I can see what Leinart's talking about.

That was a pretty lame effort by Anderson. Isn't he supposed to be funny? He's supposed to be a NFL WR, also. Just doesn't produce like one. The downside is that Anderson will likely get more playing time this Sunday, due to the injuries at WR.

If Johnson and Jones can’t play this week, the Texans would have three active receivers: Kevin Walter, David Anderson and sparingly-used-to-date rookie Dorin Dickerson.

“Dickerson, he was up last week,” Kubiak said. “He has been preparing to play. Of course, David steps up if there is an issue there. He’s been fine.”

If Jones can’t play, Anderson would return punts for the Texans.
Kubiak definition of "fine" must be anyone who averages at least 3.5 yards per reception. I don't know if Anderson is the worst WR in the NFL. Maybe. But, I'm confident that he will be the worst punt returner this week. I can't believe they've setup their roster that leaves Anderson as the backup punt returner.

Wow hate on DA or what???

So who do you feel should be the back-up PR?? It would have to be someone already on the team?
DA does have good hands-while he doesn't have the speed of JJ, I think he'll be fine as a PR.

I think DA will be a safe reliable consistent PR. I doubt he ever takes one to the house, but he will be serviceable to JJ is back.

 - I'm not sure what that smilie is supposed to imply. But, right back atcha.

There are some players who just can't be criticized without their fanboys getting their feelings hurt. David Anderson has such a fan club. Has someone who has produced so little ever garnered so much love? Anna Kournikova, perhaps?

This, I understand.

The one return you must be referring to (2007 vs the Titans), DA muffed. So you're right. We don't really know what he can do. That Anderson has no positive experience or open field skills leads me to believe he will suck as a punt returner. You're comfortable with Anderson, mainly because Kubiak chose him to return punts. We each have our own criteria for comfort, I suppose.

It would have to be, now. Though Smithiak has had almost 2 months to find another returner, since Holiday went on IR. I think they should have picked up another returner prior to the start of the season, and I'm on record on this site saying as much. Now, we have an impending disaster looming on punt returns. Maybe the Texans will get lucky, and the defense won't force the Giants to punt.

The other PR listed is Glover Quin.

Personally, if he's got the hands for it, the guy I'd like to see give it a shot is Dorin Dickerson. Assuming, of course, that he's got the hands and the smarts for it.

i take the  smiley to mean whatever.. i use it when people make (imo) ridiculous statements based on their own irrational feelings to a player so i thought it fitted.

im no DA fan club member so im not going to even argue about it with you but its quite clear you're extra sore about DA for some reason & hating unnecessarily on a decent, serviceable player...

'impending disaster at punt returns'.... :wadepalm: pppppppppuuuuuuhhhhlease. exaggerate much? come back tomorrow evening, im sure DA returning punts returning wont be the reason we win or lose against the giants

I'm not "extra sore" over anyone. Just pointing out the facts.

While it would certainly be sweet to have a potential big play threat at PR I don't think it's as crucial as it used to be on this team. All I want is for him not to muff the catch and cost us a possession. Our offense is our real strength, not the return teams.

Our return teams aren't as much of a strength as they used to be. The real question is why not? Special teamers have most always been 2nd and 3rd teamers. And the quality of our subs has improved over the years. Therefore, Coach Joe should have more to work with. So I ask, has Coach Joe lost his edge? After the one good return Holliday had in pre-season Coach Joe was all in his grill. Holliday was never the same. What gives?

I'm not going to blame Anderson if he muffs a punt (again). Or Slaton, if he makes another bonehead play on a kick return. This is professional football. Where you place players with professional skills for the jobs at task. Not projects or best guesses.

We have to agree to disagree here. I expect the guy with the responsibility to do a job to do that job. While I would love for our players to play mistake free, I recognize that we humans do screw up from time to time. I just ask is that they do everything they can to learn from their mistakes and they work there a$$es off to improve so they'll be ready when their name is called again.

It's Smithiak's job to always be on the watch for upgrades/depth and grab them when they make sense. So far, so good.

And until players prove themselves, consistently, they're ALL projects and best guesses. Otherwise, there'd be no such thing as a bust.

How many times has Anderson been cold clocked on the field? I know of two. Seems to always end up on the wrong end of a highlight reel.

I like Anderson. Guy has spunk. I'll be happy when he gets outsourced on the depth chart though.

I'd like to see Sherrick McManis give it a shot.

Phil Kessel: Nice Guy. Tries Hard.
Didn't the Texans lose the last time they had a guy talk with Rome? Week 3 Mario before the Dallas game?
