2011 Mock Draft by Position.

I like Badboy's mock draft thread but I think many of us, myself included, aren't familiar with the 2011 crop of prospects yet. So I'd like to propose a 2011 mock draft by position and not individual players. I'd like to see your mock draft by position, not what you think the Texans will do, and reasons for each selection.

1. OG/C-this is my highest priority and has been for a couple years, unfortunately the Texans don't agree. If we'd have picked a good OG in the 3rd round 3 yrs. ago instead of taking a flier on a small school CB like Molden, who hasn't done anything, then we'd have a much better O-line by now and wouldn't be forced to start Studdard. Our O-line needs an upgrade at both of these positions and I wouldn't be opposed to selecting a RT and moving Winston inside to OG. Think of the possibilities for our offense if we had a dominant O-line like the Jets have.

2. FS-Wilson is in the 3rd year of a 4 yr. contract and has health issues. Barber has no business being in the NFL and Nolan might become a decent backup but FS needs an upgrade. Think how much better our secondary could be with an elite FS manning centerfield and how much better that would make our CB's. With an elite FS our CB's would be free to take more chances.

3. DT-Okoye has had plenty of time to grow and mature so his age isn't an excuse any more, this should be a bubble year for him he needs to step up and justify that 1st round pick or be replaced. Amobi, the bust tag is hanging largely over your head. I think Mitchell is undersized and might become a good backup/rotational player but we need some studs at DT. Also Cody and Robinson positions could use an upgrade.

4. CB-You can never have to many good CB's. If Jackson turns out to be great we could still use another good quality CB to upgrade our depth. This would make Bennett and Molden expendable.

5. QB-I was hoping that Orlavsky would have stepped up by now but he hasn't so backup QB is a need.

6. OT-An elite RT would free us up to move Winston inside or a good one could be a utility O-lineman adding depth across the entire O-line.

7. TE-Our 6th and 7th string TE positions need to be upgraded, we could use some better depth.

Let's see your 2011 positional draft and reasons. Now it's time to learn the players and find some good ones to fill the positions.

Good thread. Here are my original picks and then today's commentary;
1st: Chris O'Dowd Center
2nd: Blake Gideon FS
3rd: Nathan Enderle QB
4th: Chykie Brown CB
5th:Chris Prosinski SS/FS
6th: Zach Heberer OG
7th: Ben Jacobs ILB

Today (August 24th) thoughts.
1st: center, I've seen nothing so far to change my mind Wolf and I agree something has to be done. FA Smith has been a disappointment and although Shelley Smith looked good last Sat against N.O. he played only about 10 snaps. If O'Dowd can't beat out Myers he should take a OG spot.
2nd: Despite my comment on my mock about Nolan, the kid is about to make me eat my words which I will do gladly. You don't have to have a superstar @ either safety. A healthy Wilson and a inspired Troy Nolan could change this high pick. As I've said on another thread, if Ryan Mallett drops to our pick in first, I think I have to take him. Orslovsky look much better vs Saints but I still doubt him. Schaub & Mallett in two years could give NFL best QB set. So--maybe Mallett then a OG/C in 2nd.
3rd:Qb is still on here unless Mallett is our pick. Then I'd probably shake up my choices and go best LT available. Our Oline disappointed me greatly against N.O.

4-7 probably stay the same.

gotta throw RB in there somewhere? even with Tate returning next year quality depth is a concern.

I wouldn't mind a center/og in first who could crack this bunch like a Stefen Wisniewski, Penn State but lately seems like as a unit the more they play together the better they are getting. Shelly Smith has flashed starting potential but is 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart. I would guess they plug in another late rd. pick to compete.

So does that move FS position to the first rd.? only for the right player, & its been too frustrating year after year to forecast that player when the Texans select, does anyone expect a talent like Deunta Williams to still be on the board for the Texans? I do think a mid rd. pick would be warrented, Jaiquawn Jarret, Temple & Jeron Johnson seem like fine prospects to me & good value mid 3rd to 4th rounds.

DT is where the Texans still need to address & my favorite player is Stephen Paea, Oregon State his stock will rise however not sure if he will be in reach or not? so 3rd rd. again possibly higher.

CB always, 4th rd. or higher. need to really focus on speed & agility to adjust for the ball.

QB may be higher than expected & this is a rich class to ponder, again when it comes to these players & having needs in all these areas should it not be deceided by bpa?

OT may have to be higher than the 6th rd. to have any kind of chance, there is always that converting TE over to LT thing, what about Anthony Hill? He has the size 6-5 only 270 but could add on 15-20 pounds. When healthy his strength is his blocking (which is surely why they drafted him) maybe the coaches can convert him over to LT?

Also feel another LB may be in order, SAM or WILL. I like Sharpton @ MLB so he can back-up Demeco but who do we have to back-up Diles & Cushing? I think we're about to find out.

In no particular order just going off your list & selecting bpa each rd. who fills these needs.

I have to throw a RB in there after last night's game against TB. I think your post jinxed them BL. LOL! I was hoping Foster, SLaton and J.Johnson would be our RB corps. I'm not a big fan of Chris Henry & last night confirmed for me he should not be on this team. His attempts to block were almost hilarious; if, that is, he chose the correct guy to block. JJ's sprained toe hopefull will not be too bad. He looked pretty good to me. If JJ is on roster it will be the first time in my memory that two UDFA backs are on the roster of any NFL team.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that Troy Nolan will be our starting FS by the end of the year and we will be happy with him.

I am taking FS off the early round needs.

I have the needs as OC, RB, TE, TE, TE, space eating DT, And then BPA, cause we finally appear to be at a point where the 2nd round guy and the possible the 1st round guy will be drafted as depth.

For that reason, I hate hearing the talk that if we do not make the playoffs that we blow up the front office. BS they have done a solid job. This team is positioned to start making a solid run at being elite.

BTW is was joking about the TEs.
