A thought

So I was reading the Chronicle the other day and they were talking about P.Buc and how the Raiders wasent the right enviroment for him. How he had all the right physical skills to be a premier corner but was never able to put it all together. How he got an over inflated ego when labled showtime. How he got defensive when fans, coaches, and players made comments on his level of play.

So what happens if he comes here and becomes great?

How much of football is truely physical attributes? How much does charector, mental stamina, and the system that they play in, take part in shaping and creating the player they will become?

How much is the coach, front office, owner, media, and fans, responsible for what kind of football player he becomes?

What happens if P.Buc becomes great?

Does it mean that the Raiders failed him? Or does it mean that the Houston system is better? Does it mean that if left in Oakland he was to have been labled a bust, doomed to be continualy posted over and over and over as a bust on every "who do you think is the biggest bust" thread?(Tony B. cause he never played a down)

And if this is the case and P.Buc is great then what of all the other busts? The leafs, Mcguires, couch's, streets, dilfer's, smith's, howard's, george's? Could they have florished in other systems? If the Texans would have taken Harrington would we be thankful cause Carr is in Detroit fighting for a starting job?

Somtimes it makes you wonder whether the player fails football or did football fail the player.

Just a thought.

It's all on P Buc. It doesn't mater where he plays, it's up to him to show his character and what he is all about. Why is it that no one takes responsibilties for what they do or take pride of what they do. If he succeeds or fails it will be on him and not the system, the city or the fans. IT"S ALL ON P BUC. Same for every one else on that list.

I agree that most of the responsibility lies with buchanon himself, but there are other things that play a small part in the way he plays. i.e. coaching, defensive schemes, fellow teammates play, etc

I side with atx on this one. It is primarily the players responsibility to get it done and live up to his potential but you can't discount the situation he's placed in. The world around the player is going to be reflected in him.

How many players never make it in the NFL because they were in the wrong system or situation? Now how many players would fail under most circumstances, but are given just the right environment to flourish?

Bottom line this world has a ton of bad luck and good luck. Anyone wonder what would have happened if Bo Jackson had played for the Bucs instead of sitting out a year? How about if Steve Largent had played for the Oilers instead of being traded to Seattle? Would he have even been given a chance on most NFL teams? I don't think so. What if Joe Montana had been drafted by the Bucs or Saints? It isn't ALWAYS about determination. Sometimes it is just damn luck. You just never know.

No, actually it could be your fault, because of comments made on this board. Or some other poster, or the TV people, or the announcers, or the Chronicle. Could be Capers, Casserly, his wife, his kid, his grandmother. Could be his jr. high coach's fault. All I know is, it's not my fault. But, it could be Buchannon's.

I agree....to a certain extent. People should take responsibility for there action, no question.

But then again when Deion Sanders calls you show time then there should have been somebody there to have brought him back down to earth. I feel that he should have been pulled to the side and have been reminded that he is no one and has accompished nothing, yet, to be thought of like that.

Guidence builds character.

Remeber what you were like at 22. Now imagine being famous and rich and no one there to tell you what to do. And then show up for football practice. On time.

I am not, even though it sound like it, making excuses for him. But that is part of the character of the person. He failed in a non structured enviroment, period. He only has himself to blame. Now he is in an enviroment where if you show up to meetings late, like peek and coleman, you get sat a game. No excuse accepted.

Now lets see if he becomes great.

That's a pretty good thought right there, and I'm not being sarcastic. I think P. Buc can become a good cornerback, if he becomes a superstar that's probably up to him. But I admit, the chances of him becoming a star in Oakland were very slim. Most of the players on the Raiders have a big ego, and P. Buc had just that, let's see if he's going to wake up in Houston..

Also I'm interested in seeing how good Courtney Brown will do in Denver now, because he is labeled a bust so far when he was the Cleveland Browns.
