Unnecessary Roughness on #4 (rackers)

ROFL, love it that we played physical which set the tempo, that even Rackers felt like he had to get raise his game.

It was on the TD return that was called back for holding , I couldnt see Rackers on the play .... Will have to check the DVR later.


He was in on the play on many of his pre-season kickoffs as well .... Guess he's not your run of the mill liquored up kicker.
 
I never saw why either. When I heard "#4" I had to laugh. I'm not sure I've ever heard a kicker getting flagged for that. I also wondered if it was legit or was it Hochuli up to his old tricks.

While I'm here, I'm pretty sure grabbing a jersey and holding a guy back is a penalty, but it was never called.

That explains it. I was watching it on a tv with no sound...and next to a bunch of loud Steelers/Falcons fans.

I heard it wasn't really Rackers wearing #4 on that kickoff. I heard it was a guy who isn't supposed to be playing a few games this year. I heard he grabbed Rackers, pulled him behind the replay booth, and decided to get in a little unnecessary roughness. Just saying what I heard.....

When I heard that call I was like "Hell yeh, the Kicker is setting the tempo!!!!!!"

Maybe Pollard and Rackers hang out........
 
Some guy tried to block Rackers on that called-back TD return for the Colts, and Rack took offense. There was some pushing and shoving and maybe some fisticuffs. It happened on the Colts end of the field in the melee, on the opposite side of the field from where the runner broke free. You can catch a little of it on the broadcast.
 
there was another kickoff earlier in the game when I saw Rackers run down and get in on the tackle. It was strange because he seemed to run up past other ST players and initiate contact, even though the return man had not outrun the coverage. That struck me as odd, and very cool, that he was running down covering the play and not just hanging back as a safety valve.
 
Speaking of penalties, did Arian F. get away with grabbing the defender's facemask? I know you can put your hand on the facemask and push off, but he actually gripped his fingers around the mask and pushed and ever so slightly pulled on it?

They're usually not going to call that on the offensive guy unless he actually twists it quite a bit. Arian didn't do that.
 
I tell you one penalty that is gonna get alot of flak in the next few weeks is the one they called on McCain I think, the helmet call. Reggie Wayne caused that not the DB. Wayne, twice ducked his chin into his chest to try and draw that call. No way a DB will not come in and hit his helmet if the WR is ducking his head...

that call in general bugs me. of course their helmets hit, wayne looked down and mccain looked forward. are defenders supposed to lead with their feet? mccain made an absolutely perfect form tackle, his shoulder into wayne's chest and wrapped both arms around. i hate to human anatomy 101 the NFL, but i havent met many football players who's head grows sideways out of their ribcage. every tackle ever made leads with either an outstretched arm or the head - suprising to know, but that's how humans are built.

i cant wait for DB's to start drop-kicking folks because of the tackling restrictions.

Agreed. I hate the defenseless receiver / lead with helmet calls, because frequently it is the receiver coming down at an angle that prevents the DB from getting out of the way. And how else is a DB supposed to jar the ball loose on a tackle?

I hope they have pre-game press conferences with Neil Rackers ala Bernard Pollard. We're gonna get a reputation for the House of Pain, and it'll start with our freakin' kicker :breakdance:
 
The helmet to a defenseless WR call was crap. That was a perfect form tackle. I can completely understand protecting players in vulnerable spots but that call was bush league.
