Time to NOT to get sappy about The Texans (respect to DaleMurphy)

Dale, just want you to know that I loved your article and it certainly stays true with a Texan win this week. However, I'd like to take a second to remind us that this season just started.

On Thursday, I took a one day sebaticle. I wanted to get away from it for one day so that I could soak up pretty much everything DaleMurphy talked about in his post and then get back to thinking straight. In that time, I realized that we were getting alot of press but that press was mainly by way of Dallas Cowboy media hype. The only real way we were mentioned was something that sounded like this ".....and those struggling Cowboys will go on to face the 2-0 Houston Texans" or "with the Cowboys struggling, Houston could start 3-0 for their first time in franchise history".

Everything is set for the media to blast for their ability to lose a game vs. our ability to win a game. Experts have picked us but only because Dallas is "struggling to find their identity." I can only think of Warren Sapp who said "The Texans know who they are, Dallas is still trying to figure that out. I'm going with The Texans."

Then when you look at the news about Duane Brown, you hear about Demarcus Ware and how that's going to stop us and Dallas will figure it all out during our game. No talk about how Mario is on a terror, how Texans offense one one game on the ground and one in the air. If there is any talk it's about our secondary giving up all the yards. While that may be true noone says that we just got through going up against two perennial HOFers and how one game went into overtime or how we as a team overcame those numbers to win.

My point is.....YOU HAVEN'T PROVEN A DARN THING TEXANS. Not to the fans, not the media, and hopefully not to yourselves because you need to be hungry for this game. You can't afford to come out and turn the ball over on offense, or allow Dallas' offense to come down and shove the ball down your throat or pass at will in this game. You have to come out and smack this team in the mouth. Tony Romo's trying to stir up his running game through the media and is basically saying he thinks he can run on you. You got to make them one dimensional early. If you jump on Dallas early, they will mail it in. They are 0-2 and you've been there before. You know what a team like that starts to think if you go up 14-0 on them early. They've been pointing fingers on their bench during games - they are not a team. YOU ARE THOUGH and noone should be able to come to this house and kick us around. They are the team in the way of your goal for the season. This isn't about Dallas vs. Houston, Houston vs. Dallas. This is about making sure this team doesn't knock you off track.

I'd love to talk about how great you are but frankly there is no time for that until after you've wrapped up a playoff spot and even then we want to be able to talk about home field advantage. The pressure continues.....no time to get sappy.

These two past games have reminded of that day against Carolina at Third Base here in Austin. That was a good day. I still get all warm and gooey inside about it today. The Texans are putting up right now so I'm shutting up and enjoying the ride.

:texan:

I like sappy!! Gives me that GOOOOOD feeling about where we're headed. The road is paved with anticipation and sappy feelings right now. I refuse to reduce myself to the negatives or the "what ifs!" I wanna continue that sappy feeling for as long as it lasts.

I believe that we should continue to expect, no "demand" that the Texans continue to improve and win this Sunday. Nothing is settled by week two of a season. Additionally I think that they are finally demanding the same kind of performance out of themselves for the first time in this teams existence and nobody should be telling them "Job well done!" yet. "Good start!" would be more like it.

Nobody's done with anything. We need to make another statement this Sunday. Good teams pounce on teams that are struggling or in disarray.

With apologies to George C. Scott for borrowing his Patton mojo: "We need to hold onto the Cowboys by the nose and kick them in the ass! We need to kick the hell out of them all the time and we need to go through them like crap through a goose!"

This could certainly be a game where we say, "Hey thanks for bringing all your media with you Cowboys" so everyone can know the Texans are here and they are for real. This could be a game where we pull the plug on the Cowboys season REAL early. This could also be a game where we get overconfident and awaken a sleeping beast. Frankly, I think this is another game that's up to the Texans. Is it gonna be the old, find a way to lose team or is it this new trend of winning the games that are decided on a few plays?

:goodpost:

I caught the same vibe on NFLN last night. Before commercial they said they'd be back to talk about Matt. The segment that followed was about the 'boys struggling and Matt more or less being a beneficiary of opponents poor play. Even when we're favored it's because our opponents are playing poorly and are forcast to lose, not because we are playing well and are picked to win. Kinda pissed me off.

Pukes, all of 'em

I just don't give a rat's a.. about what the fans of other teams think about Texans. I never watch another team regardless of the sport but only the one my team is playing or if that game impacts my team's chances. Call me a homer, I guess. If I get a compliment or "well done" I thank the person and keep on keeping on. If it is an insult, again show them you are better. Remember Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke? The other prisoners respected him when he kept getting back up.

Let Dallas be America's team cause in their minds they are gonna be glad they do not have to get stomped more than twice this year by the bull. I am almost hoping Dallas gets to the SB just so we can whup 'em again. Can't you hear those Cowboys saying "Guess it was not just the pre-season game."

I'm reminded of this..........

"Why was John Wayne a cowboy?

Because he wasn't a Texan!"

Think about it for a minute.....

I like the thoughts in this thread, but I disagree about the first two games not proving something. Sure, they are just two games into a long season, so I'm not putting the cart before the horse. But c'mon! They dominated the Colts, easily this team's nemesis for 8 years and clearly one of the elite teams in the NFL (and last week proved that the Colts are still for real). And then they played a catch-up game in a hostile environment and even overcame their own mistakes to finally win a game in OT. Folks, this Texans team has already exorcised TWO huge demons that has plagued them for 8 seasons!!!

Don't act like those games got us to the playoffs, but don't dismiss them like they mean nothing. They proved to themselves and this fan base that this year is truly one where their actions meet their expectations, where their determination provided truth to the rhetoric, and gave the ability to hope for this restless Texans Nation that optimism is not only warranted, but secure to believe in this team this year.

I won't feel any different about those two games if they lose to the Cowboys. Yeah, I'll be disappointed, but I won't give up hope this season. I believe that this team can do it now, and that originates from the performances that they provided in the first two weeks from the season.

Exactly! Glance over your shoulder Texans at the teams you beat, then focus on the next one in the way! We got the players and they know the game plan works. Walter said this morning they have confidence. I think Oakland players are really praying hard for Dallas! HAH. "Cause they next!
