Texans-Cowboys: 'Lone Star Shootout' pregame special airs Saturday

Wolf

100% Texan
HOUSTON -- Before the Texans and Cowboys take the field at Reliant Stadium Saturday night, KHOU will get your blood pumping with a pre-game show on the rivalry between H-Town and Big D.

During the hour-long "Lone Star Shootout" at 6 p.m., we’ll hear from fans, players, mayors and more.

And we’ll look back on this tale of two cities, a storied rivalry that began long before Matt Schaub and Tony Romo were even born.

The Cowboys may have been "America’s Team" during the Tom Landry era, but Bum Phillips and his "Luv Ya Blue" boys made sure the Oilers were Houston’s team.

Some angry Houston fans turned to the Cowboys when the Oilers packed up and headed to Tennessee in 1997. Others adopted the Tennessee Titans as their favorite team. But most just waited.

The Houston Texans didn’t waste any time winning the hearts of those football-hungry Houstonians. During their inaugural season opener in 2002, they stunned the Cowboys 19-10 before a sold-out crowd at Reliant. The Texans were the first NFL team in 41 years to win their expansion debut. And a new rivalry was born.

Beginning Saturday at 6 p.m., Channel 11 will be live from "Tailgate Central" at Reliant Stadium

mods I meant to put this in the tailgate section :thud:

There is no rivalry between the Cowboys and the Texans, and there was no rivalry between the Oilers and the Cowboys.

I really don't care about the Cowboy's game. I want to win it of course, but the Indianapolis game is far more important, because they are a division rival.

Anything Dallas vs Houston will have a Texas style rivalry especially football.

If anyone knows if this will be on the internet or how I could watch it from LA let me know please!!!

It's gonna be nationally televised on CBS.
I even get to watch it in real time here in Jersey.

The special? I don't know but I would like to see it as well. In Austin I'm sure ther will be plenty of coverage but all of it from a Cowboys perspective.

Ya I was talking about the pre-game, I am assuming that fox sports wouldn't put it on the website or anything so I guess I just have no way of watching it :(

Why would they do this before the preseason game and not the reg season game? The preseason game is fluff, who cares who wins! I really don't care, and that's the truth. BUT, come Sept 26th you betcha butt I care!! Geeeezzz, the media continues to suck, as usual!! Try to make something out of nothing. JMO!

I agree with you Grandma!!! This game really doesn't matter - it is pre-season... it would have been better to broadcast this special before the regular season game.

There is no rivalry because most Cowboy fans are bandwagoners from parts nowhere near Dallas, so the whole Houston/Dallas thing really doesn't matter to them.

We have been over this and this is such a b.s. statement. It's doesn't matter to Cowboy fans because the Texans and Cowboys never play each other and the Cowboys true rivalries are in their own division and always have been.

It's not b.s., true the Cowboys rivals are mainly from the NFC East, but if you think two Texas teams going at it does not have some form of rivalry intermixed with it your wrong. With the amount of pride the state of Texas has, as well as it's citizens, with state bragging rights on the line that's what you get.

Is there a San Fran/Oakland/San Diego rivalry?

Miami/Jacksonville/Tampa Bay rivalry?

I'm like you, there ain't no Dallas/Houston rivalry. The people in Houston hate the people in Dallas. The people in Dallas don't know the people in Houston exist.

From everything I've heard (from friends of mine in the Raider Nation), there is a San Fran/Oakland rivalry.

And there is an Oakland/San Diego rivalry but it's because they're in the same division.

Don't know about the Florida teams.

Must agree with my adopted grandma here. Preseason doesn't mean Shhht.
Beat these A-holes when it counts.

It's going to be extremely frustrating if we lose to them in the regular season now.

If we had lost to them, they'd be crowing about how bad we suck. But since we beat them in the preseason, it doesn't matter because it's preseason... just wait till it counts.

Now, if we lose the game that counts, they'll just be talking that much more smack. We need to beat these guys when it counts.

BTW, I just was checking on a Dallas site to see what people were saying and some of the people were pissed off because apparently PRIOR to the game Phillips and Romo had said that they were going to definitely game plan for this game and then afterwards, changed their tune to how they didn't game plan for it.

JMO, but I still don't see the rivalry, and most of the more enlightened Cowboys I've met seem to feel the same way. Now, within the division, more is at stake, so yeah we can stir the pot.

I recognize the Texans as having a good team, and on the 26th the game could go either way. A loss for us added to any other losses could have a serious affect on us going into the playoffs. The schedule is brutal, and every win counts, big time. Heck, at this point I don't even feel comfortable that the Lions and Jaguars will be easy wins.

Over that last six years the Texans have won every game at home and so have the Cowboys. After those wins in Dallas, I don't recall any threads recapping or gloating about the results.

Nothing for me to gloat about. Neither one of the teams I like have sniffed the SB for any number of years. Saints fans can gloat. They have that right.

Your right about there not being a rivalry between the two teams. I just moved back to Houston after living in Dallas and central Texas for the last 10 years and I have never heard anyone talk about the Texans being any kind of rival. I think this rivalry is something that Texans fans created and Dallas fans don't even know about. Preseason games are not a way to create a rivalry and to be honest I consider the Titans to be the Texans rival. I can't believe who many Texan fans called in to all the different radio stations this week and acted like this game was UT v OU or A&M v UT.

I don't know about rivalry .. (esp when we play each other in preseason and not reg season every year)

BUT, with that said.. I have caught hell for being a Texans fan and even an Oiler fan over the years by Cowboy fans. And the ones that do the talking like to brag

I actually like the Cowboys when they aren't playing the Texans .. I look at it as a big brother-little brother kind of thing but some fans are just like the video , it is one or the other

I certainly don't see the cowpies as a rival in that sense. Still want to beat the crap out of em every time we play though.

I don't doubt your experience because I have one similar. Since we weren't in the same division, initially I thought everything would be quite cozy. Me for you, you for me, oh how happy we will be. Then first tailgate out, there's a Texans fan ripping a Cowboys doll and jersey apart and placing them into a campfire. I was shocked, yet composed. I won't even relive the rude awakening at the first visit to Texas Stadium. Talking about deer in headlights experience, the 45 trip to Dallas was certainly one to remember, literally.

I think that's human nature to want to win. OBTW, are those Cougars in your avitar?

****ing cocky, arrogant 'gurls fans. I ran into no less than 3 Cowpuke "likes to fight" guy!! Punks!!!

As is usually the case, these "Die Hard" fans couldn't even name half their starters!!!

Tell me it isn't so! They couldn't even come up with household names such as Romo, Witten, Jones, Barber, Colombo, Gurode, Barber, Williams, Bryant, Ware, Newman, Austin, AOA? You've got to be kidding.

Nope... Especially the one punk (likes to fight guy) that forgot to take the price tag off of his brand new jersey. I mean it was a Romo jersey, so he got that one right. Didn't know who or what a "Dez Bryant" was....

ASSHAT!!

Sure that wasn't a former Texans fan that jumped ship for some unknown reason and perhaps when Bush or Young weren't drafted? Even our worst should come up with six. j/k

I figured someone like what bill was saying would be wearing a Carr #8 Cowboys jersey :gun:

Come on now I expected you to know more about the NFL and it's teams.

SD/Oakland have a huge rivalry!!!

What kind of ignorant statement is this "the people in Dallas don't know people in Houston exist"!?

I don't even know where to begin with that one, stop acting like cowboys fans do not know/care who the Texans are.

They do. No question about it. It might not be a hated rivalry but it is a rivalry none the less like I said anytime it's Texas vs Texas in the NFL than it is going to be a big deal.
