Draftsite.com has a 2011 7 rounder

Draftsite.com has a new mock up:

20 Michael Floyd* WR Notre Dame 6' 3" 220
52 Chykie Brown CB Texas 6' 0" 190
84 Mason Foster ILB Washington 6' 2" 244
116 Ted Laurent DT Mississippi 6' 0" 305
148 Kevin Riley QB Cal 6' 2" 221
180 Devin Newsome S San Jose State 5' 10" 185
212 Chris Carter OLB Fresno State 6' 2" 230

Draftsite.com 9/10

14 Julio Jones* WR Alabama 6' 4" 210
46 Orlando Franklin OG Miami 6' 7" 318
78 Christian Tupou DT USC 6' 2" 285
110 Demarcus Van Dyke CB Miami 6' 0" 180
142 Mario Harvey ILB Marshall 6' 0" 245
174 Jay Valai S Wisconsin 5' 9" 201
206 Scott Tolzien QB Wisconsin 6' 3" 205

IMO no way we go WR in round 1.

Cherry pick
14 Mark Ingram* RB Alabama 5' 10" 215
46 Kristofer O'Dowd OC USC 6' 5" 300
78 Kendrick Ellis DT Hampton 6' 5" 340
110 Nic Grigsby RB Arizona 5' 10" 190
142 Duke Ihenacho SS San Jose State 6' 1" 210
174 Greg McElroy QB Alabama 6' 3" 220
206 Matt Bosher K Miami 6' 0" 205

I admit I have no clue who these guys are after the 2nd round, other the QB, I am trying to go position as much as anything.

Why 2 RBs? Cause they get hurt and most teams carry 4 of them, maybe Kubiak will learn the new reality of the NFL.

Interesting post and I don't disagree with your choices but do you fell Texans will have a #14 pick in first round? Also, did you any reason for the host of the mock to drop Texans from #20 to #14? I want to see how Ingram does this year and he is coming off injury. I think O'Dowd if healthy could be a good pick but don't see Texans going for a DT that heavy. Not sure we would use even a 7th for a kicker as Rackers will still be under contract but will not blast you for it.

If my thinking is correct, this mock was originally updated after the Saints preseason game, and you know how that looked. The producer of this mock dropped the Texans way down the power ranking.

I can see this team going one of two ways, picking where they have us picking or picking at 32.

I cherry pick where they had us picking. Not where I think they will be picking.

The new one has us at pick 24 taking terrelle pryor

My bad...Wrong draft...that was 2012

They have us taking S DeAndre McDaniel from Clemson

Personally, I'd like to see us take a DT in the next draft...I like Cody and he may still be the starter even with a 1st rd. pick at that position, but I'd atleast like some better competition there besides Frank Okam...I would like a guy like Marvi Austin, but this draft has him going in the top 10

Stephen Paea would also be a good pick IMO...They have him going after the Texans pick...

I'm hoping we are in a position to take BPA.

I believe that Marvin Austin was suspended from the N.C. team for the year and from what I've read he's a very hit or miss player anyway who probably won't go before the 3rd or 4th round now. DeAndre McDaniel or Deunta Williams would both be good choices. Stephen Paea will probably go before we pick but if available would be an excellent choice. I also wouldn't mind us taking a CB in the 1st round like Aaron Williams, Ras-I Dowling, Curtis Brown or Brandon Harris cause Peterson will be gone before we pick. I wouldn't be upset if we took Kristofer O'Dowd either.

new version is out now draftsite.com 9-16

17 DeAndre McDaniel S Clemson 6' 1" 190
49 Kristofer O'Dowd OC USC 6' 5" 300
81 Titus Young WR Boise State 5' 11" 170
113 Kendrick Ellis DT Hampton 6' 5" 340
145 Mario Butler CB Georgia Tech 6' 1" 185
177 Brian Duncan ILB Texas Tech 6' 1" 240
208 Christian Anthony DE Grambling State 6' 4" 260

Better position picks early but still not valid for this team. And they do not have us in the playoffs yet. The Texans just need to keeps playing on game at a time and winning.

My Cherry picks:

17 DeMarco Murray RB Oklahoma 6' 0" 205
49 Kristofer O'Dowd OC USC 6' 5" 300
81 Sam Acho DE Texas 6' 3" 258
113 Kendrick Ellis DT Hampton 6' 5" 340
145 Chris Hairston OT Clemson 6' 7" 325
177 Greg McElroy QB Alabama 6' 3" 220
208 Eric Peitz TE Colorado State 6' 5" 251

As we have already seen more RB is better than not enough. O'Dowd is a tall, fiery type. Acho is insurance on Barwin. Ellis is the large immovable object in the middle. Hairston is a huge body for depth. McElroy has done nothing but win everywhere he has gone, solid developmental guy. Peitz, he's from Colorado State, need I say more.

