Why yet still we have 0 pass rush.. and our blitz packages look like a high school blitz.. A lot of money/time/coaching has been spent and it's pitiful.. I don't think we even touched/knocked down the QB in the 1st half.

I hate to use this excuse but I think we're running a "vanilla" defense right now. At least thats what I tell myself to help me sleep better.
 
I was watching the game and it looked like we almost got to the QB a few times in the first half.

Mario almost has a sack but Brees gets it away
We almost have another one but Brees somehow makes a falling, sidearmed rocket
Barwin almost gets a sack but Daniels throws it away

Probably a few more
 
The pass rush was about the same as last week. This game just showed how a different quarterback can help out the OL. Brees is probably the 2nd best QB (Peyton being the 1st) at sensing pressure and narrowly escaping a sack.

That matrix-esque falling sidearm td pass was a thing of beauty... lets just say Matt Leinart would've been sacked on that play to put it nicely.
 
Wasn't there a thread last week about how the defensive scheme was looking more exotic than ever before?

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

When have the Texans ever shown they are NOT what they are in
preseason? "Vanilla Preseason Defense" is something the Eagles,
Cowboys, and even the Colts can say, because they kick ass
on opening day.

Our squad? Our squad beats up on bad teams, good teams
who rest their starters, and competes with teams just as
mediocre as they are.

Will they start 5-7 for the FOURTH year in a row? We shall see...
 
The defense didn't look right. They haven't looked this way since the beginning of last season. The Saints' O-line is one of the best in the league, but we shouldn't have allowed them to run all over us. We can shut down Cedric Benson, but we can't shut down Reggie Bush?

Yeah, there was something different about the D last night. They came out really flat. I know that is cliche' but it really was as if they were moving at a different speed...almost tired looking.

Considering Jared Allen had a field day last year against this team and that the vikings would have won if they hadn't turned the ball over 5 times.. I can't imagine that the saints OL is that good.. they were 27th in the league in rushing last year..

The first team defense made me feel sick yesterday... only bright spot being that Kareem Jackson seemed to play well.
 
The team looked flat to me before they even took the field...Just looking at their body language, they didn't have the same confidence they had last week.
 
Coach Gary Kubiak wasn't happy with Tuesday's practice. There was one more session scheduled before the Texans left in the afternoon for New Orleans, where they will practice against the Saints three times before Saturday night's game at the Superdome.

"Not very good," Kubiak said . "They were pretty lazy this morning.

Hopefully, they're ready to get there (New Orleans) and work, but it was not one of our better practices."

Kubiak didn't want to hear any excuses. On Monday night, the team had its annual bowling competition.

"It's never acceptable," Kubiak said about a bad practice. "We went out and had a good time as a team, but we have to come back and go to work the next morning. We didn't work very good this morning."

They (The Saints) were first in overall offense, 6th in rushing (Can't figure where you got 27th), 4th in passing, and 4th in sacks given up during the '09 regular season. Their O-line is unquestionably one of the best in the NFL.

Still doesn't mean we didn't suck!

Look at the Texans record in the 4 yrs under Kubes.

Cant rep you but wish I could.
 
Same reason we rarely get pressure on Peyton Manning. The Saints OL is one of the best in the NFL in pass protection for years now. Ever since Sean Payton took over in 2006, the Saints have ranked in the top 4 in fewest sacks allowed in all 4 seasons.
 
This NOLA guard combo of Evans & Nicks must be as good as advertised
if they can make Reggie Bush look like he's running hard up the middle ?

They are just saving all their secret blitz packages for the regular season. I'm sure they will revolutionize the way defense packages are run once the season starts!

True. They seemed to be in the right position to stop the run 99% of the time but just let guys wall through their arms. I'd rather have seen them out of position than failing at basic fundamental football. They're like a WR that runs great routes but has hands of stone. Doing one means nothing if you suck at the other.
 
Sorry defensive schemes with very good athletes and a defensive coordinator who is learning on the job. Gary Kubiak should have gone with the defensive coordinator in New Orleans when we had a chance to get him, Frank Bushs 4-3 under sucks.
 
Frank Bush can draw whatever kind of play he wants, it's never going to work with only 9 guys against 11.

I say this because we don't have a legitimate option at either DT and I don't consider ASmith moving over for passing downs as an option.
 
I would say because of Bill Kollar. One of the things alot of people bring up is how long Kollars been around and how respected he is. I went and looked at his previous jobs and I'm sorry to say, but he never coached a really dominating line. None of his lines were ever really stout against the run. He favors smaller quicker linemen. What I've seen over his stint here is lack of technique. Last night what I saw from our D-line was an inability to disengage. Once the O-line got their hands on them I just didn't see any ability to disengage.

It really pisses me off, because this off-season the Giants fired a d-line coach that had coached a really solid unit and the organization didn't even blink or consider bringing the guy in.

TK, what are you talking about? These same DTs shut the run down last season beginning 4th game. I've been a proponent of getting a huge DT but had to shut up as Bush used this same D to make me look silly. I think most, maybe you included are focusing mainly on Okoye not getting to the QB as he was drafted to do. But getting to the QB was not identified last two seasons as a high priority, stopping the run was, and they did that. I am hopeful what we saw was an abberration. I did not see players out of position which indicates they were following the game plan. The first guys were missing tackles or not hitting solidly and the next guys were saying "uh oh I did not expect to have to tackle this guy. Guess I better try." Bush and his coaches will insist on getting hats on the ball and we should see a much better effort next weekend.

And I thought you wanted the DL to tie up the blockers to free the LB's to make plays. Our LB's did not make many... piss poor tackling all around.
