to break it outside, nor could we cut it back. That's a recipe for disaster with our run game if we can't do either.

I'm still not sure why our passing game sucked so much and has been a week-in week out problem. Have teams figured out how to cover us from last year or is Schaub just not finding open receivers?

Eli Manning is a muff-huggin' HACK who got a Superbowl ring by LUCK and because Tom Brady and the Patriots were so damned cocky that they didn't think it was possible for them to lose one. The Texans defense should remember this game and punish him for being such a smug ass the next time they face him.

I say we punish his brother for it in three weeks!

And this is news??? It doesn't take a smartass Yankee QB, the media, or football greats to realize a 10 yr old could call a better game than Gary Kubiak!! PLUS, he is a TOTAL failure when it comes to preparing his team for a game!! Same old same old, each and every game!! We are LUCKY we beat the Skins and the Raiders!! Every coach in the NFL had our number after the Colts game. I said it then, and I'll say it now. We are NOT hard to figure out, and we showed all our stuff at the preseason Cowboy game. Kubiak has not changed a thing!! JMO!!

I think I am starting to agree with you grandma. I thought maybe this was the new Texans, the team that would win the ones they really needed to win, but its starting to look like we are really just the same old Texans, we win some and we lose some, and maybe , just maybe we can win enough to keep us respectable. Don't get me wrong I love my team I am juts hating this roller coaster of emotions we all go through every week. So I suppose since we sucked this week we should have bonfire with the chefs!

This is one of things we never like to hear, but honestly NFL teams rarely just totally catches the other off guard with what they are trying to do. There way too much film and tendacy study, and from week to week a team will adjust a few things but the core offense and defense are ran over and over. Yoou know that execution thing drives too many of you crazy.

It seems like all game Moose was pointing out things the Texans were doing wrong, then offering solutions. Most of the time I disregard what the announcers are saying, but Moose really seemed to have some insight. I have never been a fan since he was cowgirl, but I wonder if he has any coaching aspirations...

Grandma ... a yankee QB? ...lol. Eli is from Mississippi isn't he? He plays for a yankee team so maybe that is what you meant. ;)

Better be careful there, SheTex, lest someone refer to you as a "retarded ass know-it-all" (I think I quoted that correctly).

Eli and the Giants weren't "lucky", they were just better prepared. But haters gotta' hate.

Well, I'm definitely a "retarded ASS" but not so sure about the "know-it-all!":blah::winky: IF I "knew it all" I wouldn't be wasting so much time on this MB!

Hookum!! nevermind!:nolisten:

Have you EVER seen a game when an TV analyst didn't identify the problems and give the solution for a losing team? Coaching is easy from the cheap seats....doesn't mean **** to me.

that's b/c he's & the secondary imo are selling out too hard & fast for the run. We went through this after the Dallas game & all you heard from pollard on his show was "everyone just needs to do their job". Well Mr. Pollard you failed to take your own advice on that one b/c job #1 for you as a safety is to cover.

heck if all the fantasy experts say take the QB & his WR's when they face the Texans you gotta go with it :tiphat:

Heck, Kubiak will not even watch some plays during the game - at least the announcer is doing his job and watching.

I agree with your sentiment, just not in this application as we have four years and five games to deduce that something is systemic.

They did have Sage Rosencopter on the sidelines

i seen Sage on the sideline all up into Mannings ear prob giving him pointers and tips has him and eli and prob the OC were going through there picture book

U would think Kubes would be smart enough to come up with new plays and schemes for different games

IIRC, I was just about the only one who seemed upset that Kubiak wouldn't watch field goals when he first hired on. He is supposed to be observing, learning, and adjusting every play. He doesn't have the luxury to be a nervous fan.

Classic over-reaction thread. I actually agree with the original post. It was clear during the game that we were totally out-schemed that game. As a matter of a fact, I was texting that exact message to a friend at 7-0 in the first quarter. However, those issues are discovered during the week and then addressed. I would panic if the same thing happens again this week... i don't expect it to.

I'm sure the NY Giants fans were saying the same things after getting blown out by Eli Manning. When a team gets blown out like that in the modern NFL, it's usually the result of getting out-coached that week. Such was the case for the Texans this week.

We were out-coached against Washington as well. I agree with that. And, again against Dallas.... UMMM, Okay. This is starting to sound bad now. Maybe I should panic as well. Yikes!

I'll give you an over reaction. Once we make the playoffs, with Kubiak, how long before we win a game in the playoffs? The Cowboys and Giants needed victories and they came into our treehouse and beat the snot out of our kids.

yep that is what worries me if we make the playoffs..and I hate the quotes I have read .."we played a good team" well to be great, you have to beat the good teams too.

Is Moose Johnson interested in coaching????? As pissed as everyone is right now he should contact Mr. McNair.....

In 1997 Rice used to run the triple option and every fan could tell where the play was going and who was going to get the ball.

Still they averaged 4 yards per carry that season.

You can be predictable in your offensive game plan, as long as you execute and knock your assignment a couple of yards off the line of scrimmage. We didn’t do that yesterday. We paid dearly. We had defensive players in the lanes with their arms up all day.

great point. As much as everyone does not want to hear the "e" word that was so often worn out by Capers & co...yesterday's game looked like we had scabs out there playing. They weren't able to do anything right.

Looks like Sage did, in fact, sell them out:

Lance Zierlein LanceZierlein

Sage Rosenfels told Giants coaches about EVERYTHING the Texans would do offensively which is one of the reasons the Giants shut down Texans
LanceZierlein

That info came straight from a source of Granato's who spoke with Sage. It's not dirty by Sage at all. It's just winning a football game
LanceZierlein

The Giants had different defensive personnel packages ready to match up with different Texans groupings. Sage was MVP for Perry Fewell.

We've got Derrick Ward, who used to play for the Giants. We should have picked his brain...unless, of course, the Giants are the kind of team that actually adapts different strategies for each individual opponent instead of assuming that they can do whatever they always do and get away with it every week.

Maybe Rosenfels knows us like the back of his hand and Ward just took the hand off and ran where the hole was s'posed ta be.

That's all I got.

I honestly hope we've changed up things on our offense since Rosencopter was here. I'd say it's quite pathetic if we have not and he was actually a major contributor to game planning against our offense.