I would be very ok with your Cherry Picks but I want another CB and probably a FS even if Nolan is all he appears to be. Also, I just don't see Texans drafting a big DT.

They drafted Okam?

I think they want a DT or two that big for goaline and short yardage packages...

Golly, if our players stay healthy and continue to progress like we hope they will, we will be completely stacked going into the draft and cant purely take BPA throughout. This assumes we are able to re-sign guys like Jacoby.

QB - Schaub (could use a good backup if Kubiak doesn't like/extend Leinart)
RB - Foster, Slaton (will Tate come back healthy? If so we've got 3 good RBs)
WR - Dre, Walter, Jacoby (not a NEEd selection as these guys will see most receptions)
TE - Owen, Dreessen, Casey, Graham (Kubiak may take 2 TEs again... lol)
FB -Leach (stuuuddd)
OT - Brown, Winston (obvious starters, could get depth)
OG - Caldwell (if there's a really good LG I might see it who knows)
C - Myers (Rarely a 1st round C but if there's an elite one who knows, Myers seems to be progressing and Kubiak likes him a lot though)

DE - Mario, Antonio (Barwin's injury is a huge damper, how will the 2 new FAs do? DE may or may not be an early pick)
DT - Amobi,Mitchell, Cody (we'll see how our DTs do this year but it looks 'okay'. If they truly want a strong rotation and pass rushes, maybe DT?)
LB - Demeco, Cushing (no way we take a LB to replace them or a 1st rounder to replace Diles. Meco/Cush stay on the field in passing situations so a 1st rounder would come off the field? no way.)
CB - Jackson, Quin (we always take CBs in the draft, depends how these guys do. Would Quin push to nickle and accel?? 1st rd CB again?
SS - Pollard (hell to the no do we replace him)
FS - Wilson/Nolan (FS is always a fan favorite, a ball hawking playmaker that can tackle would be sweeeet).

Sure there are a lot of "if's" as in everyone stays healthy, Tate comes back okay, Barwin too maybe, Jacoby re-signs to stay with Dre and this passing attack (he'll get just as many receptions as a "#2" or "starter" elsewhere), the rookie Jackson is a success, Amobi/Mitchell do well. Lots of ifs but I think they're reasonable ones to expect.

This next draft is going to be fun! Aw hell they're all fun. :fans:

Not to mention, we'll be picking towards the end of each round this year. Hopefully 32!! If not, 31 should suffice;)

I think that right now, as it stands...I would look for a DT in the first...Someone to make Okam earn his roster spot, and at the same time push Cody for playing time at the 1 technique...I'm really feeling Paea or the guy from North Carolina, Marvin Austin...

The dude from North Carolina is freakishly athletic...

After that I'd go FS, CB...

Of course this all changes if an outstanding prospect falls to us.

It's way too early to tell, but I'm not convinced that any first rd. pick we have will be pushed in to the starting line-up like we have done in the past...

Especially if we are picking in the twenties (or thirties ;)) somewhere...

Yes and Frank has been an almost complete failure. I am known on this MB for screaming for a big DT to shut down the run & was only slightly modified when Okam came on board despite rumors he was more interested in his degree (law) and civilian pursuit of same. I've posted wanting trades of FA pick ups as Texans & I agreed for at least 3 years that stopping the run was an immediate need. However a funny thing happened after game 3 last season. The lighter DTs began to shut down the opponent's running backs. Unless a value BPA is there, I just don't see it. Maybe keep one around from FA only after Okam goes. No one else on roster is even close to Okam's weight which I think is a bit more than the 340 he is listed at.

I think Dickerson at WR will be on roster at least one more year giving 4 solid players.

On JJ, I think if he does well the fan adoration and Kubiak will keep in Texans uniform. Momma will point out that Gary talked to Jacoby as a father figure & she will approve of that even more than JJ. I don't see him going elsewhere.

Beerlover, Rmartin65 and I are already having fun studying for the 2011 mock draft.

I am standing next to you screaming also. I thought Dan Williams was a viable option at #20 last season, but they went smaller, not that Mitchell is really undersized.

Would love to get Mitchell and Okoye on the field together, and then find another big DT to go with a hopefully improved Okam, then we have the goal line guys and the quicker guys so we can play situational football at DT.

I agree with all of your position assessments and CB has made it to the top of my latest mock draft, very good assessment. Quin would make a great nickle CB and next years draft will have plenty of good CB's in the 1st round. A 1st round CB would allow us to improve quality and depth at CB and allow us to cut Molden at the same time.

If Molden comes back and is healthy for the rest of the season, it might be McMannis on the outside looking in...

My understanding is Brice McCain owns the nickle & Kubiak is pleased with him, He is faster than Quin. If we do go CB, some of us are hoping Quin slides to FS even if Nolan looks good. A swing CB/FS in Quin would be sweet and could replace WIlson eventually.

