I don't think the mention of "sack caused headaches" was something to worry about. I mean, obviously we're all worried about the Texans providing Carr with the needed protection. That goes without saying. I just think the author of this article was making a point about the pounding Carr has taken. I think if David Carr was experiencing recurring headaches from all the hits then there would be more reported about this than a mere one line blurb in a Pro Football Weekly article.

Each team has their own grading system for evaluating how they did during a game. Since the Texans had more than 100 incomplete passes last year, I guess they figure that some or maybe most incompletes are neutral plays. A sack would obviously be a negative play. So would an interception. A dropped pass would probably be a negative play. Any pass on third down that doesn't result in a first down could be a negative play. And so on.
Since each team doesn't grade every other NFL team to see how they rank, the stat is just used to compare yourself against a standard the coaches have established based on experience. You don't really care about what other teams do, you are just concerned with how you do.

in addition to the sacks and int's, numerous times last year I saw David sprinting for the sidelines and take a loss instead of casually tossing the ball out of bounds after he cleared the pocket... it would have allowed him to save more energy, frustrate the defense, turn a loss into a no gainer, not sure what his strategy was/is there.

That is something which Carr had a problem with his rookie year. Since then it has basically been eliminated. Last year, if anything, he had a problem with flirting with the intentional grounding rule by thinking he could throw his way out of any problem. The times you saw Carr reach the sidelines last year were virtually all at or past the line of scrimmage.

This has never been talked about and its all important. It also signifies that AJ is willing to for go some of his time in Florida. I applaud both young men.
In the game against Oakland Carr simply looked calm and confident. What I worry about is that the O-line protection depends on Carr's mobility at the present time. Oakland did not contain Carr's movement side to side. The real issue is what happens if a team forces Carr to remain in the pocket. Will the O-line be able to protect given our use of the zone blocking scheme. Will the other team get pressure up the middle and kill David. For every reaction, there is an equal and opposite reaction - or counter. Will we adjust accordingly. I certainly hope so and I hope this is the season we are all looking forward to.
Don't forget about Mathis I still think he will be a big surprise. I must admit Corey has looked a lot better than I though he would which is a plus. Its going to be hard to decide who we keep at the WR spots.
Strangely our defense looks like it might be our weakest link at this point, but then again what are they not showing, if anything. All of you have your own feelings and observations, but time will tell what is really the true picture.

i like to be a team flying under the radar, we will suprise alot of people this season. And i feel we have some pretty solid O and D depth this season, we have matched up well with opposing teams back ups.
Good article. If NFL players could get Purple Hearts, etc... DC would look like Audie Murphy. I would really like to see Palmer open up his offense this year. "Streamlined" is just a euphamism for "took a lot of stuff out". Maybe(PLEASE NO HATE MAIL) Victor Riley will give DC that extra time to make that other read he needs to make. Or maybe McKinney will be able to put it in drive instead of reverse now and then.

I think I can kind of agree with DocBar because Riley seems to be doing alright. No, he is not the long term solution, that is quite obvious, but I expected Carr on his back every play with him in there. He has gotten slightly better and I think maybe we can give him a chance. He moved positions and is a pretty powerful run blocker. Hopefully he can band aid just long enough to get us through one more season.
