When did Walker get hurt?

It seems to be a nagging injury that has been going on since the start of training camp. But hey, we have a solid line when he goes down, we still have TJ, Payne, Robaire and Ioane. It's a great time to evaluate TJ better. He's gonna go up against some heavy beef.

Don't forget Jerry Deloach, who has turned himself into a pretty decent player, especially against the run.

Gary Walker is hurt during training camp?????? SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!!!! I just don't believe it!!!! At least he isn't a walking train wreck like TO. I'm sure he'll be healthy and collecting game checks by Sept. 11.

Maybe this is just the teams way of resting him?
I wish I could get rested at that rate. Atheletes always make such a big deal over practice and training. Maybe every profesional athelete should undergo Basic Training Army or Marine Corps style then they could sit back, do the time and keep their whining little voices quiet. Too many people work WAY TOO hard for mere pittances to listen to a bunch of primadonna's gripe about 2-a-days. Or 1-a-days. 0r 1/2-a-days.

Walker has whined for several years about his dislike of TC. I'm not complaining, just making fun. If he's at full tilt from Sept. 11( :patriot ) til the end of our season, then more power to him. It is just a known fact that Walker dislikes the rigors of training camp.

I don't disagree with you, but in his defense (pun intended) do you think any veteran player actually likes training camp? Seems like it's mostly for the younger guys.

But yeah, TC is part of what these guys get paid LOT'S of money to go through.

In the words of someone MUCH smarter than me:" Ya play like ya practice".
Regardless of ability, name. reputation, stats, etc... players need to go thru the basics again and again. If NFL coaches thought differently, then TC would be strictly for rookies and players on the bubble. How can you build continuity, comradry and team work if "elite" players sit out? Besides, it's 2 weeks a year of pure hell that helps players make millions in $$ afterwards. I think they should take it as seriously as soldiers training to go to war and not complain. I doubt half of NFL players could make it thru basic training.

Earl Campbell was a lousy practice player.

Walker has had a hammy problem for the last 2 years. He missed a lot of regular season games due to this. I think he must have worked out in the off season In order to lose all that weight so he should be fine. Walker might not be playing or practicing but he is in the middle of all "comradary" related events. He is looked up to by all the defensive rookies and veterans. Funny how its taboo for a player to knock the coaches when this message board is full of it. Only a leader can express his opinion with confidence.

Every player is going to wine about training camp. Look at the camp confidential on every Texan player and they also voice their displeasure with training camp.

I just don't know why Walker is singled out so often on this board, yet his play in last pre-season game comes un-noticed.

I agree but it shouldn't be at the expense of having an integral player reaggravate a nagging injury that could cause him to lose time. That would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Because he's the highest paid player on the defense and it goes with the territory. It's not his fault that the Texans panicked last year and signed him to that cap killer deal, but with high pay comes high expectations and he hasn't been special since '02. Hopefully he can return to that form this year.

Personally, I think Walker will only be with us for 1-2 more years, even with the new contract. Injuries are starting to be more and more frequent (most players who are getting older have to deal with it, so its no surprise there), and I feel they are moving the team more toward a younger, faster style defense. I will be shocked if in the third or fourth round this year of the draft, they dont start drafting/grooming his replacement.

And that's a problem since his contract runs through '09 and his annual cap proration is something like $1.8. If he plays through '06 and then is cut, that's $5.4 in dead money the Texans will have to carry. Out of all the contracts the Texans have done, that one's the worst.

If Walker has a good year they should trade him in the off season. I sure hope the Wong and DD contracts work out too. It seems most the other big contracts were no brainers. Except Boselli.

Walker was held back from practice because of back spasms. When did ESPN ever got any thing right about the Texans. They still think Benny J is going to be our TE this year. You people try to listen to Capers practice report and not to some ESPN guy who probably think the Texans are in San Antonio. All the Injuries that are listed are miner and we are just trying to keep everybody healthy for the opener with the Bills. I Bar.. you need to check other camps and see that the other teams are having the same problems if not worst. This is not a unique thing just for the Texans.
