Chris Myers gets to play a "small" NT this Saturday in Reliant

Just like the Texans have one great football player in Andre Johnson, the Cowboys have one great player in Demarcus Ware, OLB and edge-rusher-supreme in their 3-4 defense.
But as entertaining as Ware is, the guy who I think is the most intriguing is the unusually smallish 300 lb (give or take) nose-tackle, Jay Ratliff.
So instead of giving away some 50 pounds against a huge 3-4 nose like Kris Jenkins, Myers gets to play head-up against a guy who is MOL his own size, albeit very quick compared to the big fellows.
Any thoughts on how the Myers-Ratliff match-up plays out ?

Ratliff will get the best of Myers if given a heads-up chance, but that is not necessarily a given if the line is performing well as a unit.

Texans OL seems to get owned by 3-4 fronts so I'm sure plenty of attention will be on the OL already. Maybe we'll see a lot of 2 TE sets just to put some bulk up front or a lot of screen passes to counter Ware/aggressive blitzing. At any rate it sure would be nice to see the running game pick up and legitimize Foster/Interior OL/Dennison before the season gets under way.

Ratliff is not a "small" NT. Don't judge a NT (or any football player for that matter) by their weight. Have you seen Ratliff's base? He's huge from waist down and thats where NTs get their power from, the legs and butt, not the fat upper body. DTs are taught to play as low as possible not high, so the base is far more important than the upper body. Ratliff has been one of the most dominant NTs in the game for a few years now and by no means does his 300 pound weight make him more "on par" with Myers. Ratliff has brute strength and pushes centers on their back just as good as any of the gargantuan NTs like Jenkins or Ngata.

Don't care that he's playing against a small NT this week. Myers can't handle the larger NT in the league and many of the best defenses have larger NT. If we want to have a playoff team, Myers has got to take on all comers, big or small.

since the Texans play the Cowgirls in the regular season why not experiment a little & test Ratliff against 2nd & 3rd string center possiblities? go ahead & see in first series how Myers measures up then give White/Smith/Brisiel a shot. I would love to be able & rate the Texans center situation based off an excellent match-up opportunity that's what preseason should be all about :)