Quinn plays the Nickel.

So if you move Quinn to FS you have to find another Nickel CB.

But hearing Rick Smith talk about Quinn the other day, and what their thinking was when drafting him, I don't think that they are going to move him to FS...

Quinn natural position may very well be the nickle. He is a force sideline to sideline in coverage underneath & in run support. He exhibits good instincts, physical (which Bush desires) versatile & needs to be on the field all three downs which means he moves around in different packages so I would not get hung up on any specific position. The Texans are doing a much better job getting their best playmakers on the field @ the same time & Quinn qualifies as part of the Texans core group.

I've liked McCain from day one to cover the outside field parameters. He has the best long speed & vertical of all secondary players, his intincts are good & has developed ability to mirror NFL WR's proving you don't have to use a high pick to be a starting CB in this league.

When it's all said & done McManis best position may just very well be the Free Safety position. Right now Gibbs is trying to develop his cover skills on the corner, I think he has the ball skills but is raw & overwhelmed playing @ this level. He is a project somewhat like Dickerson is @ WR so I'm not giving up on him yet.

It would be nice if Molden could stay healthy. He has a bad case of Bob Sandersitis, would like to see if he could fit @ FS. The one thing these guys all have in common is they are all hard workers, good character guys you can't help but root for to make it for the Texans :wesmantexanfan:

Why are we trying to move all our corners to FS?

Before we move any of these CB's I'd rather see what Troy Nolan can do...

He has actually played the position at a high level and has shown flashes of being really good...

Honest question, but why would you move any of those guys over instead of seeing what Nolan can do and/or just drafting a FS?

I do not see Quinn moving to free saftey because of what Smith said about what their thinking was when drafting him. He said that they like corners who are physical and tackle well. They said they thought Quinn was very tough and while a lot of teams projected him to the FS position they said they though he could play corner for them.

If you think about it, under this regime, it seems like the Texans like their starting corners to be physical, good in run support and tackle well.

McCain is a good cover corner, but I think they'd prefer to bring him in in "cover" situations and not have him out there in the regular sets.

That makes sense to me, because if you are having your d-linemen play a penetrating up the field type defense it is imperative that you have people on the back end that can get to the ball carrier and bring them down.

Not speaking for BL but I know I was not too high on Nolan but he has looked good so far. We have sort of pushed for Quin for FS becuse he was rated 7th best FS year he came out. Many don't like to see positional changes but Wilson has made it work for him. As for Quin at nickle, he does play there but unlike BL, I prefer him on the side as he brings 3 more inches of height. McCain is doing pretty well so I am comfortable where ever they play. I too am hopeful Moldin can stay healthy and have a great season. This is from a 2008 article 40 speed at 4.39 :At 6 feet and 198 pounds, Molden ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds. Molden ranked first among cornerbacks in the 225-pound bench press (23 repetitions) and third in the vertical jump (37.5 inches). He arrived at the Texans' first post-draft minicamp Friday

Another new mock by draftsite.com 10/10/10

20 Julio Jones* WR Alabama 6' 4" 210
52 Jeron Johnson S Boise State 5' 11" 194
84 Deunta Williams S UNC 6' 2" 205
116 Greg Romeus DE Pittsburgh 6' 6" 270
148 Mario Harvey ILB Marshall 6' 0" 245
180 Jonathan Nelson CB Oklahoma 5' 11" 180
211 Dan Dierking FB Purdue 5' 10" 186

Not a bad draft, and if Jones walks a very viable start to a draft.

I know this board loves Pollard but he is a liability in coverage, and they will need to upgrade him or his backup at the very least.

No way the Texans draft a WR in the first, unless it is a top 10 talent that slips. I dont have Jones ranked that highly yet. Deunta Williams is a late first rounder. Dont look at websites, he has fallen due to his suspension. But he is the best senior FS in my opinion, and battling with Moore (UCLA) for the top FS in the draft.

Other than that, meh. I like Johnson, but wonder if 2nd round is too high. I have not watched Boise enough to make a definite statement yet. Yes please to Romeus in the 4th, he was being talked about as a 1st/2nd in the last draft, his stock has really fallen. Harvey is a decent pick, good player with a nose for the football, but LB is not really a need. I would prefer an OL, but eh. I would pass on Nelson and Dierking, grab some other guys.

Don't we get some compensatory pick for DR? I am thinking 3rd rounder? How about a 7th round compensatory for Pitts?

I dont know the formula for comp. picks, but if I remember correctly, we would get around a 3rd for Dunta, but because we signed Rackers it drops to a 6th or 7th. Could be wrong though.

I evidently deleted my link explaining compensatory picks. The formula is based on how many good players you sign versus how many you lose based on round selected. As it stands I don't think we get much for DR as we also signed Wade Smith OL in addition to Rackers and both are starters.
