I've heard he's got all the tools and knows what to do... he just doesn't do it when he needs to.

I also think we're seeing a shift in the types of DBs we want from Hokes guys (who were bigger) to Gibbs' guys (who are smaller and faster).

True, I thought about that last night during the game, It seems as if we're going smaller/faster.
 
I'm glad Bennett is gone, wish it would have happened last year. I wish it would have worked out for Egboh, I liked him as a prospect coming out of college but don't know that he's done anything since being signed as an UDFA.
 
I'd bet anything Bennett ends up with the Lions. Schwartz was in Tennessee when FB had his run as a starter his rookie year and Detroit has a horrible CB situation.

wasnt there a rumour that personal problems were a big cause of his downfall after his rookie year? did it ever come out what those were?

Fred can play but I think he might need to play safety. He's been in the doghouse for 2 years now and it's really cool for the coaches to cut him early so he can have a chance at being picked up...and I think he can play in this league. I wouldn't be surprised for him to go home with Dunta and play for the Falcons....he will be picked up.
 
I liked Bennett kinda the same way that I liked Faggins. He was a good stop gap player untill we found better talent, but I knew eventually both would be replaced if we were to ever become good.

And it seems like only yesterday I was out at training camp with Vinny talking with him about how the Texans were finally getting some defensive backs with "NFL type bodies" on them. Well, the times they are a changing I guess. Bennett though is going away because he sucked a little too much a little too long. Can't wait forever for him to put it all together.

I don't care as long as they can get the job done. It's just something I find funny as the coaches come and go their differing ideas result in different kinds of players.
 
ouch. The Texans have been pretty solid in the 4th rounds but this is a failed project. I agree with whoever thinks he needs to move to safety but I think this is probably the writing on the wall for Bennett's career. Maybe he'll catch on some other team, maybe not.

He will most assuredly catch on with another team. Whether or not he does anything with it, I don't know.
 
iam sure some team will pick him up he still a solid player maybe a new scene will help him shine
 
Bennett is very good with tracking the ball in the air. Sometimes he overthinks
and loses control of his body position.

He's better than a marginal NFL corner, in my opinion.
 
no doubt he'll find a way on another team. Maybe different coaching can turn his career around and he can be a solid DB again, but at the least he'll be a solid ST contributor somewhere.
 
Man, I just can't shake the visions of him being 15 yards off his guy in man-to-man coverage. That's not in any way, shape or form "coverage". Flash in the pan with nice athletic ability, that's all he was. Probably all he will be. I'm not wishing for failure for him, just don't think success is around the corner....
 
Most of us here had high hopes on him after his rookie season and did gave us one solid year and I thank Fred for that. Anyway, good luck and wish him nothing but best.
 
I don't see how moving Bennett to safety would be a good move or beneficial to him....

Fred Bennett was ALWAYS a horrible tackler and that was the knock on him coming out of school. His tackling is one of the reasons why he was put on the bench.

I see this alot now on the web and can't help but wonder, is this a statement or a question? Are you asking him if he wished it could have worked out better or stating that you wished he would have worked out better?

I am assuming it's a statement with a misplaced question mark but I see this here, on facebook, etc. so IDK.
